do missed periods equal infertility later in life?
I'm 14, and started getting my period over a year ago, but then I lost weight and I haven't had a period since mid-July. I am afraid of them never starting again and I will never be able to have children. Help please!
hi-
youre 14, this site is not a doctor, u need to talk to your PARENTS and/or see a DOCTOR
I dont think so but please see your doctor if you are worried h x
I'd talk to your doctor, however, when you first start getting your periods it's perfectly normal for it to be very irregular.
My periods were very irregular for the first two years after I started. I know lots of people who've had similar situations and they've been fine. But if you lost too much weight, then it is possible that you won't regain your period until you gain more weight. I agree - the best thing to do is see a doctor. good luck :)
"The information presented on this site is not a substituition for professional healthcare advice. Always consult your doctor for questions or guidance on medical problems, and conditions. " As the disclosure states. Also, you really need to talk to your mother and doctor as medical conditons are different for everyone and the doctor can best treat you.
Good luck and God Bless
It's totally normal for a period to be irregular when you first start menstrating. A female who weighs too little or participates vigorously in sports can totally make her period stop. Have you been sexually active and possibly pregnant?
A trip to the gyno or your regular doctor -- which is really nothing to worry about -- can get you on hormones such as birth control pills and your period will usually be really regular and lighter. A lot of times you also get fewer skin flareups from acne.
BTW: A woman with a regular period can sometimes skip a month here or there and it's no big deal and usually just stress related. It's been a little too long for you probably...I'd get it checked if it doesn't start up again soon.
You should see your doctor. If you lost weight in an unhealthy way, and/or too much weight, then obviously you need to do something about that.
Ask your self why you lost the weight. e.g. Were you purposely trying to? Talk to someone before this gets out of hand. Take care.
I agree with the advice that you should see the doctor for a good check up. That is they only way to get the answer to your question. Dieting during the teen years is a tricky business, and specially when you are going through puberty. So it is probably best that you meet with a nutritionist and are supervised by a Doctor.
Now I had one friend who became belimic at 16. By 17 she stopped having periods. That continued until she beat the disease and started eating properly. She has 2 children today. But unfortanutaly she started purging again when her youngest was around 2. I am NOT saying that you have an eating disorder. But perhaps if you had not gotten proper nutrition during your dieting this might have caused you to stop having periods???? ONLY a doctor can tell you.
I had another friend who gained alot of wieght when she started her periods. Then they just suddenly stopped. It turns out she had poly cystic ovarian disease. She had always been infertile. She adopted a few children from all over the world!
So perhaps you have some disorder or a hormonal imbalance. And it may be correctable. ONLY a doctor can tell you.
So you see, the answer is different for each woman. And you may have nothing wrong with you at all. But you should seek medical attention to get the answers.
