Quote  |  Reply

Hello everyone

I'm planning to start a hot yoga class this saturday because obviously cal counting just isnt enough to lose this last 20 lbs to get to my goal weight I was just wondering what people's experiences are like with this and fitness and losing weight as well as toning in general, does it work? how well? how soon do you notice?

thanks

I just did this class last week and loved it.

Hot yoga is just like any other type of yoga, it's a great complimentary activity but you won't lose 20 pounds from it but you will lose a lot of water weight.

In fact, I had 3L of water that day and was a bit dehydrated in the class. Afterwards my instructor said that because you sweat so much you need to drink 6L of water on days you do it!  I believe her, it was intense.

The moves are similar to a power yoga so you see strength moves as well as flexibility. I like it and I'm going back. The next day I felt fantastic and really rejuvenated to keep at my total fitness routine.

The really seriously 'built' yogis that you see in class or as teachers are often practicing 5 to 7 days a week. It's also important that you find a studio with good teachers- I work at a studio and this one teacher is incredible. I told him today "I like your class before and after it- during, I **** hate you." I always encourage people to explore yoga but a lot of the results you get depend on your dedication.
I did it for about 6 months 2 years ago and loved it, in fact, I'm currently looking for a new studio.  As for weight loss, I would agree with angelyna- I didn't loose a significant amont of weight.  On the other hand, I wasn't calorie counting at the time, so it is possible that the combination will give you the results you are looking for.

I was more toned (legs especially), had much more energy, and felt much healthier and just better about myself in general.  I could feel results immediately, and see results in my body after about 2 weeks of going about 3 times a week.
It couldn't hurt, but if your looking to lose weight and/or increase muscle you'll get better results faster with weight lifting.

I realize it wont make a drastic change in my weight loss or tone and I know weights are my best bet however along with doing the yoga... however I'm looking to yoga to start me off in the right direction and give me more energy to start excercising even more and give me that excercise bug...

I was just wondering if it helps in toning and such and how it makes you feel afterward and how soon you begin to feel the effects

and i also realize that it improves many other things which can't be all that bad

thank you for your comments
