I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.
I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....
I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!
Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?
Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:
1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.
AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

(YES... I DID get my exercise... in spite of MANY calls, obstacles... last, and not least-- my youngest daughter had her Lovely car totaled by an uninsured driver running a red light last night!!! Daughter is ok, car was towed away... 55 mph impact... up late again!)
Rant!!! Why do the people that hit you, never have insurance-- when it's against the state law here???
WHY don't people pay attention while driving-- esp. near areas where red lights are located-- and while driving faster than they should for the area???
* Wonders... folks in car that ran the light said the driver was distracted/not paying attention... (5 people in the car), was that because-- maybe?-- they saw the driver on a phone...??? *
Growling! today... will it burn calories, too?

Sorry about the car, itty bitty, but thank the good Lord that your daughter is safe and sound. A car can be replaced, a child can't.

No rants today - DH went back to work FINALLY!!!
So, did you catch the new show Ruby??? I LOVE it! It's a real woman with a real weight issue who is working on it with her friends, Dr's and exercise. It showed he issues with all kinds of things, including the price of her underwear and the fact that they don't make bathing suits in her size. I can't wait to root her on next week and hope that she loses and gets healthy for herself. It also showed her best friend who, while very sweet, seems to be an enabler. So true in real life!
Hey, that can be my rant! Why is it that those we love and who love us tend to embrace and encourage our bad habits???

DH gone to work...? Mine never will again!!! (Disabled) I've tried to not go Crazy with him Home so much, but it IS different...! ![]()
Usually, I enjoy it, but I DO get more done if he goes off a while, lol! ![]()
I didn't see the show-- I'm a wee bit weird? I never watch TV, but that sounds interesting... Hope she Succeeds! We need all the Inspiring Success Stories we can get! Too many, "Can't lose it," and, "Can't keep it off," stories!
As you ranted... Those we Love... Who Love us... That's Soooo True!!! And... don't we FEEL Loved when they try to persuade us to enjoy stuff with them...? Healthy living can take a lot of Determination! But... I'm Glad it's IS, "Do-able," and Soooo Rewarding-- so we can be around longer and face those, "Loving Temptations," longer, lol! ![]()
Rant-- WHY can't my energy levels cooperate with my mental desires...??? I want to exercise! I NEED to exercise...!!! My energy-lack says, "Later...snooze...!" ![]()
I SOOOO understand the energy level thing. Mine is mostly related to seasonal allergies that are running rampant right at the moment. My body says "You want to do what????" as my mind is speaking! I know that it's temporary, at least I hope that it is. Usually I am getting better by now however with all the rain that we are supposed to get this week it will be awhile before I can actually breathe through both nostrils at the same time and I sleep through the entire night uninterrupted by MY breathing. Sad but true, my small fry was snoring loudly last night! He's been coughing - dry hacky - all year and he just woke up from a nap and asked for medicine, he doesn't feel good, either. I am afraid that he got my sinus genes.

Why is it that in the fall/winter months your health seems to reflect the weather???? I have got sinus crud right now, courtesy of the lovely fall colors/temps/wind, and this has been a bad week, health-wise, for me. I am finally starting to feel like somebody again. All week it's been rainy, foggy, misty GRAY. Now that I am starting to feel like I will live it's going to get sunny again - AND COLD!!! No, the treadmill just doesn't do it for me right now, I want my walking path outside. I don't fall off of that if I miss a step
. I've already blown off weigh in this week because of a lousy diet while sick and now that I feel a little like moving around I CAN'T.

However, for me-- I would enjoy a change and a chance to walk outdoors while the weather is nice here-- cool and dry... Sooooo.... I find I'm prone to Shin Splints off the treadmill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
ESPECIALLY if I try to walking so that my heart rate monitor is Happy with my pace! ![]()

you are so right. i have ben battling colds for weeks, nothing serious but i do not feel healthy enough for long brisk walk
