MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)
RANTING BURNS CALORIES!
This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...
* * *
I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.
I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....
I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!
Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?
Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:
1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.
AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! ![]()
Okay, here's the Wednesday night/Thursday morning rant. Why is it that I can do so well at portion control and food choices on HUGE days like Thanksgiving and then turn around and shoot myself in the foot??? I sneak weighed Monday morning and was pleased that I had only gained a pound and that included Shoney's breakfast bar on Sunday morning. Then I had Ruby Tuesday's soup and salad and DID NOT make the healthy choices. I don't care if I did add baby spinach leaves to the salad that doesn't make the bleu cheese dressing a healthy option. Broccoli and cheese soup didn't make it, either. That was bad enough but then yesterday I had MCDONALD'S and no, it wasn't chicken. So this morning for my official weigh in I had a 2 lb gain. Still feel crummy and don't want to exercise and this afternoon indulged greatly in comfort food (won't even tell you what all I ate but suffice it to say it was probably enough calories for the rest of the week) because I was feeling puny and down on myself for the gain. ![]()
Thou art NOT alone... Good question!!!! I could use an answer, too, lol!!! ![]()
Deprived feelings after being good... Or after being sick... or Reward feelings... etc... Too many excuses with strong feelings...!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
Recognizing the Danger zones, we prepare for them... then the less-noticed Danger zones crop up-- by seeing them now, it might help us prepare for them, too, next time... ![]()
Take Comfort-- These Holidays, too, will pass...!!!!!! ![]()

Okay, better today but tell me WHY I am supposed to get dressed and go upstairs and walk on the *%$# treadmill when it's cold and wet outside? HUH????? Oh, yeah. We are cutting teeth (3 yr molars) so no one got any sleep last night much. Every time he went to sleep his head stopped up and he got up crying because he couldn't breathe. Gave up around midnight and sat in my recliner while he laid propped on pillows watching cartoons and cat napping. Seems that every time I would doze off he needed his nose blown or the channel changed. NOT in the mood to exercise today!
On a more positive note I decided this morning that I would eat what I wanted today as long as I stayed in my calorie range. Had cheese toast on white bread for breakfast, along with flavored coffee with splenda AND half n' half. Was going to eat the rest of small fry's vienna sausage for lunch, even had it logged, when I opened the refrigerator and saw a Slim Fast shake. Made the healthier choice without even a flinch. Maybe I am turning a corner.
**SIGH** Off to the treadmill and exercise time.
26 year old males that eat ice cream/cheesecake/etc and 10 cokes a day AND lose weight deserve bad karma!!
Oh, and he licks his ice cream in an obnoxious manner just to annoy me. Grr. Skinny freak of nature. He's like the little brother I never had nor wanted.
* waves to Betsytuck! *
Hope your day ended Good! Good Job deciding to exercise anyway, lol! ![]()
Opusanna-- try a 53 year old who never changed from being able to do stuff like that-- after 29 years of marriage, FINALLY moved from 32 inch pants to 34!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT Fair, lol!!! ![]()
I feel your pain, lol!!! ![]()
You know, I really am beginning to dislike the cold. Went to help the neighbor pick up pecans Sunday afternoon and ended up on my hands and knees on the cold wet ground. Guess what???? I have a cold - AGAIN! Couldn't let her do it, though. She's in her late 70's or early 80's and has a brain tumor. Talk about the guilt I would have felt if I had left her to her own devises!
Teeth still aren't thru the gums yet and now, along with the runny/stuffy nose we have the teething diarrhea. Back in the diapers yet again because he has no control over it. At this rate I will have been in Depends for YEARS before he's out of diapers! At least he has gone back to sleeping - sort of - in his own room. He is going back and forth between the baby bed (which is iron and 100 years old so it's more like a twin bed for midgets) and his "big boy bed" which was my dad's double bed when he was growing up. Hope he makes up his mind soon as we are having company and don't know if I need to get the blow up mattress out or not!
Sorry for the delay in commiserating, lol! Was knocked offline last night with weather...
Sorry about your neighbor!!! Awful state to bear... I Appreciate your helping her, if that helps you any with the cold! ![]()
Teething-- diapers-- what Joy!!! ![]()
I DO miss my young years with my little girls-- as I was told I would-- but the rough parts were still rough, even in memory, lol!!! Have a belated {{{Hug!}}} to help you through the daily Chaos!!! ![]()
Hope today is better!! ![]()
Mini-Rant...
WHY do things that 'Need-ta'-be-Done,' always arrive to pile up together with tight schedules??? ![]()
Currently, the beautiful greens, (Mustard, Turnip, Curly Mustard, Kale and Rape Greens), are available and BEAUTIFUL for being canned-- NOW!
RARE Winter Advisories went up today-- possible snow coming! Here, in South Mississippi, that is about once in 7 years-- and it's been 8 years now!!! Uncertain how the Greens will respond to that... more time pressure!!!
Combined with a Wonderful week of Revival Services each night... Requiring early shut-downs with pressure canners that take 2 1/2 hours to process a load, once your spend an hour or so washing HALF a load... (In the washing machine, lol!), and repeat, all day, and store washed ones for processing the NEXT day... one load a day-- maybe two-- being all I can finish in a day!
THEN... add in slow starts due to unexplained nasuea, Dr. visits, phone calls, and LIFE!, etc...
AND the final note of pressure, lol!-- My Pastor coming to see my Husband and I at our pew before Service began last night, to pick-complain-Funny-but-Serious about WHY didn't I bring my Auto Harp to sing last night...!!!!! Felt lame trying to explain my having felt poorly lately with vague issues, and being too busy to tune the Harp-- 40 minutes required! with 36 strings, like 6 tight guitars to tune!-- or practice a song that is Special, but a Challenge...
* whew! *
GOT TO practice today... and finish these Turnips and Mustard Greens, and some Turnip roots, too! I THOUGHT Life would slow down when my children grew up, lol!!! ![]()
My poor Husband has had to manage meals through my many jars while I'm so busy... MAYBE I'll manage to cook him some spaghetti noodles today, to go with the Spaghetti sauce I canned for him before-- he'd STILL be fed from one of my Lovely jars of canned food, but it'd at least be a Different jar, lol!!! ![]()
MAYBE he needs ta' rant in here...!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
* sigh! * Molly has a good thing here-- I do feel better now, lol! Hope you do, too! ![]()
* waves to any Lurkers! Hope you have a Great Day! * ![]()
Your weather should not be a factor with your greens. Mine are thriving on the rain/snow mixes we are having and are to have. My broccoli, on the other hand, is just sitting there. Am not too sure that I will have any. BTW, you do know that you can freeze both the turnips and all the greens, don't you? Blanch the greens and squeeze the excess water out (they end up looking like little balls) and place in freezer baggies. Been doing it in this neck of the woods for years!
Why is it that those south of me - literally the Gulf Coast - are getting up to 8" of snow while we here, who are about to have hissy fits over it, can't seem to get any that stays???? HUMMMMM???? My child saw snow for the first time last week but wasn't allowed to go out and play in it. Obviously was not with me because I would have been there with him. He's asked about it almost every day and when he sees it on the news he wants to go there to play. All week, up until after lunch today, they have been predicting snow for us with 2 - 3" accumulation and all of a sudden the storm front is falling apart as it gets to my area and we just have rain, rain and more rain. ![]()
. We want to play and to me snow IS Christmas.
Hope you got your wish! In reasonable amounts, of course!!! ![]()
Been busy this week-- Sorry for the delay! ![]()
I know freezing works great-- Thanks!-- I'm just running too many freezers!!! ![]()
Also, I've learned I'm bad to simply avoid stuff requiring thawing, like frozen tomatoes... Jars are sooo much nicer somehow, and ready to use without getting buried... Deeply... I lose things!!! I'm GOOD at losing things, lol!!! ![]()

Tuesday's rant.....
After taking a few minutes out of the VERY BUSY getting ready for 18 overnight guests to check my email I logged on here to journal and.....AND.....it ATE my entry! I had typed 3 paragraphs, hit enter and NOTHING. Lost the site. Not doing that again. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frustrating!!!!!!!!! Absolutely, TOTALLY Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
Hope it works better today!!!! ![]()
I had an awful computer/operating system before, and copying/pasting were the only way to protect text from the unknown/unpredictable failures I'd have randomly... Usually successful computers make such losses more irritating to me! ![]()
Rant of the day....... Why is it that someone so small can make such humongous messes???? My almost 3 year old has 1) painted my desk with fingernail polish; 2) painted my mouse, desk and keyboard with lip gloss (yes, the shade did match the fingernail polish); 3) mascaraed the desk, chair, himself, the carpet, the walls, the stairs (did I mention that his face was black???); 4) stuffed stolen jelly beans in so quickly that he choked and barfed on the floor; and 5) I just discovered one of my cats shut up in the guest bathroom upstairs. Don't know how long she had been there but there is pee and poop EVERYWHERE!!! Did I mention that I have company coming in tomorrow????? All these are since Saturday, too. I just don't understand it......
{{{Ouch!!!}}} ![]()
* gets back up, rubbing head gingerly-- too much Laughter can hurt ya'! * ![]()
WOW!!!! What a mess!!! ![]()
Of COURSE you have company coming-- in my vast experience, it's gotta' be a Law-- written in Ancient Stone-- somewhere, lol!!! ![]()
Laugh or Cry are the only two choices ya' get, too!!! ![]()
Hope Rantin' helps at least a wee bit with all those Catastrophes! I think you've possibly beaten my worst, due to sheer combo-power!!! ![]()
Not really ranting today much - except that the younger the child, the more obnoxious the noise is that the new toys make. We have a great room/family room covered in toys. I don't know who had more fun, my husband or my child. He still hasn't played with everything! I think that daddy went a little overboard! My mom got him a V-Tech laptop computer so he types when I do. It's supposed to teach him shapes and sizes, letters and numbers.....he's doing fairly well on his own. When he gets frustrated he brings it to one of us and we help him for a little while. When he gets really frustrated he just turns the volume up and down - it's a monkey squeaking. At least it plays a nice little tune!
Hope that everyone had a happy one!
* Happy for Peace and Quiet, hehe!!! * ![]()
My crew received jars of canned Chicken-Shrimp Gumbo, or Venison Gravy, and quart bags of shelled pecan halves, each... (One traded her jars, AND her Fiance's, for a pack of Venison Sausage, lol) ![]()
They received jars for their Birthday's, too... and one called me later to say she had literally hurt herself with her Gumbo combined with Ritz crackers...! ![]()
Mom's cookin' looked mighty good to my grown-and-gone girls...! ![]()
As we still are waiting for any assistance from disability, and know it will be slim-pickin's once we do, the jars of canning I've done this year were nice for gifts. ![]()
(AND-- they KNOW to return the jars, lol!!! Some are over 50 years old, and work better than new jars...) ![]()
I've been away a lot lately, but-- HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! ![]()
Still miss you, Dear Molly!!! ![]()
Today's rant......
Why is it that such a beautiful sleeping child can be such a monster when he's awake??? I took the trash out which was a few minute process and came back into the house to a flooded kitchen floor; soaked refrigerator, countertops (yes, plural), ceiling and child; and a cat sitting close to his food bowl yeowling because his fresh food was now swimming......I have mopped, cussed, spanked, cussed, punished, cussed, looked at the ceiling, cussed.....You get the picture. I was so mad that after I swatted his bottom and legs I made him sit on a big pillow in front of the TV and NOT MOVE. The not moving is really the torture, trust me. He's not even still when he sleeps. I am really hoping that we don't have to paint the ceiling because this house has the tiny little sparkles in the ceiling and once we start we will have to do all the rooms. I am afraid that the center island cabinets (where the sink and faucets are) are pretty much history. They were already damaged because there was a water leak and I think that this may finish them on off. I really wanted a new dishwasher and disposal before cabinets. I will have to watch the floor, too. This all came about because daddy had to replace the faucet yesterday and let him test the new sprayer. He took his stool into the kitchen, turned on the water and let loose with the sprayer.
How can I stop binging after 6 o'clock?
