Missing Son, Prayers Please**-- BODY FOUND--**

Quote  |  Reply

EDIT: Chirs' body was found 19 months after he went missing. It is evident that he had gone for a drive that night and went off the road in the canyon.

A virtual-memorial page was set up for Chris http://christopher-coan.virtual-memorials.com /

EDIT: Chris went missing September 3rd 2007, here is a link to his web site, please let everyone you know know about this. Thank you.

I'm crying as I'm typing, so please overlook all typos...I'm really not all here.

Our son, who turned 18 last month, has been missing now for 76 hours. He went to work Monday, left work and no one has heard from him nor seen him since. He wasn't having any problems with us, Sunday we all were together and had a great time. He wasn't having any problems with his girlfriend. He did have a bad day at work and we are guessing he went off on a drive to cool down, but we really don't know. He didn't say anything to anybody about where he was going. He was in a hurry to get to work that day and left his wallet home. So he has no money on him nor any access to money. We were able to get into his bank account today and there hasn't been any unusual activity in the last month. We have called everyone he knows and no one knows anything. His girlfriend has called everyone she can think of too.

This is so out of character for him. He has never done anything like this before.

The police are involved and doing all they can. Two different aerial searches were done today and tomorrow there is a ground search going on with volunteers and the police department. He has been listed as a missing person in all 50 states along with a description of his blazer. The police department made up fliers for us to put around town. The top of it says "Missing Person, Suspicious Circumstances".

This is so unreal. This is something that happens on TV, not in real life. The roller coaster of emotions is beyond imagination. The possibilities of what has happened to him and where he might be are endless. To the East of us is a canyon, to the West is desert hills. He could be anywhere. Not knowing anything is the worst.

My husband and our other children are hitting their limits too. Our home is crazy is an understatement. We have had lots of friends and family offer love and support. Meals have been brought in for three days. Our phones are ringing off the hook with well wishers and everyone wondering what they can do.

I'm sorry for going on and on, I just want to cover all the bases, but I'm sure I've missed some things.

Prayers are definitely welcome.

Mostly I'm still in shock. I'm not sure I'll be back on the site for a while. I will post as soon as we know anything.

Please everyone take care, and go hug your kids...

I tried uploading the flier but it didn't happen, I'm not sure why.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It does help to know that people care.

EDIT: I took a picture of the flier and added it to my pictures

Still praying for you all.
Me too, going to bed and my heart is heavy thinking of you and your family. Please know that you have enormous support here, please let us know if we can do anything at all.
God be with you and your family, and Chris!  I will continue to pray.  I have an 18 year old son, too, and I can not even imagine the heartache you're feeling.
I'm so sorry to hear this.    I pray that your son is safe and you will be with him soon.  I have 3 little girls and I just cannot begin to imagine how much you are hurting right now.  Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Hmm, well i found out it seems he is involved with drugs (pot at least, perhaps acid). But i guess thats common now? Not sure if you were aware or not... (though, that would be something to look into, if he was having a bad day at work....drugs might be the first place he would go)

Then, have you tried checking with his friends in texas? It seems he knows quite a few people from there (perhaps went down to do something with them, but the wallet thing seems strange). Though, he doesnt really need his wallet in a couple possible sittuations...so, you might try checking the train stations and airport for his car.

Other then that, couldnt really find much ><
I hope that you know this as fact lorik.  At a time like this the parents are already distraught.  Either way, the family is worried ya know......might have been better to email that than post it if you dont know it for a fact or just hear say.

Btw, not trying to attack you or anything its just that I really feel for anyone in this situation :(.  When things like this happen you can hear all sorts of rumors that might not be completely true and it is disheartening to the people who love that person.  I see how you were trying to be helpful in giving suggestions though. :)
Im not too sure about fact (i dont know him personally), but surrounding him are lots of refrences with drugs (and he seems to have an interest in the 60s and their culture). Thats why it seems he is involved in such things (just seems, could be mistaken... but still a clue that could lead to where he is).

His friends in texas is a fact, he knows a handful (maybe more) of men in texas his age. Which is why it might be possible he went there... he doesnt have his wallet, and low on gas...so it would reason to believe his car might be found at a train or plane parking lot (and if it is, you have a clue as to where he might have gone).

They seem to have already talked to his girlfriend Sasha, and she seems to be as clueless as they are as to where he might have gone (which is strange, because he and his girlfriend seem fairly close).

So... they already searched for his car by plane (turned up nothing). He "might" have gone offroading with his car and had something happen, but again, the searches arent turning up anything...and if he went offroading, wouldnt he take a friend or two? So, if he AND the car are missing, its most likely (though, not the only explanation) that he took it somewhere (again, the plane or train station, this would be something good to check out).

Yup, they are worried, but its best to think about all the possibilities (no matter how much they dont want to think their son might have been doing things he shouldnt have been...) and start striking them out. A wide range of things could have happened, he could have been planning this for a while (and if thats so, there should be a trail left)... or he could have had a sudden accident (in which case, you can find out close to where he was last).

There is also another area they should consider looking into. Does he have a cell phone? You can track where people are by the calls to their cellphone (or made by their cellphone). You might be able to figure out who he was talking to last (and where)....so contacting the phone company is a good idea (if he has a cellphone).

Then the money issue, does he have a private bank account? Check with the bank and see if he set one up you dont know about (and might have been slowly stashing money into it). That would solve the issue of the no wallet (and it would make it more clear that it wasnt an accident that happened, which should be some relief).

BTW, what happened at subway that made him upset? The subject or sittuation surrounding it might be another clue.
Mom said he did have a cell phone. Praying for family. I have 2 sons and would be out of my mind. I don't know where they are from but sounds like a good idea to check parking lots and such encase he went with a friend.
lorik, how do you know so much about this boy? Do you live in the area he does?
I agree, explore every avenue. I would hope the police are already helping them do this.
Mom already stated he did not have a cell phone. That would have been a big help I am sure!
loriklorik, you've said some silly things on these forums before, but now you have outdone yourself. My 13-year-old has better sense! And I hate to break it to you, but not everyone in the 60s was doing drugs.

shanfood, I've been thinking about you and your family all weekend. I hope you get some good news soon.
Actually, lorik has done the same thing I have done, and I have no idea who lorik is, nor have I read any of his previous posts. I'm a geographer, and an Internet information sleuth. I found Chris Coan's myspace page right away and read every single post he's made to friends with non-private pages. I also read all the details I could find on all the friends he had - especially those in his top 8. If you go to his Myspace page, you'll see that lorik's 60's impression is correct. As a geographer, the first thing I did was look for any spatial patterns in the list of geographic locations he has linked to him through the Myspace comments he's left and received. This is all part of profiling, and the FBI is currently doing this now.

Many of Chris' comments he's left for friends reference pot use. One of his top 8 makes a comment that indicates to me that he is a drug dealer. (the friend, not Chris) His heros are Malcom X and Martin Luther King. Here's what he's read, and this is right from his Myspace page:

I like to read about the counter-culture of the sixties and about the Vietnam war, I also like reading about America and how shitty it is. these are most of the books i have read over the years. The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fight Club, The Fountianhead, Nam, We Were Soldiers Once....and Young, Platoon, The Hobbit, Living With the Dead, Acid Dreams: A Complete Social History of LSD The CIA the 60's and Beyond, Shpere, Regeneration, Inside Out, Alice in Wonderland, The Beatles: Anthology, Meditation for Beginers, Be Free Where You Are, all quiet on the western front, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, On the Bus, The Doors of Perception,
http://www.myspace.com/fearandloathinginlasve gas

He has friends all over the place, of which any one of them he could have went to see. I sent a private PM to shanfood with links to Chris' Myspace page, his girlfriends page, and one of his friends that he's had an interesting correspondance with over the last 6 weeks (in which he indicated his interest in joining the Army.)

I've been watching this thread every day, and I really want this kid to be found. It's just heart breaking. I watch his myspace page for any clues, and I watch his girlfriends page too - I also check their mutual friends pages as well to see if there is even the slightest clue to where Chris may be.

I've never met any of them - not even Shannon, but she was a weight loss challenge buddy of mine a couple months ago and her heart felt pleas for help really got to me.
I see there is a comment there from the 10th about him moving and although this scenario is so worrisome, I personally would get hope from that.  Im not suggesting its logical for someone to drop everything and not be heard from but it wouldnt be the first time a teen did this either.

My heart weighs heavy with you daily Shannon.  I know there are parents here who've dealt with the struggles of their children with drugs as well as the rest knowing there but for the luck of circumstance go our own children.

I realize there are professionals involved and that people here are trying to be helpful with their suggestions.  We have different ways of stating our concern but I can feel that strong support here for you son and your family.  I wish you strength through this and Chris' quick safe return.
He has friends all over the place, of which any one of them he could have went to see.

Yup, but he has 3 or 4 of his top friends from texas (which is why it seemed like that would be a first place he might think of going, to those he has closest relations with).

And I hate to break it to you, but not everyone in the 60s was doing drugs.

Your right, not everyone was.... but when an 18 year old boy is very interested in it, along with such huge amounts of drug refrences around him.... well... im guessing his interest was more then academic :P

lorik, how do you know so much about this boy? Do you live in the area he does?

Everyone leaves a trail...if they mention their real name (even just once). Then from that, you can find out different chat-handles they use (most people use the same one a lot, like i use Lorik pretty much anywhere i go...so if in one of those places i told my real name, someone could track me all across the internet and see everything i have been active in).

Then, once you find private accounts (myspace, yahoo, or anything else)...you can get into the accounts and see what they have been doing more closely (private messages and things like that).

So, the lesson is.... be paranoid and dont use your real name if you plan to do something! (or at least dont talk about it on the internet!) You can also be really careful with split internet identities, totally apart from eachother (i do this), which keeps people from being able to link your activities together.
~this was typed before a bunch of other posts, I haven't read yet, sorry I'll have to go back and read later. I typed this after loriks second post.~

Thank you all again for your prayers concern and your help. Still nothing, this is getting harder by the second. I know we are all at our limits end.

I have so much I want to say to you all but I'm not sure I have the time, I have 20 other things to be doing now, so please try not to read between the lines too much.

loriklorik, I was not offended by your post, I'm sure you have spent some time in his my space account. As much as we may not want to hear something?s I know we need to look at everything. Thank you for your concern and help investigating his personality.

We know that he has used pot before and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he is still using it. We have had him tested for other drugs and everything else has always come up negative. He does have a fascination with acid (so does his dad who isn't a user of any drugs ~ I'm guessing that is where the influence came from). He hasn't used it in the past, I doubt he would start using now, but I'm not so blind to say that it's not an option. Both his girlfriend and his brother who are very close to him are positive he would never use it.

Also loriklorik, some of your questions have been answered in my other posts, no he doesn't have a cell phone. We are in contact with Texas, friends and police. We do have access to his bank account, there has been no activity in it and there wasn't any major activity in it prior to him leaving. At the same bank he doesn't have any other accounts, but we could look into the other banks. Most of the ground searches have been done by ATV's. We had 35 of them out yesterday in different areas. If you are familiar with our area off roading is a huge option.

The news stations are continuing to cover our story and we are getting "sightings". So far none of them have been Chris. It's so hard to have this roller coaster of hope and then disappointment. Some of the news stations and papers have missed some of the facts, like where he worked, how tall he is, but mostly as long as they get his picture out there and his blazer description out there then I'll get over it.

I?m out of time, I know I didn?t get to all the things I wanted to say. Mostly I want to say thank you to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. It really does help knowing that there are people out there that care and are praying. We can feel the comfort of the prayers.

~Shannon
shan..maybe ask them (fbi)to go through your computer.

also burning man was recently going on. could he of taken off to there?

shanfood, i can't imagine how you are feeling right now, so thank you for taking the time to keep us updated! my thoughts are still with you and your family.

for everyone mentioning the "drug references" etc...

guys, we're talking about marijuana here. the fact that an 18 year old kid smokes pot doesn't make his disappearance any less bizarre. it isn't exactly the type of "drug" that prompts someone to go missing with no word to their family or friends.

i'm quite sure the FBI knows enough to check his myspace and his e-mail accounts, etc. i know everyone is trying to help, but i think this thread should be about supporting shanfood and her family.

You are in my thoughts....
Oh, my dear - you are in my thoughts and prayers. May he be safe and under God's care.  Hold close to your faith for his safe return.  I know this must be difficult - think good thoughts. The power of positive thinking.
They are coming to take my computer for a couple of hours...I'll be back on as soon as I can.

Thanks again for all you are doing for us!

~Shannon
Just keep holding on and don't lose hope. You are still in my thoughts.
