Mission: Run Around the World--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!
We're on a mission to Run Around the World!
Please visit the previous incarnation of our thread here: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/484 66.html.
Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!
Some info about us:
We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.
Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.
Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!
Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.
For detailed mileage, please visit our spreadsheet: http://www.editgrid.com/user/new_cc_worldrunn er/Runners_Log

Remember, ANYONE is welcome to join, and everyone is welcome back, no matter how long you've been away. Happy running!
Either way, congrats and keep it up!! Continue to let your body dictate how much further you go. and remember:
1. The 10% rule for weekly increases (you should increase your weekly mileage by no more than 10% over the previous week).
2. Every third or fourth week should be a step-back week, where you reduce your mileage (usually by about 20-25% of the previous week's total).
Hi, everyone!
Primadonna, thanks for creating the St. Patty's day challenge thread! I will go over and sign up as soon as I finish this post.
Great job, Bignate!
Wrm2105, yeah, I think we've all been there. Sometimes lead legs just happen. Fortunately, you usually get over it. Good luck!
please add 2.5 miles for me
thanks!
Tough week for me running wise between work and illness. However, I think that the bug that had me down is now gone. Mark me down for 5.25 for this past week.
primadonna98: Your thread is a riot. The run will be fun.
wrm2105: I read you post about a "bad run" and had to smile. Keep in mind that Good and Bad are all perspective. I look forward to being able have the perspective to judge that distance in terms of good and bad rather than just saying "Man how can you run 14 miles at one time?" :)
kcthomas: I hope your hip is getting better. Do you have any idea whether you are dealing with a strain or muscle soreness vs. a tear or bone issue? If it is the latter you may not want to wait it out, a visit to the doctor may be in order.
Hey guys, long time no see! :) I am so, so very glad that you all jumped on the virtual race thing! I’ve been taking advantage of my recent ability to not be on CC constantly, and honestly completely forgot about setting up any kind of virtual race for the spring. I am more than happy to completely turn over the reigns for that kind of thing, so any time someone wants to start one, please do so by all means. I’m just a regular around here now. :) In the past (if I recall) I tried to give about 10 weeks warning, as that seems a good time frame to work up from not running at all to running a 5k. That way it would reel in as many newbies as possible.
In other news, if you can take a lump sum rather than a weekly breakdown, my mileage for the last few weeks has been 40.7. Not a lot, because my taper turned into a lot of cross training, and then I took some time off… after finishing my first marathon! I'm gearing up for possible marathon #2 right now, so I should have a couple of higher mileage weeks in the next month.
energygirl: Sorry to hear about your respiratory issues, but I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better.
jenka: It's definitely true about how "bad runs" just seems to hit every so often. It's odd how the run right after a "bad one" actually is a pretty good one (like today's run).
wiliwigi: You're absolutely right--it's all about perspective. I'm trying to work through a training program for an upcoming 50K race, so that's where the disappointment comes from regarding my run yesterday, with less than a month until the big day. Despite yesterday's performance, training continues to go very well.
kcthomas: I second wiliwigi's suggestion. Please do take care of yourself and your hip.
ultrarunner2: How is your recovery from the LA Marathon going, and how do you plan to transition to your next race?
pandajenn19: Thanks for your input on running the Virtual races. And congrats on finishing your first marathon!! I can't believe you're already training for your 2nd marathon--which one? I'm sure that lumping your 40.7 onto this weeks totals won't be a problem.
aezell1: Surely you must be training for races to run as many miles as you do every week. I know that I would not be running the miles I do if I didn't having upcoming races.
lebrowne and leafsfan17: Thanks for reporting your miles.

Hehe. Well, one, I am far from a fast runner and pounding out the long relatively slow distances doesn't seem to do much damage. The one coming up is in my hometown, so I won't have to travel like I did for the first.
And, to be honest, I would like a do over. :) What you described about your previous run that didn't work out so well is exactly what happened to me in the marathon. If I could have quit at mile 15 I would have! Once I got past that I was fine, but I missed my 'worst case scenario' goal time by a good bit. I know I can do better, and if the next couple of weeks go well I'm going to give it a shot. :)
I just found this thread on CC. I'm just starting my training for two marathons this coming year, Grandma's Marathon in Duluth MN and the Chicago Marathon. I'll try and post my weekly totals from here on out. My mileage from this last week was 19.8.
Thanks Pandajenn for the input. We were talking about another one for Memorial Day which would give newer movers and shakers time to train. Congrats also on finishing and now training for the marathon. I'm trying to talk myself into running one for my 30th birthday (2 years from now)... hopefully by then, I'll have all the motivation from this site and will be chomping at the bit. For now, it's half-mary's for me.
BTW, wrm2105, I second what everyone else is saying. Take solace in the fact that almost everyone has experienced it. Of course, for myself, it was at mile 3 of a 5 miler but potay-to, potah-to, right? ;-) I also agree that the run after a bum run is always invigorating.
Energygirl, I'm feeling your pain. An ear infection kept me from running tonight. I'm hoping the doctor's appt. tomorrow will get me medicated and feeling better by tomorrow.
Welcome bat_2721!! We are happy to have you!
And all, please don't forget to sign up for the St. Patty's Day Challenge. Thanks! http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/860 81.html
wrm2105: Thanks for the advice, I never heard that before.
Jenka, primadonna: Thank you for the kind words of encouragement.
Nate.
Wrm2105, you are totally right! After this weekend's craptacular 12 mile run, last night's 6-miler was so easy and wonderful. Made more so because, like you, I was able to wear shorts for the first time since fall. Yay for daylight savings, heh!
Pandajenn, congrats on your first marathon! You are awesome!
Bat_2721, welcome!
Wiliwigi, glad to hear that bug is gone. Best to heal before pounding the pavement again. Running with a cold in the opposite of fun.
Aezell, as always, I'm truly impressed.
I ran 35 miles this past week. Thanks!
