Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!
Some info about us:
We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.
Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.
Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!
Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Hey Ultrarunner2! I'm really impressed with anyone who can manage to go beyond the famous 26 mile mark. I can understand how it can become addictive..
Hey skinny_kitty! It's just something addictive to push your own body and mind to keep running for a long time. The longest I've gone is 28 hours and 55 minutes but I might break that by the end of March.
Anyhow, it's totally awesome that you are doing triathlons. The other day I watched the Ironman Hawaii documentary and it inspired me to branch out, get into swimming and biking and try to qualify for an ironman.
It sure will be interesting how that will go.
I might bug you for tips and tricks completing a triathlon.

fitnessfreak, are you out there? Did you run the 1/2? How did it go? And, I've never heard of Runner's whatzit, but of course, that means nothing. Google it. You poor thing. Like you really need the awful feeling of having to pee while running 13.1 miles...
And, Jenka, I LOVED "Storytime with Jenka!" I think when you are back from Ala, you should post more. My first 5K was a I'll-run-a-5K-because-my-friend-is; I would run on a treadmill once a week or two and trained in a month moving from 1 mile to 2 miles to 3 miles each weekend. On raceday, I thought I was going to die and was happy that I finished in just under 40 minutes. And yet, in true diva fashion, I was like "hell yeah, I just ran 3.1 miles."
Put me down for 10.75 today. Went hunting for new trails, but didn't find them and spent about 5 miles on Highways. Bleeeh.

And minie, FWIW, I run an 8:15 race pace (for 5K, hopefully 10K by May), but I do my long runs at 9:30 or more, so you seem plenty fast to me.

Please add 3.1 for me today. Don't know what got into me--the right treadmill, the right part of the iPod playlist or that big dinner last night, but I cranked off a 5K time PR at 24:25.

primadonna: It was a state highway, but fortunately not too busy on Saturday morning. Still, bleeech....
Ran my first 5K Race today .... It went much better than expected.
I have been running only 2 months and was just hoping to finish in one peice and hopefully around 30 -31 min at a respectable 10 min/mi pace.
Ending up finishing at 27:35, which floored me when i saw the 27 on th clock. Like most 1st timers got caught up going to fast and probably ran the 1st 2 miles at 8:00 min pace....preceeded to dog it 2 - 2.5 miles (allowed about 5 - 6 people pass) then decided enough was enough and had decent last 1/2 mile and re-passed 2 -3 people that had passed me.
Finished 1st in Male 35 - 39 (Not sure out of how many as the official results are not up). All in All was very pleased and shooting for 25 minutes at next 5 K in April , been losing weight (35 lbs last 4 months) and goal is 10 more lbs by next race to reach final goal weight and that should be worth a minute or two.
It's very likely that with continued weight loss and training that you could easily take a minute off today's 5K time come April. From calculations according to the Running for Fitness website, (http://www.runningforfitness.org/calc/weighte ffect.php), a 2 pound reduction in weight should result in a 15 second improvement in your 5K time, ceteris paribus (all else being equal). So a 10 pound weight loss could lead to a 1:15 improvement in the 5K, and this may not even account for improvements that come from training.

Mark another 3.1 today. I may have to take a day off tomorrow though I have been going since I started and my calf pain really messed with my time today. We will see how I feel in the morning. Got new shoes today that I am going to use solely for running. Really want to get out there and give em a spin but dont want to hurt myself either.

OMG, rk1, CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's just AMAZING!! You won, you won!! Yay! Oh, boy, now that you've seen the view from a podium, that's all you're going to want to do...
ultrarunner2: If you'd like, I could pm you the training I'm getting from my coach. Although I think the running wouldn't apply to you (I'm a beginner runner), you could probably get a lot out of the bike bricks. This week is recovery for me, but if you'd like I could pass on the info anyway. Is there a Masters program at your local pool? I highly recommend that you get involved asap.
I started out with just the swimming and biking as strengths and have learned to love running more than I ever thought I could. And yes, the longer I go, the happier I am :). DH did Ironman Umbrun (hardest tri in the world) a few years ago in 13hours, 27minutes, and I can't wait to be able to do that many hours of sports at once, too.
You win with 28 hours 55 minutes, though (very cool). I guess that means we're pretty much slow twitch, huh?
Didn't end up running the half on Saturday....in spite of feeling a bit better and completely pumped to run the race, we discovered a leak in the roof of the addition we added to the house last Spring...so spent the morning with the contractor. Sigh......
Oh well....I'm feeling marginally better this week and will probably try running a similar distance either during the week or next weekend.
