We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi, 20.1 miles for me today. It's my first 20 mile run since the 50K meltdown, and my last run of that length before my upcoming marathon.

minie13: My triathlon coach is always trying to get me to taper before big races, but I never do. The captain of the team, however, gave me serious warning that you can get away with the overtraining for a sprint (5K) or olympic (10K) race, but it will definitely cost you for anything longer. I think most would say the week before should be easy, with basically nothing for 2 days ahead of the event. Just gotta be sure to adjust the food intake as well :-)

skinnny_kitty: The bike is ordered, and should be ready for the weekend! P2C with Ultegra (53/39, 27/11), Sampson aerobars (the only ones that fit my gorilla sized arms), Keo "Ironman" Carbon/CrMo pedals, and the extremely sexy Flashpoint FP60 wheels. And a new pair of Sidi T-2's to wear with it! It will practically coast uphill.  And since you probably know French----does "cervelo" mean anything in French?

So now it's the orienteering season. I've been running in the woods with a map doing extreme adventure sports. I added up the approximate running part of the sundays race and the night-in-the-woods I did yesterday and got a rough 9.31 miles. I can only hope that this number is somewhere close to the real distance :D

8.6 last week. (23rd-29th)

Interesting......  I guess its just the way the workouts fell....

Kind of a bad running week.  Had the flu the first half the week and then winter returned and bummed me out during the weekend.

Today was the only day I ran this week.  Mark me down for 12.1 miles.

14.25 miles for me this week (4/23 - 4/29). 

I was planning to taper and not run thursday and saturday, with a short run on friday, but with this test and not being able to run monday and tuesday I feel lost and thrown off.  I don't think that I'm going to do the 10 miler sunday because there is other stuff that is also interfering.  I'm just going to listen to my body and if I feel up to it then I'll do it, if not then I'll just focus on my half marathin at the end of September.  I'm not getting hung up and stressing about this.
Good Morning! 1 Mile for me today. My mileage has been low lately because my gym just started offering spinning classes, which I have been trying out. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I definately don't like it as much as running, but it's also nice to change things up a bit, so I'm going to try it for a little while longer.

wrm2105 good luck on your marathon. Which one is it? I just did the Big Sur marathon and it's a very beautiful one.

Hi, 8 miles for me today, including speedwork.

Congrats on finishing Big Sur, ultrarunner2--I'm getting ready to run the Rockford Marathon (Rockford, IL) on May 18th. Time to redeem myself after the DNF at the 50K from 23 days ago. I don't want to imagine that all of my training since January has gone to waste.

Thanks for all the congrats, everyone! I'm super excited for this weekend's 10 miler now. You guys are soooo motivating! Jenka, I am usually not friendly pre-race, but the delightful thing about this weekend's 5 miler: the starting line was a 5 min jog from my apartment. Laughing I've never been so well rested for a race before (an AM race anyway). Skinny, what does DH mean? jfk, I have no idea what any of that meant, but I think it loosely translate into "MY bike f-ing rocks!" Yes? Am I getting it? trinzaka, orienteering sounds incredibly thrilling. Way to go for doing something so exciting!!! minie, you can never go wrong by listening to your body! energygirl, I've always wanted to take a spinning class! They sound super intense - what do you think? wrm, good luck on the marathon!!! ultra, congrats on Big Sur!! kscout, congrats on finishing your 1/2 Mary!!! You did awesome! That's a great time; you should be happy!! I hope you weren't too sore the next day. I read a great trick if you were (although it probably won't help now...), walk down steps backwards in the post-race days of soreness. I can't remember why it helps, but man, did it ever make me feel not so sore going down steps after my long races. Good luck training for the fall marathon!
