Mission: Run Around the World--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!
We're on a mission to Run Around the World!
Please visit the previous incarnation of our thread here: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/484 66.html.
Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!
Some info about us:
We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.
Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.
Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!
Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.
For detailed mileage, please visit our spreadsheet: http://www.editgrid.com/user/new_cc_worldrunn er/Runners_Log

Remember, ANYONE is welcome to join, and everyone is welcome back, no matter how long you've been away. Happy running!
Minie, I am totally governed by how I feel regarding long runs. Last weekend I ran 13 miles on Sunday, then on Monday ran another 5 because I felt perfectly fine. The day after that, however, I had to take off. So it just depends, but certainly listen to your body.
Primadonna, I would TOTALLY buy a sticker that said that! Ha! I hate to carry anything on my runs, not even a camelback, so I usually just suffer through without hydration. Also I find that drinking water gives me a cramp, so that furthers my resolve. I have the idea that it makes me a stronger runner, hee hee. This might be totally off base, but I really have no alternative.
Droach3, great work on shaving another 2 minutes! That's a terrific improvement!
Have got another run planned for tonight so I will post my weekly miles tomorrow morning. Cheers!
I was doing pretty good for a while there. I had gotten up to 6 miles and then my job got in the way. It's amazing how much you lose when you are away from your routine for a week. Then trying to get back on routine only to get back on the road for another week and so on.... Finally though, I am done with my Teaching schedule and am just in the office.
I lost so much and now am only back to 3.2 miles a day. I gained and jumped back up to 220. I am trying my hardest at the gym. I am not only running, but doing interval training and weight lifting. For some reason though, I am trying to scale a wall and I am not Spiderman. I feel better though, I guess that's a plus.
I wasn't suppose to move until June, but now I am moving at the end of this month. So I didn't reach my goal of 190. I am eating right and working out, I guess that is all that I can do. I'm sure when my body is ready then it will kick in and do it's thing. Ok, I have rambled on.
Kraka
Jenka-Thanks for the input. I knew I wanted to run this morning and had a feeling that if I ran yesterday today would have been impossible so I ended up just taking an off day. it worked out well for me. My run this morning felt great.
Hi all! 100 miles for me this week.
Hi abaker1961, are you getting ready for a particular race? It just sounded like it, based on how you stated that this was a "cutback week".
minie13--I just wanted to throw my two cents in to the topic of rest days before and/or after long runs. In my first year or so as a runner, I always took both the day before and after the long run, and I still think that such a plan is advisable for someone who runs no more than 4 days a week or whose weekly mileage is no greater than 35 miles a week.
Given a choice between run the day before or after the scheduled long run, I prefer to rest the day before and do a run of up to half of the distance of the previous day's long run (for example, a 20 miler on Saturday followed by a 10 miler on Sunday). I'm not sure why, but I always seem to have the energy to complete the two workouts when they are scheduled like this, rather than in reverse (for example, a 10 on Saturday followed by 20 on Sunday). If one chooses to do the 10 followed by the 20, then the 10 should be at a really easy/slow pace, slower than the average pace per mile that you would choose for your long run.
Finally, if you're interested in seeing how fast you might be for an upcoming race (such as your 6K next month), I suggest that you run a time trial of that distance as part of your long run. But considering that your time trial should be an all-out effort, you should schedule the trial on a cutback week, so that your body isn't worn out by the high mileage of a heavier week. Also, given the degree of effort in your trial, you would want to go really slow in the remainder of that day's run. And don't forget to rest both the day before and after you attempt this.
primadonna98--I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your water bottle. That's the fear that I have had regarding stashing bottles along my route. It's something that runners often do, so I figure that people would know better and leave these bottles alone. Maybe these stickers would help.
energygirl, spacedreamer, aezell1, heatherlanders, tatjanaturtle, jenka--great to hear from you. Keep running and kicking butt!!
kraka--welcome back!!! We'll be sure to add in all of your miles.
wiliwigi--yes, I'm glad to see that spring is here. I hope the kids are feeling better.
melxcloud--Welcome aboard!! Glad to have you join us.
WOOHOO, ultrarunner2!!! I'd love to hear details of your race. You're a maniac.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot--7.5 miles for me today.
Please add 5.0 for me today. First day back after a week of the flu--feeling pretty weak still, but I'm five pounds lighter, too :-)
minie - From 1984 to 2007, I was never able to run consistently for more than two months because I always ended up overdoing it and getting an injury. It wasn't until I started limiting myself to twice a week last October, and then dropping the intensity back in January, that I could keep running consistently. YMMV, as they say--I'm sure everyone's a little different.
I also want to echo skinny_kitty's endorsement of elastic laces. I also got these with my new shoes last year intending them to be triathlon-only. I used to like to lace my shoes up very tight and I worried that the looser fit of the elastic laces would lead to ankle instability. It's not been the case, however, and I think that they are more comfortable and my feet stay cooler too.
Welcome to melxcloud and welcome back kraka! And ultrarunner2, all I can say is "holy cow"; if it were anyone else, I'm sure that would be a typo!
Thanks wrm2105 and jfk61.
Coyote2Moon was wild and stripped me to the bone like no race before. It took me 2 nights and 1 day, 37 hours and 47 minutes, to cover the 100 miles and 56'000+ feet elevation change.
I've put up some pictures and wrote some captions but I'm not really done with it yet. If you want check it out here but remember, it's a work in progress. I also will write a race report this week.
Miles for week of Mar. 19-25: 13.66
ultrarunner, I...I...just don't know what to say. I always thought that during the heavy long distance races you actually had an obligatory sleep period. Geez, guess that makes me the big wuss, huh? Those photos are amazing. You have a lovely family too. Wow. Kudos for living life so darned well -- and congratulations, of course!

skinny_kitty, thanks for writing. I believe that some runners actually do take naps during this kind of events. I myself never do because I'm just a slow back-packer and I'm affraid that I'll sleep too long and missing any cut-off times
. However, once the event is over then I can sleep
.
OMG -- I totally thought there were mandatory rest periods, too! Wow, ultrarunner, nice job!!! I can't wait to check out the pictures. Welcome back, kraka! Thanks for the update, and yes, I too lose so much when I get out of my routine! I hate it when life gets in the way! Hang in there and do your best; that's all anyone can hope for. Welcome, melxcloud! We are happy to have you! Our weeks run from Wednesday to Tuesday. You can post daily mileage or weekly mileage on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning if you forget). Thanks, wrm, for that answer regarding scheduling runs. I love all the advice everyone gives! Wili, I hope the kids are better and jfk, I'm glad to hear you are better!! Take it easy -- 5 pounds?! Kscout, nice job on the long run!!
Wow -- so many runners on the thread now -- YAY!!
Ha ha, no miles for me tonight. My schedule got thrown off a little with Easter. I did go for a walk and will do some core later. I need to do something to thwart the chocolate in the apartment. I'll be away the next couple of nights and may not have internet. If that's the case, I'll catch up with everyone on Friday!
Edit: Change that to 46.5

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
