Every day that you run, whether it's 1 mile on the treadmill or the Boston Marathon, report in via a PM or a post (but not both!!!!).  If you count it as a run, so do we, but try not to include straight walking warmups/cooldowns (jogging counts, though). 

You may send your miles (or kilometers) in daily or weekly.  Updates will be done weekly as of Tuesday 11:59 PM.  Miles will be added up from Wednesday through Tuesday for our weekly totals. 

YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE MILES AT ANY TIME!  Even if you only contribute one mile, once, we'll still welcome it, so don't be shy!  As long as it's run during the week we are working on, it counts.

We will start the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.  We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. 

Start date of the run:  August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight. 

Let's see how fast we can do this!!!  Please post here if you want to join and contribute your mileage!  We welcome any help we can get!

I also like the RATW login idea.  I would volunteer to help, too.  We would probably need a schedule or some sort of status information (somebody's updating, last post recorded, etc) to keep maintainers from stepping on each other.

If we start a new thread, what would you think of going to a Mon-Sun or Sun-Sat week?  I like Mon-Sun, because my long runs are on the weekend, and that's when I'm usually in the mood to tally them up :-) 

I also agree that the RATW sounds like something that may work.

I like the RATW idea as well. I am hesitant to change the week start and end days for two reason, first as mentioned above, we don't want Zarelha to feel kicked to the curb. Also, I think we need to keep the end of week day during the week as a lot of people don't login on the weekends.

*blushes*  It's always a bit odd to see something I wrote appear somewhere else.  I hope the off the cuff ending of that didn't come across wrong, since I certainly meant no disrespect by it.  :)

Ran another easy 4 miles today.

Just posting here daily until I find a spare moment to tally up my mileage since Jan 8th.....I'm dying to know....the totals at the top (since the last time Zarelha updated) have me at 499.45!!! I'm sure I've zipped right past 500 miles by now, but still - it's soooo close!!
For anyone who cares:  I for one am for the idea of the RATW site.  The Run Around The World is too good of an idea to just let it die.  Especially since were half way through.  I just see a lot of new names coming aboard and posting, but I know if I was new to posting, but my miles were not getting added to the board it would discourage me from coming back. 

Then also when Zarelha returns she will also be able to joing the 4 or 5 signers of the RATW and it will make things more welcoming for her.  I just wouldn't want her to be discomforted by the thought that went ahead and started over without her.  At least however we have all of our miles tallied and we don't have to start all over.  We have had a lot of good times together.

I ran 9miles this week what can I say it was my birthday yesterday.  I felt good and like celebrating.

Forgot to post this last night

Last week's (Feb. 6 to Feb. 12) mileage: 10 miles (including my longest run since Nov. of 6 miles)

 I know there's been a lot of talk about what to do but I haven't read it yet, so I will come back post-dinner and make sure to read. I skimmed a bit and the RATW user id sounds like a good one!!

This week 3.75miles
7.5 for me today.  My knee felt fine the whole time I was running, but as soon as I stopped and started walking for the cool down it started to hurt a little bit.  Hopefully tomorrow it wil be better. 

Since I just joined I'm just going to total my entire milage so far and as I go forward I'll start doing weekly totals. 
My total so far since Jan. 27th is 76.75 - that includes today's run.  But I think today starts a new week, so without today it 69.25...let me know if today counts for last week or starts a new week.  I'm kind of confused on what a week is for the purpose of RATW...

Jenka, thank you for all the hard work and investigating you've done. I would love to help tally the numbers since Jan. 8th. Please let me know how to help. Maybe we could divide the work by weeks and just assign people to weeks? This way we can continue the work that Z did by keeping member/individual numbers each week as well as the group total. I hope that makes sense. And, jfk61, I have no idea of what you are talking about (technically), but if I'm understanding the gist of it, it sounds like a great idea. And, jenka, did I understand you right -- Wiliwigi has already undertaken this task -- excellent!! I think it is possible for us to maintain the purpose of this thread and keep an updated web-excel sheet thing to encourage all posters toward our goal. The original run was done through www.mapmyrun.com -- does anyone know how to set up something similar, so we can track our progress on the map. We wouldn't have to set it up to replace Z's original efforts, but this would be an interim Run that the group could refer to. I hope *that* makes sense. I have really bad web skills, but I'm excellent with numbers. In other words, I may not be able to help with any of the web-based stuff, but I can certainly tally the miles!!

Bignate, I agree. We do want to make sure we make this very welcoming for Z when she comes back. As Jenka has said, I think -- if nothing else -- if we can update the miles, she'll be happy to not have to do that work.

Morning everyone! Okay, so I am not very smart. I went to create a user profile for RATW and I put the birthdate of 1 August 2007, not even thinking about the age limits of CC. So of course the system locked me out saying that no one under 13 is allowed to join. Sigh. So I am in the process of getting the powers that be to clear out the account so I can start over again.

In the meantime I am working on updating the spreadsheet that Wiliwigi created. So far the following people have volunteered to be part of our Tally Team:

I think that's a sufficient number of people, especially when Z comes back. A couple of these awesome volunteers have already suggested that we each take a week, and that way none of us are working every week. This is fine with me. I also think we should keep the weeks at Wed-Tues simply because we're already set up that way, and that's the way Zarelha wanted it.

Tally Team: your first assignment is to work out a schedule of who updates each week for the next several months (after I get the spreadsheet up to speed). Who wants to volunteer? Let's discuss via PM or email.

Hi everyone--12 miles today, with 5 of them as a tempo run (Lactate threshold workout at an average of 7:17 per mile). The remaining miles weren't as fast (warm up and cooldown).

Good luck on your marathon, remkewill. I'm sure all of the training has paid off. Which marathon is it (is it the 26.2 with Donna)? I'm looking forward to hearing how you did.
So what is going on with allof this now?  Are you guys starting a new thread?  I guess I'll just wait to see what gets posted. 

About my knee - thanks everyone for all of the input.  I typed out a whole long response yesterday and when I hit "post reply" I got an error message.  i was too frustrated to type it all again.  In any event this morning there is literally NO pain at all.  Which is ind of weird because I did 60 minutes of one of those weird stair climber thingies at the gym (not a nromal one, but the ones that have the steps kind of in front of you)...Anyway, i am sooo happy that the pain is gone and am going to try to run 7 miles today to see how it holds up.  I think I was doing long runs too frequently.  So now I'm shooting for running only every other day and only doing 2-3 long runs per week.  We'll see how it goes.
