Mixing caffeine with aspirin

Quote  |  Reply

I've heard that this is really bad, like equivalent to speed or some other drug, and in some cases used as an extreme "fat burner". I'm not planning on doing this, but I looked it up through search and didn't find much info. I ask because I've started taking aspirin for back pain and I wanna know what exactly would happen if I continued to drink my caffeine or take a daily dose of No-Doz.

I've had a few doctors recommend to take aspirin w/ caffeine (coke, coffee) for migrains, because I guess the caffeine rushes the aspirin into your system to work faster.  My sister does it all the time and I used to do it -- but now I don't drink caffeine.  There's no harm to it.

excedrin migraine is aspirin, caffiene, and acetominophen.

Goody's migraine powder = same thing.

i think what you are referring to was the mix of caffeine aspirin with ephedrine which is not sold any more.  there was a metabolism boosting effect to that cocktail i forget thereason.

and no it was no where near the effect of amphetamines having had them rx'd for add in the past i can tell you not near the equivalent.

not even the equivalent of phentermine haven taken that as well.

I was just about to say the EXACT same thing.  I actually choose to take excedrin if I'm in a ton of pain because it works for HOURS.  I have never had any bad effects from it.  However, you should never take pills like this too often because it can really hurt your kidneys and stomach.  I have never heard of it being an extreme fat burner though.

Well let's think about this. Aspirin thins the blood. Caffeine dialates the blood vessels. Therefore, increased blood flood and greater mental alertness. hmmm...

*edit--this is a legal method of fat burning used mostly by body builders

Yes, I've heard of body builders calling this "stacking", but they used to "stack" aspirin, ephedra, and caffeine and I guess it really helped them burn fat and build muscle, although it probably wasn't really healthy. I don't know what kind of dosage they used, but I'm guessing it's more than what the average person takes for a headache. I'm sure some people are still doing the aspirin/caffeine thing, but I hear it's not nearly as effective without the ephedra.

So, to answer your question, mixing aspirin and caffeine in regular doses of each should be perfectly safe.

Thanks for everyone's input. Yeah I think "stacking" is what I was referring to, I didn't know what the term was called. I think they use something else now since Ephedra was banned (in the States anyway) but it's not as effective.

But my back is feeling better now! I just need to lay off the caffeine. LOL
