Mistaken for Opposite Sex...Whoops

Quote  |  Reply

So today I had just finished jogging outside and hopped in my car to go get a drink at Dunkin Doughnuts...while there I ordered my beverage with one girl, but then a separate woman rang me up and said "is that all maim "....which is fine, with one exception...I'm a guy lol

In fairness to the cashier I was wearing a winter hat that entirely covers my head and even covers my ears and my entire forehead/somtimes eyebrows and I was wearing a type of gral sweatpants that I have seen women wear and had on my uggs and a simple black fleece jacket thing and was clean shaven today....but still I was kind of embarassed (as was she) when I responded "that's all" and she realized I was a guy....I found it funny, but then again wonder if that says anything about the way I look (not that I care if people mislabel me or whatever)...has anyone else had anything like this happen to them me before...I find it more interesitng than anything....

I was also shocked because I am a 5'7'' 140lb 22 y/o male....I'm thin, but didn't realize that thin (although my mom has said jokingly I have the body of a female hahaha)...oh boy

I used to work in retail and called a man a woman before simply because I wasn't paying a lot of attention to him (just his purchase) and there was a long string of female before him.  I wouldn't take it to heart if I were you :)

I too would make this slip-up every once in a while when I was working in the service industry. It's honestly not because they resembled another gender, it was a brain hiccup. I'm certain the same just happened to you, but now you have a funny story to tell at any coming wine and cheese parties/ mixers/ office meetings etc.!

P.S. I would certainly rethink the Uggs though!

My sister gets called sir now and then.....she cut her hair short and is overweight....so.... its understandible haha.

If it makes you feel better I will tell you a very embarrassing thing I did whilst at work.

I cut hair and at the place I used to work when I first started out ( read Super Cuts )  we had to ask every single person a set of questions as we were checking them in.

It was a very busy Saturday and it was a 12 hour shift after a lot of 12 hour shifts.  So, I am in the middle of a hair cut and person number nine hundred and ninety nine ( just teasing) walked in and I left my hair cut to check this person who, who just happened to be a guy.

So, there I am pen in had, I've asked his name, asked if he'd like a hair cut and if he'd like a shampoo and yes...* drum roll * a blow job with that!

The man handled it so well, he looked me right in the eye smiled and said " Great offer, but I just require the hair cut today, thank you"

I didn't get it at first, I thought I'd asked him if he wanted a blow DRY ! Not a..you know the other thing.  Ug !  When I turned around to go back to my hair cut, all my stylist friends broke out into laughter and it was then I realized what I had asked the guy.  I could have stabbed myself with my cutting shears !

I did try to avoid the front dest all the rest of the day.

Also there was this client who used to come into the shop, checked in with a guy's name, had a clipper cut and bought men's styling gel.  I'd been cutting this person's hair for a few weeks as they had it cut weekly when they asked me out.  I was married at the time, so I declined very nicely.

When the client left, my co-worker turned to me and said " You KNOW that's a girl....right?"  I had NO clue it was a girl.  He/she had sat there telling me about all his/her/s past girlfriends.  I just thought he/she was a bit of an underdeveloped young man !

Also, I have always looked younger then I am..well until the last year ( I've been ill ).  One weekend afternoon I was cutting this kids hair.  And I was really intent on the hair and only half listening to him.  SO, we're having a pleasant conversation and he asked me if I liked movies and of course I answered yes, and I'm cutting and he's talking and I'm not listening and then his words register " I'll swing by after you get of work and we'll go see a movie" ..huh?!

My co-worker looked over and grinned and I had to put down my scissors and look the kid in the face and tell them that I was 30 years old and married.  The look of horror that passed over this kids face..I went from hot to totally repulsive in the blink of an eye and it was written all over his little face.

We held it together whilst he checked out, but the minute he left, my co-workers gave me the hardest time.

These things happen, I would try not to worry to much over it.

When I was a teenager I got hit on by a lot of girl.  But I had my hair buzzed, except for my bangs, wore mens clothes, and always had a hat hiding my long, girly eyelashes.  When I spoke up and said, "I'm sorry, but I don't swing that way!" I got the usual response of, "OMG, me either! I thought you were a hot guy!"

.. Thanks.

I used to work at a hardware store stocking shelves. I was huuuuge, with a flat booty and my hair was stringy and one day I wore it down in a low ponytail - like a long-haired guy would. Yep, right behind me I hear some little old lady say "Sir, can you tell me where something is?". I jumped up from my crouched position and turned around. I don't know who looked more surprised - her or me. Thank goodness I looked like a girl from the front. I'm still haunted by this memory.

guys wear uggs? haha

^^ Laughing ha ha

I also have my ears pierced  (with diamond studs) so I guess that could be why too this happened...or like some said, it could have been a mindless mistake which is also likely...although this has happened to me before too when I was working at a X-mas tree stand this past december and was wearing that hat....maybe i should ditch it hahaha oh god

and yea guys wear Uggs...I wear the slipper looking ones and have a pair of boots (that look like guy boots)...the slipper ones I was wearing though are basically the same for men and women....I know a lot of people poke fun at my love for uggs, but they are soooo comfortable and in a strange way I really love how they look lol...

I was helping a customer at work one day and instead of saying "What can I do for you today?" I said "How can I do you today" He laughed. I blushed.

Also I've called customers and when the wife answered, thought it sounded like a man and said "Hi, is this George?". I feel very badly when this happens... but it is difficult to tell sometimes when they answer the phone with just "Hello?"

Once when I was on the subway a little girl of about 5 came up and asked me if I was a boy or a girl. My hair is short and at the time I was wearing a hoodie zipped up so you couldn't see my chest, but also a skirt and striped tights with Doc Martens(which both men and women wear.) No makeup. I told her I was a girl and she seemed satisfied and walked back over to her parents.

I guess it was the hair, all the stuff you see aimed at girls that age, Barbies, Bratz, Disney princesses, all have extremely long hair. Maybe it was weird to her to see someone with short hair, but a skirt and stockings.

lol.  when i was in high school strangers either thought i was a boy or a lesbian.  i was 250 lbs in high school and since im apple shape, i didnt have much of a girly figure.  i also had shorter hair and wore baggier clothes.   people would constantly ask my mom about her son (my mom has three daughters).  it was weird.

My boyfriend is a big, 6'1, BEARDED man...and he has long hair...and has been called "ma'am" multiple times TO HIS FACE.

Sometimes the simplest thing--a slightly feminine pair of shoes, long hair, long eyelashes--distract someone enough to confuse gender for just a second.

I was in a children's play this summer--where I played multiple characters.  One of the characters was a boy...and when we did meet-n-greets with the kids afterwards, I (on multiple occasions!) got asked if I was a boy or a girl.  (This WITH the boobs and girly shoes!)  But I had unisex clothing on and short hair.

Nothing to fret about.  It happens.

Haha that's amazing. I work at an Apple store and I had a guy come in and say "Can you service me here?" I so badly wanted to tell him that he could at least buy me dinner first but that was dancing on the edge of FIRED so I just stared at him until he repeated "Can you service me?" After a deep breath I was able to steer him towards our service desk but the receptionist opposite me was cracking up.
