We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

Morning, runners!  I'm going to do another speed session today and hope that helps for Saturday's 10K.  At this point I have serious doubts that I will be able to pull off a sub-55 minute race, but we'll see.  Last night I did 4 miles at 9:10 so there's a chance I could pull off a miracle.  Not bloody likely, but still a small chance.  :-)  There's always another 10K in Feb that's almost totally downhill that I can shoot for!

manta, I would say so, yes.

The swim and the bike are sports in which you're carried either by water bouyancy or by the bike -- which means that the amount of energy expended is different than it is when you run.  So, by the time you get onto your feet for the run, your body is all warmed up but the muscles you use for running are still relatively unused at that point.  It's like starting out every run with a good warm up already under your belt (and risk of injury is greatly reduced as a result).

Endurance is the key to triathlons -- I mean, who ever heard of a "sprint" that lasts over an hour?  Building up your cardio is really essential for a decent race.  That means that you should be able to work out for at least an hour non-stop for a sprint tri, at least 2 1/2 hours for an Olympic and at least 5 for a half Iron (don't let's get started on FULL Ironmans!!  Besides, I haven't been there...yet)

The atmosphere during tri races is very, very different from that of running races in that it's much less competitve and more supportive.  I mean, there's some racing, to be sure, but in general everyone is just trying to do their best on the course.  The day of the race is a culmination of your training up to that point and it becomes an issue of you against yourself and the clock.

Sorry so long.  I guess I really have been bitten by a bug -- racing the Half Ironman last week was the biggest athletic accomplishment of my life so far and I guess I'm still floating on it!

Miles Week End 9/23:

Total: 28 miles

Made 17 mile long run on sunday as 2nd to last long run leading up to 10/19 marathon.  Have 19 mi scheduled this Sunday and will either repeat or start to reduce a bit for Taper the following week.

LR miles are good, but weekly miles are not were the should be as work, kids, soccer practice, shorter days, etc. etc. not getting as much mid week runs as would like.  

 PS - Can we update Page header to Indicate the Finish ....as that 99.4 % that thing is bugging Me Foot in mouth

just catching up on last weeks posts.   Awesome Job and I will be thinking about you, if/when I am faced with my "Wall" in a few weeks.

Heck runnning through that adversity is a greater acheivement than those fancy 2:30:00 marathoners who look like they barely break a sweat ;-)

To fight for over an Hour with sheer determination when your Body says "'I'm Done" is a very great accomplishment.

Another 3.5 miles today ... that distance is starting to get to be old hat .. its almost time to start making 4 miles my long run and 3 miles my short run ....

Sorry about that--totals have been updated for the challenge. The totals above do not include any mileage that is going towards our Victory Lap Around Oz challenge.

Melkor, I think we're taking a little breather before we head back around the world.  Maybe once we finish our Victory Lap around Australia we'll be ready for a new Mission!

YAAAAY!  I finished my 10k this morning in 54:28!  This is just under the 55 minute ceiling to make the slowest seeded category for next summer's Peachtree Road Race, and it's also my PR for a 10K.  I am so pleased!  I honestly didn't think I could do it.  Go figure!
