We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Hey, 6.3 miles in the rain today. Rain felt so GOOD!

Well I am finally back to it and I realized that I need to be reporting my miles on here so I can keep track of the miles on my shoes!  I've been running the last few weeks at 3 miles a day 3/4 days a week so you can add 33 miles for me but only 3 for this week.  However you want to do that.

 

I had to stop running for almost 2 months because of knee problems but I finally got orthotics and I'm taking it slow as I build my mileage up again.  It feels soooo good!

So I definitely forgot about CC for almost two weeks... anywho, put me down for 36 miles this past week. I'm probably taking next week off because plantar fasciitis is crippling me. :(

My fitness center closed this weekend so they could wash the carpets (it's at where I work so people usually don't go on the weekends), but when it's really hot, I need that air-conditioned treadmill to get my runs in!  And of course, this weekend was disgustingly hot.  So, I missed a run.  I finally called my mom today (who lives 90 minutes away) and asked to use her treadmill.  I forgot how much I hate the treadmill, especially for runs longer than 2 miles!  But at least I didn't skip two runs.

Anyhow, please add 6.5 painfully boring, staring-at-a-wall miles.  Thanks!

2.7 miles of interval training.  I was praying for rain (I love running in the rain, too) but all I got was heavy, humid, ick-weather.

Yep, same story here, it's wicked hot.  And humid.  And generally miserable.  I stayed off my knee all weekend.  I also ate cake, cheese and crackers, pizza and wine all weekend.  Heh.  So this week I'll be keeping my running mileage low again and upping my time on the elliptical and bike. 

Joyfulake, I feel for you!  I need the TV!  Otherwise I die of boredom.  Even music doesn't cut it, and unfortunately I can't read a book or magazine while running because of the bouncing (and sweat!).  Excellent discipline!

All you guys complaining about the heat is making me jealous, I am still dealing with dark cold mornings, and this week is supposed to be even colder :(  At least it hasn't rained in awhile, because while I enjoy running in the rain, running in the cold,dark, rain can be quite miserable! 

just got my race pack for the city to surf run on August 10 (14K).  I orginally thought I would have a hard time with this distance, but since I have been doing well over it on my long runs, I am not really worried anymore. 

Anyway, add another 28.5 miles for me this past week (16 Jul - 22 Jul)

Back from egypt. Nothing of note to report from the holiday running wise-a bit on the beach but not proper milage. I'm up early and I've had my breakfast and planning on doing the half marathon I missed nearly 3 weeks ago now due to dodgy knee this morning. Straight back into it!

17.5 miles this week. 

Like many of you I live in the sweltering south.  The heat and humidity makes me a little concerned about the Labor Day 1/2 mary I am trying for.  I have been following jfk61's advice about running in race conditions.  Are there other strategies for training or race day that anyone would suggest for a late August race (read High 90's for heat and humidity)?  Or is the key just plenty of water before during and after?

manta515: As much as you love summer I do not think you would like our 105F with 85 to 90% humidity.  You don't run so much as swim in this stuff.

bake7829: welcome back.  Glad your knee is on the mend. 

joyfulake: I think you should get some kind of medal for 6.5 on a treadmill with three hours of driving in between.  That definitely has runner written all over it.

5.7 miles for me yesterday.  Ran first 5K of it in 34:01, 47 seconds better than my last PR time of 34:48.  Training is paying off  - getting a little faster - not speedy by any means - but making progress!

Wiliwigi, the best training is to adjust your body to the race day conditions.  It sucks, but eventually you will get used to it.  Fortunately races are usually early morning, which means it's slightly cooler.

Manta515, I'm sure you'll do great on your 14K race!  Also, I'm jealous of your cool weather.  It's going to be another 95 degree day here with a million percent humidity.

I had a dream last night that I was running a half marathon, but I dawdled at home and didn't make it to the start until an hour after the race had started.  Then the lady wouldn't let me start until she gave me permission, and she kept me waiting another half an hour, for no reason whatsoever.  So frustrating!  Heh.

49.8 miles this week. :)
I feel like it has been forever since my last post--took two days off (Sunday and Monday). Back out there today, with 10.3 miles (including 5 @ 15K pace).

It's good to hear from everyone who has posted in the last few days.

Sorry missed a few weeks of posting.  Running totals down as was resting knee and being lazy.  Good news just ran 5 mile race Sunday and ran 4 miles today and not even a slight twinge in the "Runners knee". 

Onward to 10 mile race in 4 weeks and 1/2 marathon in 7 weeks, pushing for Marathon October 19th (12 Weeks ... Gulp) ... I can blame WiliWig as he talked me into it (err motivated me) and I registered today!
