What do you miss most?
I thought it might be fun to let everyone know what kind of food or drink we miss the most since beginning our new lives.
Beer: Being the good old Canadian boy that I am, I miss my beer. Hockey just ain't the same without my precious beer. I have one or two beers every couple of weeks for a treat. I can't remember the last time I had one though. :(
Olive oil: I miss the quantity of olive oil that I used to use . I do use it for cooking and salads but now I have to measure the stupid stuff since I've realized how many calories there is in it. Stupid oil! :)

It's hard to portion any of these foods for me. It's all or nothing. :(

Oh good lord, yes, to the chocolate covered halvah. I don't even need the chocolate. Just give me a big, fat chunk of halvah and I will be one happy girl.
Milkshakes. Mashed potatoes. A good deal of fried foods.
I miss a lot, because I do deprive myself, because I'm a failure at portion control. I'm an all or nothing kind of gal, and I can't limit myself to one bite. Because once I've taken the first bite, the next 50 come so easily.

I'm the same way, Luna. I've always had portion control problems. I used to get a huge plate of food and then my second helping would be just as big as my first. Crazy!! It's better to not eat the foods that you have a hard time controlling. For me it is pizza. I can't just have on or two pieces of pizza. It's usually 4 or 5. Oh, and beer of course. :)
Pizza with ALL the toppings!!! And being able to eat more than ONE piece!
Mexican food...I still eat it, but I'm so concerned about cals that I generally get something different than usual and have them hold the cheese and sour cream. What I miss is the good old burritto stuffed to the limit topped with cheese, sour cream and quac! Lots of quac!
Eating a whole pint of Ben & Jerry's Super Chunk Fudge in one sitting!
Basically, pizza and Italian. Sure, you can adapt for lower cal/ lower fat versions, and smaller portions, but it really is NOT the same.
I miss indulging in Chicago-style stuffed pizza. I do eat pizza from time to time; either homemade on a pita, or a small piece or two of thin crust, limited toppings. But I really miss the massive cheesy, meat loaded, double-crusted stuffed pizza.
A big plate of regular pasta, all the full fat, cheesy sauces, with all the fixings, not just the veggie ones. And I really miss a good, cheesy, beef and sausage lasangna. I had some this past weekend, and after thinking about it, it had been over a year since I had lasagna. I don't do lower cal adaptations for lasagna. I'd rather have none, than the "healthier" stuff.
Tiramasu. Had a big piece of that, too. Gosh, I'd forgotten how much I liked tiramusu. It had been about two years since I had tiramasu.
A big bowl of icecream, instead of the single scoop that fits within "moderation" parameters.
A big, thick, chocolate malt. There is no "moderation" for it, and no healthier alternatives. Anyone who thinks so is lying to themselves. I don't know how long it's been since I've had one. Years, at least. Some day I will have one again. Probably after I hit my goal weight, somewhere on vacation.
I, like others, do not deprive myself ... but what I miss most is eating whatever I want without the guilt or having to exercise like a fiend to make up for it! ARGH ... I spent 3 hours on the treadmill the other night just because I went to dinner at my BF's mom's house! I miss just being able to go there and eat what I want ... all I want ... without feeling guilty or exercising until I want to drop!!

Hey Sweet. I've always used sweetener and cream. I started having milk instead of cream and I agree that it doesn't taste as good but you get used to it. I now have an XL 2 milk (2% is what they have) and 1 sweetener. It's around 30 calories.
Yeah it definetely doesn't taste as good but I am used to it now and I still enjoy my morning Joe but I do miss the taste of cream and sugar sometimes. 30 calories doesn't sound too bad! It was the calories though and the price that I had to cut. I have been finding out just how limber my budget really is because it sure is tightly stretched raising a family and going to college, but I bet I can enjoy a lower calorie Timmy's now! ![]()

I can't really think of what to put for missed foods since I eat pretty much whatever I want, but just fit them into my daily cals. (or sometimes go over by a little bit. Ha Ha.) But, anyway..I guess I just miss eating large amounts of them without portion control. Ignorance is bliss. ![]()

the stores are full of easter candy and i want to go and buy a 4 pack of cadbury easter eggs and a big bag of startburst jelly bean and sit and eat it all in one sitting....
i did have a handful of the jelly beans the other day...SO yummy lol and i plan on having ONE cadbury easter egg on easter....but it just wont be the same ![]()
but on a regular day...the only thing i really really miss that i will not allow myself if Mt. Dew....it has been harder on me giving up my mt dew than it was for me to quit smoking years ago....oh i hope it gets easier soon!

I miss a huge glass of orange juice with breakfast. I also miss regular (not light) sliced bread and really good bakery breads.
But I know that by cutting these out of my daily diet (and only having them on special occasions when I budget them in), I have enough calories left each day for some dessert or just flexibility in general, so it's worth it.

My wife bought me one the other day for a treat. 170 calories is not too bad for an indulgence. Just have to make sure to cut elsewhere. I could eat about a million and a half of them.

oh yeah and i even have a super crazy way of eating them...i break them in half along the seam, scoop out all the goo with a spoon, eat the chocolate shell, and then eat the goo slowly off the spoon...it makes one last a lot longer and it's soooo good lol
Oh, so many! I miss sourdough bread, chocolate (though still have that sometimes), wine and beer (still have that too, but not without cringing at the calories.) And I miss eating without thinking about the calorie content, that's for sure.

Omg, I was just thinking about this! I miss a lot of things, but what I miss the most is eating as much as I want of anything and having no guilt afterwards! :P Ahahah.
Fruit. I still eat it, but I used to eat vast quantities of it because I thought it was was guilt free, almost 'negative calorie' realm foodstuff. Now I know there are at least 60 calories lurking in every apple and I have two cups of lite soup instead. Way less healthy, but more filling.

Thats about it really. I try to eat a lil bit of everything in moderation but these two I always take overboard so I try to avoid. Maybe that is why I miss these the most.
Anything fried like mozzerella sticks, fried pierogies, and fried raviolis. Tasty Cake pies, butterscotch crimpets and coffe cake. And mostly white bread.
Oh there are so many things I miss
Taco bell cheesy gordida crunch with fries supreme...mmmmm
Greek pizza (I miss the feta the most I think)
Sushi (I cant just eat this in moderation, the best place we always go to is all you can eat...
Subway pizza subs extra sauce
and all chocolate, ice cream and cheese cake
oh and beer too (also Canadian lol)
Oh well I know I have eaten enough of this for a life time already Im starting to enjoy cooking and Im saving money..win win :)
