We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

4.0 miles for me yesterday -- 22.30 miles for the week - woohoo!

Yeah, we could all do a June challenge if we're up for it! I'm going to make mine 100 miles for June, from Sunday, 1 June through Saturday, 28 June. While this total is much lower than what I was running before my half marathon, now it's a little higher, enough to get me back on track. I'll do 20 miles week one, 25 week two, 30 week three, and 25 miles on week four.

Has everyone posted their mileage for the week ending Tuesday, 27 May? If not, post 'em! I ran 18 miles.

My weekly (weakly) total should be 6.2 miles, unless my Alzheimer's is kicking in again.

jenka - Maybe a challenge is what I need to get the fire lit under me again.  Sign me up :-)

primadonna - It was actually more than 54K runners. Talked with a coach yesterday about side stitches...he said it's mainly too much mass in your gut (not in my case--I didn't eat at all before the race), or unregulated breath management (like breathing or hyperventilating with a too-wide open mouth--more likely for me). Is that what you all have heard?

Hello, everyone. Another 6.3 miles for me this morning.
Please add 2 miles for me from yesterday. Seem to have done something funky to my right knee. It's a little tight - right over the knee cap. I thought a nice, slow run might loosen it up, but when it continued to bug me after 2 miles, I decided to stop and do some gentle stretching instead....

Fitnessfreak, that sounds a lot like runner's knee. I get that, too. Mine's usually exacerbated when I run on uneven surfaces that make my left leg go lower than my right leg (like, the edge of a road where it slopes into the gutter). But there are other things that cause runner's knee as well.

Jfk61, what kind of challenge are you up for? Do you want to do 100 miles in June like me? If not, come up with another challenge and we'll help each other succeed!

Anyone else want to do a June challenge? Depending on distance levels we could have 50-100-130 mile challenges. Or any other combination!

4 miles for me yesterday - hill work and intervals - trying to get a little speedier.  I'm up for a challenge - will keep me motivated.

Jenka - yep, I think it's probably runner's knee. I haven't really done any "long" runs in a while - and did 13.1 on Sunday. On top of that, I'm usually a treadmill runner (might do one outdoor run, 4 to 5 miles a week) and did the distance on a paved trail with my husband. Great trail - but it has it's uneven spots. The pain seems to be going away...and I think I'll need to put more focus on strength training in the upcoming weeks.

Please add 6.2 miles for me.  Getting mighty warm out there at lunchtime.

Jenka - Probably 50 miles...Anything more than that just sets me up for failure :-)  Working on the 5K speeds now--July and and August will be all about the half mary, so I should get more miles in.

skinny_kitty: T minus 10 days!!! You getting psyched?

 

jfk:  I'm nervously nursing a hip injury.  I'm probably going to have to bow out of my first 1/2 IM.  I'd shed a tear or two over the extreme (words can not describe) disappointment of the whole affair, but then you'd just call me a cream puff again...  Wink  (BTW, OT:  Thanks for the tubular info!)

If and when I get my running / cycling legs back, I'd love to set some goals and do a challenge in June.  Will keep popping in to check up on you guys and will post miles as soon as my hip allows. 

I just keep thinking that I'll always have Muskoka in September...(get to see Macca in his skivvies -- hmm...)

I'm up for a mileage challenge in June, as I officially start training for the Chicago Marathon on the 17th of the month.

6.0 miles tonight.

I had the kind of run that left me really happy and excited to be running. It was a river trail run in Valley Forge National Park, and I decided to do a warm-up followed by 4 miles of increasing pace. I'm trying to find new ways to prepare for next week's 5K in the hopes that I will PR. This month's Runner's World has given me a few ideas, but today really made me feel good about next week. My pace was on; my breathing was on. It was a "Hell, yeah!" kind of run.

BTW, jfk, I have heard the same thing about side stitches. Usually, I can pinpoint something -- ie. ate too much or am breathing wrong. Often it's the breathing wrong, and more often I'm breathing wrong b/c I'm running too fast... ha ha, maybe because I ate too much. ;-) Either way, I find it gets much better when I slow down, which doesn't help my attitude BUT does take away the side stitch.

My June challenges to myself:
PR in either of the 5K's I'm running.
Run in Egypt as much as possible.
Aim for 30 miles for the month (since Egypt is a crapshoot, I'm being realistic).

2.3 miles for Thursday.
Today will be 7 miles-ha written it down now so I can't back out!
4 miles today.

Damn 7 was my usual 6 mile run plus a mile to the boathouse for rowing. Rowing got cancelled so 7 turned into 6. Then I really just wasn't feeling it, slow and crappy running so I did something I've never done - just turned round and came back the way I came rather than completing circuit or finding a place to cross the canal and come back. It was partly due to time constraints - ie. I had an hour til my flatmate wanted to go out and I didn't have keys...but whatever, excuses excuses! I need motivation so sign me up for a challenge. I'd say 100miles for june but the first week is a bit of a write off cos I'm going to portugal for 4 days then rowing in a regatta so put me down for 80 miles for June.
