OK, CC-ers! Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is ... To help the newly-created CC World Runners Club run around the world!

Every day that you run, whether it's 1 mile on the treadmill or the Boston Marathon, report in via a PM or a post (but not both!!!!). If you count it as a run, so do we, but try not to include straight walking warmups/cooldowns (jogging counts, though).
You may send your miles (or kilometers) in daily or weekly. Updates will be done weekly as of Tuesday 11:59 PM. Miles will be added up from Wednesday through Tuesday for our weekly totals.
YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE MILES AT ANY TIME! Even if you only contribute one mile, once, we'll still welcome it, so don't be shy! As long as it's run during the week we are working on, it counts.

We will start the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean.
Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

I have to post the obligatory mod stuff - technically, steelslady's daughter (the one who is 11) cannot create an account, because the minimum age is 13. FYI.

The exercise/weightloss challenges started in the games forum every month have a dummy accout set (exercise-challenge or similar) and 3-4 volunteers take care of adding times of the participants in the post roster. I was thinking may be u can set up a new id and with a moderator's help (eyes set on pandajenn19 :) ) move this whole post to a new id. Then invite monthly volunteers to add miles/new runners every week, give them access and they can even add a note on the course n the country/city we r virtually running thru. We can also add a small intro of volunteers (this i stole outright from dbackerfan's idea) everytime a new group takes over.
The reason being, it's going to be at least a year, and you doing everything by urself, i thought may be others can chip in too.
Another point: If we are ok to get friends to contribute, asking them to open an account on c-c might not be so welcome by them. We shud be just able to list their names (with their consent) and add miles.
Alright i m done. Again it's entirely for you to decide. I am fine with even the current setting on this post (as long as i can run and add miles to the group).

That's awesome- thanks! I will list my youngest daughter as Steelsdaughter. I am sure my oldest daughter will make an account here and add her own miles, once she gets home.

pandajenn, you won't have me picking on you, I'll only be doing about 10 miles/week to start. I'll be increasing a little at a time, though, to get ready for the virtual 10k in September, of course.
Although I don't do a huge # of miles each week I would like to contribute my miles to the run around the world!
I plan to start my run today, I may not be great at first...but I hope to contribute some miles to the goal!!! Count me in!

So, anyone is welcome to become a member of C-C (it is free, after all) and contribute miles, but unless they are registered, can post and can be reached via PM, it will make it tough to keep track. One notable exception - those with active children too young to create an account for themselves. Their parents - who must be members of C-C - can then contribute their miles.
I may expand this idea to others ... keep an eye out for the website ...

Woot! I think I'm first! :) 3 miles this morning. Now I have to go to work...
Edit 7:25am - at second job now, and I have two things to add.
First, I don't intend to clog up the thread with posting every single run. :D I just was excited to post what were hopefully the first miles run for the challenge (unless anyone else was out at 4:15am central time).
Second, do you want the running miles, or do you want me to be including warm up and cool down? Because I ran 3, but total distance was about 3.15. I generally never count the walking sections myself, but I'm happy to keep track of them for the purposes of this challenge, if that is what everyone else is doing.

You can post whatever you feel is part of your "run". People measure differently, and I don't want to nitpick. Especially those on treadmills and with pedometers, it's hard to know which parts were "warmup" and which were "run". As long as you're counting it, we're counting it.

We could help you by posting summary totals through the week. And list the post numbers included. It might make the weekly total work a little easier on you. You could assign that task to a few people if you want. I wouldn't mind helping out.

What would be really nice if we setup a little website where everybody could log their miles on there in a database that would automatically sum the totals for us.

I never look at post #s, though. I think the easiest and neatest method would be for everyone to post (or PM) their weekly totals on a certain day of the week and then Zarelha (or her designate) will update once per week. Most likely a couple days later to give her time to get to it.
I would like to post my weekly mileage every Monday morning. Then Zarelha would have until the next Sunday to update the OP. How do others feel about that system?

I don't know why I thought this, but for some reason I thought that every runner would be able to choose their own little part of the route. It probably doesn't matter and it might be too hard for everyone to add their own segments. If we used google maps like I did, we'd need to create a new link each time and post the new link here so the next person could make a segment. But if people didn't want to bother doing that, they could post their mileage somewhere and someone else could decide what their segment is.

If you are running on Sun as well then post your weekly mileage on Sunday else it can be your last running day of week. To avoid confusion u can even post something like
e.g. Total - 10 miles. From 08/01 - 08/04
The person(s)-in-charge will also have to traverse the grand total no. of miles along the planned route and announce where we stand at the end of the week n what's the next destination.
Let's see how we go this first week and then decide how to proceed.

We have 34 runners (and still counting) listed on the rooster, that's GREAT !!

I agree with inci, I will start posting my weekly totals but had to post my first run's mileage. I think on the first day we already have 19.9 miles logged. Hopefully we can average around 90 miles a day so it will only take us a year to complete this challenge.
