Mission: Run Around the World--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Quote  |  Reply

We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Please visit the previous incarnation of our thread here: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/484 66.html.

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

For detailed mileage, please visit our spreadsheet: http://www.editgrid.com/user/new_cc_worldrunn er/Runners_Log

28.75 miles for me this running week.

11.35 count toward the RATW finish
17.40 count toward the new run around the land down under.

Yay for VICTORY LAP!

Okay, we'll start and end at Rocky Point, Australia's northernmost point!  It's 8,278 miles, total, so we better get crackin'!

OMG, I missed the end!  RATS!

I was hoping to contribute the 13.1 miles I did for my first half Ironman on Sunday.

Guys, I ran (RAN!!) the whole bloody thing!  Didn't take a single walking step -- not even to drink.  Frankly, I was terrified that if I did, it would be game over for me.  A huge amount of people were walking mostly because the bike was extremely challenging.  Almost all of the seasoned triathletes were exlaiming that it was the toughest course they'd ever done.  The run was equally hilly (we're talking Northern Muskokas, here) and it unfortunately broke a lot of spirits.  Add to that the fact that it rained buckets and you get a good idea of the day.  Lucky for me, I love the rain ;)

DH said that it was indeed the toughest half Iron he's ever done.  Nevertheless, I'm proud to say that he's qualified for the world championships in Clearwater, FLA in November.  Pretty cool, eh?  Seems he likes the rain, too.

So, let's do the world again.  Are we starting a new thread?

5 miles for me Today.

Skinny_kitty .... Great job on 1/2 Iron (what is that like swim 1 mile; Bike 60 mi, 13.1 Run - ??).  Originally wanted to run Tri-athalon sprints this summer but got off course on Marathon Quest.  I think that will next years mission, but have to work on the swimming alot .... Can run for 3 hours but about 2 laps in pool and I am done.

Hi, 6.4 miles this morning. More later today...

Please add 6.0 miles for me today.  Intervals again.

Well, after all the times I've come off runs feeling like I'd lost capability, it certainly is nice this past week to come off record runs feeling strong.  I dunno what's up, but I'm glad the pendulum seems to swing both ways.

Congrats on the HIM, skinny_kitty!  Quite an accomplishment, eh?  Are we going to see a complete race report? :-)

I go on vacation and come back to find out I missed the end... go figure!

I got a chuckle out of the new challenge since I run around the land of Oz every day!  Ok, well, just Sydney, will be amusing when we make it here though

The diving holiday was great, gave my legs and knees some much needed rest.  Did 8 miles the day after I came back and it was TOUGH after only a week off.  I run my half marathon on Sunday starting out over the Harbour Bridge and ending at the Opera House.... been putting in some shorter runs this week trying to just get my stride back, but everything just feels a bit off... is that normal after only a week off? Oh well, I know I will finish the half, but may not get the time I am aiming for.

Anyway, I have some miles from before I left for vacation and some from this past week.  So here are my miles run in the land down under to contribute to running around this beautiful country!

Week ending Sept 9 -  24 miles

Week ending Sept 16 - 12.5 miles

Hi again, 5.1 miles this afternoon.

4.5 miles today. Was going to be 13.1 but as soon as I started my left knee was sore and Ive been suffering w. TOM pains the last couple of days-usually I'd say yer whatever if someone said that cos normally I'm fine but I'm hurting this time.

6.1 for me today.

30.2 for my last week

3.1 miles for Monday and 2 miles for Tuesday. Last bootcamp class was last night for the week. No running today :-(

Don't know what to do with myself - I'll just keep storing up that energy for Saturday's marathon run.  I am so excited - I plan to have a blast on that course.  Know it will be a challenge, but I plan to enjoy every minute, even during the tough, hard to get through parts.

skinny_kitty - great job on your 1/2 ironman!

manta - good luck on your half marathon this weekend!

Son had a PR at his home meet last night.  He's trying to get his 5K to sub-20, and came in at 20:17.  It is so cool to see all those middle school through high school kids out there running for all it's worth.  Varsity Boys and varsity girls both took second place in their respective team races.  Son ran in a local 5K race on Saturday, then ran a 5 mile trail run on Sunday as part of a relay team in an adventure race on Sunday, so his PR last night was unexpected.

Skinny_kitty, that is so awesome!  Great job on what sounds like a super tough course!  I could never do that.  As rk1 said, I can run for three hours but swimming kills me.

Manta, you are one reason why I picked Australia!  We could have done the north or south Pole, but it seemed wrong to totally ignore where one of our runners lives.

Keep running, folks!  We'll figure out how to record all the miles.

please add 4 miles this morning!

Sorry for not checking in the past couple of days. I promise to update totals to reflect the progress on our new challenge.

Meanwhile, I've put in another 25 miles in the past two days (11 on Wednesday, 14 today).

Morning everyone!  I've got a 5K race tomorrow and a 10K race next Saturday, blech.  I don't really care about the 5K tomorrow, but it's in my neighborhood, it even starts and ends 5 blocks from my house, so it's really a way to support my neighborhood association.  But on the 10K next week I'm trying to qualify for the slowest seeded category for next summer's Peachtree, which means I have to finish in under 55 minutes.  My PR for a 10K is 56:50, so it'll be hard!  However, I got that PR at this particular race last year.  Wish me luck!

In other news, we're having abnormally cool weather this week: it's been in the 70s, which is SO COOL.  And it's sunny and not humid.  It's basically RUNNING HEAVEN.

Thanks for updating the miles, Wrm!  You rawk!

Hi everyone, 8.1 very slow miles today. Getting myself ready for my final 20+ mile run this Sunday (probably be 21 or 22 miles).

Hey kscout, good luck to you on your marathon tomorrow. Just remember to pace yourself, and don't allow the excitement of the race to cause you to start running too quickly. Remember to hydrate early and often, and remember to stick to a schedule for your carbohydrate/electrolyte replenishment. With temps climbing from 55 degrees at start time to 75 degrees by finish, remember to take great care out there. I'm looking forward to hearing your report after the race!!

Good luck on your 1/2 marathon, manta.

Congratulations on your performance in the 1/2 ironman--I'm totally impressed.

And good luck on your 5K, jenka.

Keep running!!

Hi, 5.3 very easy miles this morning.

Been a little MIA lately - had to travel to LA for work and it's been a little nutso around here!!

Please add 4 miles from Wednesday, 5 from Thursday (on a dreaded hotel treadmill), 4.25 from yesterday and 7 from today.

Got the half marathon next Sunday and I'm a bit worried...haven't really had a decent run in quite some time....it's a mental thing at this point. I'm hoping to have a good run tomorrow - one that feels like I'm not going to die after the 2nd mile!!!  From there, just some light cross training Monday through Wednesday..and then nothing until the race on Sunday morning.

Hoping to at least be at the same time as my last 1/2 back in January 2:07:43, but we'll see. A lot's been going on these last couple of weeks and my workouts, eating and sleeping patterns have all been screwy.

Please add 3.0 miles for me today.

Did the "Dog Days 5K" out at a reservoir North of here.  My wife did the walk with baby and dog, and I ran out.  It was an out and back, so I picked up the dog on the way back.  The dogs played in the water afterwards while we had a "Bark-B-Q".    Intervals been helping quite a lot--held a sub-8:00 pace before picking up the dog :-)  I'm only claiming 3 miles, because that's what the Garmin says, and the results would be just a little too good to be true for a 5K.
