Anyone have sandwich ideas to share (preferably reasonly simple, I hate elaborate Martha Stewarty recipes with weird ingredients ; ).
One I like I stole from a cafe at my old work. Use a either a wheat, multigrain, rye bread or similar, turkey (low sodium best of course!), munster cheese or your choice, some greens, and Kraft Asian Sesame salad dressing. Yummy cold or better yet if you have a panini grill throw it on!
I also got this simple idea from them hehe...mix tuna, lowfat caesar dressing, and cranberries and serve sandwich style with greens, etc or whatever you wana do. It's pretty good if you're looking for a change from regular ole tuna salad.
This is one an italian deli near me makes - and it is awesome:
Two slices ciabiatta bread or italian bread, pesto, fresh mozzarella, ripe roma tomatoes, put in panini press and grill. They call it something else, but I refer to it as a caprese panini.
What about grilled portabella mushroom with melted mozzarella on a whole wheat bun? Very good.
I love a sandwich made from whole grain bread with (any flavor you like, there are many to choose from) hummus instead of mustard or mayo, turkey and romaine lettuce. Tasty, filling, and healthy! You could add tomatoes, too, or other veggies such as cucumber slices or avocado.
What is a weird ingredient? Alfalfa?
Na...weird to me is more like anything that's just unpractical to find in most areas. I never tried alfalfa but if they don't have that in my grocery store I bet they'd have it maybe in one of the health food stores around me. Had something in mind with alfalfa? : )
All I have to contribute is a ditty my daughter learned in Girl Scouts
Sandwiches are beautiful
Sandwiches are fine
I love sandwiches
I eat them all the time
So eat them for your dinner
Or eat them for your lunch
If I had a hundred sandwiches
I'd eat them all at once
It goes on with many verses which I won't bore you with.

that would be alfalfa sprouts. Very sweet and tasty.
Peanut Butter Sandwiches are good.
And of course the ever popular ham and cheese, I like turkey instead of ham
And then there is tuna, mix w/ a little light mayo.
I love sandwiches! They are the perfect base for a meal and can easily be incredibly healthy.
Here are some of my favorites.
Veggie Sandwich:
Toast two slices of your favorite bread, I use whole grain. While that is toasting, cut up slices of cucumber, bell peppers, and grate about 1/4 or more of a carrot. Take the toasted bread out and spread each side with hummus - I usually do about two tablespoons. On one side lay out the cucumber slices and a small handful of fresh spinach, and on the other side arrange the bell pepper slices. Top both sides with the grated carrots, put the slices together, give it a small squish, and enjoy.
Green Sandwich:
Toast two slices of your favorite bread. While it's toasting, slice up cucumber and mash one avacado in a bowl. Add a bit of salt and a squeeze of fresh lime juice to the avacado. Take out the bread and spread avacado on both halves, I usually use about 1/4 cup. Arrange cucumber on one half and spinach on the other, put both halves together, and enjoy.
AB + SB Sandwich:
This is my twist on the classic peanut butter and banana sandwich. Start by toasting two slices of your favorite bread. While it's toasting, slice up half of a banana and a few strawberries. Take out the toasted bread and spread the sides with a tablespoon of almond butter each. Arrange the banana slices on one side, and the strawberry slices on the other. Top the banana side with a sprinkle of cinnamon, put the slices together, and enjoy!
*All of these sandwiches taste delicious untoasted as well.
Also pita bread is delicious with almost anything! Plus super easy to fill. Some options I like:
Chicken or turkey with fat free cream cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
Tofu! Put slices of tofu with a splash of Asian dressing and veggies..mm.
Egg whites with ketchup or tomatoes, herbs, some cut up steamed broccoli or something.
Mediterranean style with hummus and a bunch of veggies
"Dessert" with cut up banana, greek yogurt with a splash of honey, and cinnamon! sooo good :D
PS Toasting pita makes it about 150% more delicious.
Yeah! Sandwhiches are my buddies lol
I like for a base... nice, hearty, multi-grain bread.
Some fav combos include...
Tuna and Hummus with tomato (seriously, it's good)
Boca burger with lettuce, cheese, and greek yogurt
Canadian Bacon with fat free cream cheese and tomato
Chicken with mustard, greek yogurt, and vinegar mixed together, topped with lettuce/tomato
Eggbeaters, turkey, and swiss
Turkey sausage (chopped) with peppers, onions, mustard, and tomatos
Cottage Cheese sandwhich! You can make it sweet with some melted blueberries, bannana slices, almonds, and cinnamon... OR savory, with some garlic, pepper, tomatos, and cucumber. Yummmm!
And last but not least... the pizza sandwhich! Top your bread with tomato sauce, fat free mozzerella, turkey pepperoni, mushrooms, pepper, and basil. It's delic ![]()
I adore PB + Oat sammiches. When I make 'em I take two slices of wheat bread, smother it with 1-2 tbsp of peanut butter (tastes best with 2), and them dump 1-2 tbsp of uncooked rolled oats on it, and then smash it all together. Tastes good as a folded sammich too. Usually pretty hefty calorie wise, though. XD I eat it when I'm too lazy to cook.
I also love egg white sammiches. 2 slices of toasted wheat bread, 2 egg whites cooked in the microwave, and then KAPOW'd with cayenne pepper. :3
Canned cranberry sauce, pumpkin puree and bean puree make great subsitutes for jam/jelly, IMO!
Cheese + Cucumber sammiches are good too. :D
I'm pretty simple when I make sammiches. XD;;

I like pureed canned green sweet peas (possibly mixed with some avocado) and spiced to taste on pita!
i like wraps with turkey, avacado, reduced fat cheddar cheese (shredded), tomato, lettace and sometimes light ranch dressing if i have enough calories left for the day.

I am not a very imaginitive sammich (yes sammich) maker. My favorite is eggsalad or tuna melt. That said, I love this veggie sandwich from the local coffee shop. It has goat cheese, romaine, granny smith apple slices, avocado and alfalfa sprouts on walnut bread. It is simply gorgeous.
