We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi guys!  Well, I'm up to 2 miles every other day on my slow recovery....sigh...but I accidentally ran 3 miles today (misjudged my route).  Whoops.  Oh well...won't sweat it, but I definitely want to avoid reinjuring myself...so back down to 2 I'll go on Wednesday. 

So.... a big whopping 7 miles for the week for me!

Hi everyone-- a very slow 5.8 miles today. Trying to keep my heart rate in recovery mode today, so my pace was MUCH slower than normal.

Which marathon, kscout? Once I've run the Rockford Marathon, I'm taking 3 weeks or so for recovery before jumping into training for the Chicago Marathon.

Congrats on your performance at Broad Street, primadonna98. You're being a liitle too hard on yourself--based on your performance in the 5 miler, you should have run the 10 miler in around 1:35, so your 1:39 yesterday isn't too far off, even with you not feeling 100%. I'm sure you'll do great on your half marathon(s) this fall.

Minie13, I'm confident that you will have a great performance in your fall half-marathon, based on the miles you're already putting in now! You're really wise in listening to your body and not pushing yourself into running the 10 miler.

8.15 for me today.
5 miles for me for yesterday.  Had to side step a snapping turtle on one of my laps around the park! 

wrm-  I'm planning on running in the United States Air Force Marathon on Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH, on Sept. 20th.  I have a brother who works as a civilian on base (he's an Air Force vet) and lives close by, so I have a place to stay before and after the race.  It will be my first marathon.  I may possibly be running in the Zappos.com Las Vegas Marathon in December as well.  I took a week to recover from my first half marathon, now it's time to start the training buildup for the marathon. 
44.3 miles for this week.
Hey, I did 7.5 miles on Sunday and then a little 3.7 yesterday.  Today is hill-workout (oh, joy), so there won't be a lot of miles to show for my efforts.

wrm:  I want your old PR too!

jfk:  I live at the other end of the country, but when I one-day go to Penticton to do the IM there, I'll let you know!  (*Psst* you got your bike yet?)

29.4 Miles for me this week. 

I did something to my hamstring...it's super tight and tender.  It's fine after about a mile in, but that first mile is hell.  Took off an additional day because of that this week, but now I'm back into it again...albeit a bit painfully, but back in.

27.7 miles for me this week. 

Today is so beautiful out, but so hot!  I have a 3.5Mile race coming up in a week and a half, which i'm really excited for.  But now i'm concerned i'm not going to get the time i was hoping for with the warmer weather. :-(

I also used new sneakers on my run today.  My knee appreciated them.

Since I'm doing multisport-orienteering I don't have that much time for plain running any more - I need to cycle and rollerblade also.

But at least most of my runs are done as part of orienteering races and that means a whole lotta hills, swamps and barely runnable forests. Today it was a total of 5.54 miles of those three. Fun:)

Hey--8 miles for me today.

4.5 miles for me this week.   Not bad at all for me, since it included one day when I just had to bail out and walk home - just couldn't get my feet unglued from the earth, or something.   I'm actually up to 2 mi/day - I would never have thought this possible just a few weeks ago!  Thanks to everyone here for all the support, and this inspiring challenge.   For the next round, maybe a route that passes through every country?

 

It was a short 5 mile week for me this last running week.  I keep on having this work thing get in the way of my running.  Go figure!!  I am continually inspired by everyone's goals and effort.  Keep on trucking.

Last week my total miles was 36.4

Please add 4.0 miles of brutal hill repeats for a total of 9.25 this week.  Got some good coaching though :-)

The hills were the 2nd half of a brick workout that started with 20 minutes of 8-10% climbing on the bike---no problem for the new Cervelo!  Completely losing all self control after the re-work, I upgraded to the Dura-Ace package and put on an SRAM 11/26 cassette on both stock and race wheels.  The aerobar shifters took some getting used to, and when I though was bottomed out on the steepest stretch, a quick peek at the cassette showed three more rings I could dig into---Whoo hoo!

It was the first workout for the triathlon group, and it turns out about 40% are training for the "Canada" IM.  Did the workout on the stock wheels--I'll get some pictures when I put the FP60s on.

Ah, what a coincidence...I did 3 miles of brutal hill work-outs yesterday (not part of a brick -- I had the masters swim afterwards last night).  My brick is reserved for Saturday -- 4 hour bike ride followed by a 1 hour tempo run. 

Race wheels, stock wheels, whatever!  We want to see YOU on your BIKE decked out for the PODIUM!!!  Nice move with the dura-ace kit, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.  What chain-ring size did you go with?  Are you on a 51 or 50 with all the climbs you've got out where you live? 

You should train for the Canada IM too!  I'm telling you, we'll be saying "hi" to each other in Penticton one day...
