we were having this 'street of fashion' event and they set up the runway on the main street and the models were walking there the whole day long. so i went to see it, and OMG, that was disgusting. they were skinny. i always thought i liked skinny women, but no, i don't, i like healthy looking women. i was shocked that they look so bad from a close distance, ugh, the bones portruding, and i dunno, they all had like really bad body postures and awkward legs, you know with the knee joints being the biggest part and most of them looked like they couldn't walk or keep balance, bizzarre and disgusting. that just looked so unnatural and far from attractive. well you probably all knew that models are too thin... just wanted to share :)

I agree that clothes hanging off of super-bony models just don't look good...not even in an "artistic" way....and several previous forum posts from guys about what they find attractive have confirmed that guys agree - at some point skinny becomes ugly.

Eww...and I hate the knees being bigger than the upper leg thing too! The fashion industry is crazy to think bones are the best accessory for everything. I think long, lean yoga muscles (not that I have them yet lol) are way hotter.
Well, the fashion industry doesn't care about the PERSON or their BODY. All the models are are hangers. Look at a hanger -- what is it? It's all "bony" with hard edges. :(
I agree with Kaja, Long Lean Yoga bodies are way hotter!
... Hey, i may be a girl, but i can appreciate another females body and admire it.

I'd love a Yoga toned body.
And I'm working on it...
Though not with yoga, trying to get nice legs with cycling though!
Oh I feel the burn after 5 minutes lol.

What with the medias point of view on "Whats hot" -that being bones, bones, bones and oh, a few more bones- you have to applaud the Girls (And guys for that matter!) who continue to have normal bodies.
Like the woman who plays on Grays Anatomy who got married to the George fellow or the actress on that Disney series That's So Raven (She very attractive, I'd hate to see her go on some nutty diet crazy like Hillary Duff and Lindsay Lohan).

I wish actresses would eat more... Then maybe we wouldn't be so paranoid about starving ourselves to look like them!
Gray's Anatomy:  Sara Ramirez!  She is absolutley gorgeous.

I always thought models had terrible posture.  Eek there is nothing worse than bad posture.  Put bad posture on top of bony and you have that creature from The Lord of the Rings!

I would rather look like a Boticelli painting than a glorfied hanger with a bobble head, myself.
Glorified hanger with a bobble head, THAT IS SO THEM!!! Lmao

(No offence to Models or people on here with ED's- darlings you just need to eat more!)
Thanks to the people who said yoga bodies look hot- I'm a yoga teacher so I'm flattered! I agree, people who do yoga usually end up with great posture, flat tummies and muscles that are strong without being too big, as well as all the other, non-cosmetic benefits of course...
Also, they look weak. I would much rather have my thighs be wider than my knees but be all muscle and butt-kicking as opposed to breakable.
Anna Nicole Smith was a beautiful model...
I know! I'm trying to be a model, but I know I'm never going to be skinny enough to have knees bigger than my thighs and I'm hoping to be accepted with a leaner, more athletic body, not a 00 stick. However, I have a feeling it won't work because it seems like the fashion industry only cares about bones. =(
You are beautiful! Don't you worry and good luck :)
I am 37 years old, 5'4" and 168 lbs, and the mother of 3. I have never felt so good about my body! My (younger) boyfriend can't keep his hands off me. What's on the inside (a good heart, sense of humor) is way sexier than being a skinny toothpick!
My boyfriend works on films, and he's seen a lot of women celebrities in person ... he always comes home and says "They are so tiny. Like an 11 year old." sometimes he'll add "And enormous breasts" hahaha

I also used to do production in nyc and one of the things we looked for when meeting a model was very prominent collarbones.  The more prominent the collarbones usually the thinner they were.  The camera can add 10-20 lbs so it looks normally healthy in  print .. but grotesquely emaciated in person.

We'd also get catered lunches and the Plus Size models were gorgeous healthy girls with a good appetite!  The regular models would usually order a Diet Coke extra cold and a cup of ice to chew on.  The photographer would usually yell at them and ask them to look more awake and demand that someone get them coffee.
I always thought models' legs were weird looking too, and you're right, they do have terrible posture!  My end goal is to be slim (yep... I do yoga!), and muscular.  The number on the scale is secondary!

Put bad posture on top of bony and you have that creature from The Lord of the Rings!

I would rather look like a Boticelli painting than a glorfied hanger with a bobble head, myself.

You guys are hillarious!  Thanks for the laugh!
hmm...i dont think this post is very nice. and frankly it wouldnt get applause if it was all the same words but pull out thin and put in fat.

"we were having this 'street of fashion' event and they set up the runway on the main street and the models were walking there the whole day long. so i went to see it, and OMG, that was disgusting. they were fat. i always thought i liked thick women, but no, i don't, i like healthy looking women. i was shocked that they look so bad from a close distance, ugh, the fat portruding, and i dunno, they all had like really bad body postures and awkward legs, you know with the hips being the biggest part and most of them looked like they couldn't walk or keep balance, bizzarre and disgusting. that just looked so unnatural and far from attractive. well you probably all knew that models are too fat... just wanted to share :) "

i just dont know why its ok to thin bash.
I vote for: NOT OK TO THIN BASH

obesity is unhealthy too!
Well, it is ok to thin bash when it looks like you are a skeleton. There are skinny beautifull people, not that I would like to be one of them because I love having curves. Being too big and too skinny is a problem. Ofcourse people are going to talk about it. It is discusting. Obesity is unhealthy and being underweight is also unhealthy. If these people do not want to be talked about or made fun of then maybe they should do something about it.
I've never posted before just felt I had to comment on this. I am naturally skinny and reading this post really hurts. I've always felt very ugly and gawky and have often over eaten to the point of sickness/vomiting in an effort to gain weight to please other people. Saying that fat people look disgusting and skinny people look disgusting are equally hurtful and ignorant. I am part of the fashion industry and I know most people are very misinformed about models. Most models are naturally thin and have very fast metabolisims. Please have read of www.modelresource.ca/Mediafeatures/Resource/m use_results.shtmll
I read alot of comments on here about people loving to have my problem of gaining weight but if you read through this thread you can see that it's not a great life:people saying you look like an 11 year old or you are not a REAL woman (whatever that means)/anorexic. I'd like to add that excessively skinny models are demanded for by the designers from agencies. In turn agencies fill their roster with skinny girls in order to supply the demand. What I'm saying is don't get mad at the models get mad at the designers who feel that skinny models look best in their clothing.

I for one found your post quite offensive as well. Many models are naturally slim, and their bodies can often be naturally frail looking. Some models yes, do have problems, but if it were all, there would have been alot more media coverage of deaths, hospitalizations etc. There have been what, 2 incidents in hte past year in an industry with hundreds of girls? The awkward proportions in many instances are just awkwardly proportioned bodies. Look at Gemma Ward for example. Her proportions are very off but it works for her- and her twin brothers who are not models look the same as her. Gemma and her brothers

Many of you say alot of these girls look like 11 year olds. If it was a local event, they probably werent far off from that. I've noticed that at least here, local 'fashion shows' involve either members of a fundraising group or young girls in a small local agency. Here, I went to a local spring show and the girls were very young (not a bad thing) but they also did not have the height that would take them further.

Yeah, models are skinny, sometimes unreasonably so, but it is what the clothes require. Take a look at some backstage photos of girls such as Caroline Trentini, Doutzen Kroes or Hilary Rhoda. All three of those girls are healthy and clearly have meat on their bones. Then there are Irina Lazareanu and Coco ROcha who are just plain miniscule bone frames and then there are the 'alien beauties' of Gemma and Lily Cole with their little heads, baby faces, and mile long limbs.

Collar bones may be an indicator and they do show ridiculously on anyone too thin, but many people of normal weight will have protruding collarbones. My mother is normal lookign all over but her collar bones can be seen miles away, I have a friend who is slightly over weight and has as much collar bone prominence as me and I am a healthy BMI of 19.

I'm actually interested in modelling myself (over knowledge of fashion not a clue yet?) and people Ive spoken to int the industry are much more for pushing excercise and personal trainers to tailor a perfect maintenace and toning routine than in pushing a simple 'lose weight quick' idea. Hell, some trainers in the recommended list make you a menu and I was shocked at how high cal they sometimes are! Naturally I cant afford a trainer yet ;) but it does show that there is a focus on healthy active lifestyles and not sedentary (or active) starvation.

But really, alot of very thin girls have insecurity about their thinness just as many do about their fat. It is important to keep in mind that all women (yes, even Paris Hilton as much as we all hate to admit it) are real women.
The fact that several countries have banned models with BMIs of under 18 in fashion shows is a pretty explicit admission that the industry itself promotes unhealthy behavior and is finally starting to bend to public demand to clean up their act and present slightly better role models to the millions of teens with crappy self image who worship the fashion industry in all its misogynistic glory.

As for models being "naturally thin," no. They are naturally tall. If it was truly "normal" to have a BMI of 17, you'd see the word "normal" pop up in the BMI calculators which were designed by medical professionals. The argument that 'it's okay for some women to have a BMI of 17 because they are models' indicates more trust in the fashion industry than in medical doctors to know what is healthy and what isn't.

It would be ridiculous NOT to bash women who starve themselves and jeopardize their long-term health for money. Talk about selling out.
Well, first of all I am not no where near ignorant and secondly I really do not care who was offended by what I said. You can't come and do anything to me so I don't care, and if you could then you would be very disappointed. If this does not pertain to you then do not post back. Yeah so what, every one has opinions. Being Too skinny looks nasty. A lot of models look sickly. A lot of obese people look unhealthy. It is only facts or should I say opinoions. No matter what people are going to say and feel what ever they want. So, it doesn't matter who get mad at me, it is what it is.
