I have stayed with my boyfriend in his parents house for years now. His house is fairly new- his Dad built it- but theres mold in our bedroom. The black kind up around the ceiling and down around the floor on the walls. Its very visible. I have been having sinus problems for a while now, and its getting worse. The doctors can't find any visible signs of sinusitus, but I have every symptom and now a sinus infection. I had allergy tests, x-rays, CT, and blood work done and nothing showed up.Do you think the mold could be the cause??
My understanding is that, indirectly, yes they can. While mold doesn't give you the infection, it may be causing chronic sinus congestion, which can lead to infection. Same reason people get sinus infections during allergy season, because they stay congested.
I believe you can buy a spray in an aerosal can that 'seals' the mold. So if you do the best you can to clean it up, then spray it so it doesn't come back, it should help a lot.
Mould generates spores.... breathe in the spores and that can irritate the airways leading to things like asthma and other respiratory problems. Also, mould needs damp/humid conditions in which to grow ... the same conditions that can make respiratory problems worse. If, when he built the house, he didn't do a good job damp-proofing it then it needs to be fixed. If you just treat the mould but leave the house damp the mould will always return.
If your accommodation improved, chances are your medical problems would too.
Yes, it can cause sinus infections, you should mention it to your doctor. There may be some sort of allergy shot they can give you, but you will probably need to get rid of the mold or move out if you can't.
I had an awful reaction to mold (I was housesitting and the house flooded). Took several weeks after moving out before I felt better.
I also learned that Claritin D 24 hr is the devil
