Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!
Some info about us:
We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.
Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.
Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!
Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Fitnessfreak, sometimes it just takes a while to get back to fighting form. Having a race looming on the horizon will certainly help with motivation, though!
16th-22nd 18.08 Miles. Wow that is 6.6 more than last week. I am currently training for an 8K and then a 10K and then a 1/2 marathon so I assume those numbers will keep creeping up.
another 5 last week and another 5 today. 10 total!!
jfk: Uh...did you look at the elevation map for the bike? Because...uh...well, you'd better not let your butt touch the saddle for the next 108 days! Do all your bike training standing up! Holy cow, that's some climbing you've got ahead of you. Er, good luck with that...
For the week of 16-22 April, I ran 5.6 miles.
skinny_kitty: It's actually not as bad as it looks. Did the climb last year for the sprint, and you hardly even notice it. The Olympic distance course is much worse, with about 1.5 miles in the 10% range. I'm missing that one because I'll be tandem riding in western Canada!
Now if you really want to do some climbing, you should come out and do the Triple Bypass with me next year (sorry, this year is already sold out). My wife drives a private SAG for us, and we have a big ole party afterwards.
Ugh, I'm so out of the loop! I know I've missed quite a bit and apologize, but work is keeping me from many fun things right now!
Ran 2.5 miles today; tough b/c my stomach kept getting the better of me. I'm hoping to shake it off before Saturday's 5 mile race... cross your fingers!

Sorry for the late post ... Have been out of town on business.
Week ending 4/22 - 11.5 miles
Ran 5K race Last Saturday (3rd 5K race to date) and had PR of 24:17!
Jan 1 - started running (could not make more than 1/2 mi at a time) and would probably take 45 min to run/walk a 5K.
March 2 - Ran 1st 5K in 27:35
March 30 - Ran 2nd 5K in 25:32 (Goal was 25:40)
April 19 - 3rd 5K in 24:17 (Goal was 24:45)
Next up a 10K 5/18 and trying to make transistion to the extra distance and not as much speed/pace.

hee hee. thanks for the well wishes. I'll let everyone know how I did, assuming I don't drop out from the shame of having to use a bathroom every 1.5 miles. god help me.
skinny, I totally missed your half-mary and am adding a belated WAY TO GO! You're awesome and I bet your time was way better than you think. Same to all the posters who were feeling off during their races.
jes516, the shoe question is a good one, and I hope you found some answers as the post was earlier this week before buying anything. My personal faves have been Mizunos and Brooks then New Balance BUT they are also the only 3 running shoe brands I've ever tried. Here's why they worked so well for me:
I went to a specialty running store and said, "Help me." So, please, do yourself a HUGE favor and go somewhere that doesn't hire a warm body but rather has staff that are trained in the biomechanics of running. And since I wouldn't be a good runner if I didn't point you in a more specific direction, go to http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-319--1048-0,00.ht ml to find a store near you that will assist you in finding the perfect shoe. Also, bring a pair of your old running shoes to give them a better idea of how you run. They should watch you run, but just in case, bring the old kix. EDIT: Thank you to all for the birthday well wishes! I spent the day sick in bed with a sore throat. Blech. I DO have a personal goal of running a full marathon by my 30th birthday (2 years to go) and maybe even the weekend of my birthday. jfk, I did think about running 30 miles for the 30th but then I thought, wow, why do 30 when 26.2 is already mapped out for me? ;-)
I second the opinion to go to a specialty running store. I just got new shoes that way, and they first watched me walk without shoes on, then we talked about how I run for about 10 minutes, then he brought out a couple of pairs of shoes, all of which I ran in on their treadmill while he watched, then we discussed them from there. It was such a great experience, he made me aware of things I'd never even thought about. Also, a friend of mine pointed out that once you know what shoes you like you can usually find them online for less money. So, you pay for the first pair, but then can find them for less expensive. Totally worth it.
Yes, I second the idea of buying them online. I've found my shoes online at 30-40 dollars off retail (or what passes for retail at Dick's Sporting Goods, otherwise known as Mark-Up Central). Once you know what shoe is best for you, you can just order them when it's time for a new pair and they magically show up on your doorstep.
I made the mistake of running outside last night around my gym (instead of inside on the treadmill) and the car exhaust almost killed me. Note to self: running outside during evening rush hour in a congested area is a BAD idea! I had to cut it short and head into the gym in order to finish my run on the treadmill in deliciously filtered air.
