MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)

Quote  |  Reply

RANTING BURNS CALORIES!

This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...

* * *

I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.

I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....

I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!

Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?

Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:

1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.

AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

Where's that 409?
I called the Incontinence Hotline today...

Jon answered and said, "Could you please hold?"
HILARIOUS H.P.

The keys have been found. For some inexplicable reason, they were hiding in the pantry, next to the cereal. (Hmmm... maybe they wanted more fiber?)

LOL -

Reminds me a of a traffic incident we had here a few years ago - a septic pumper tank truck containing you know what was driving down the highway.  Something broke and the contents went all over the road.  The driver was charged with...

Failing to contain his load.  I am not kidding.

Ok I went and got Bulgur so now I need to find out what to do with it Laughing wish me luck.
dances - when we moved a few years back, we lost our kitty too.  We had her in a bathroom and someone opened the door.  We looked EVERYWHERE, walked around the old neighborhood a million times, called, offered food.  No dice.  Disappointed, we went to bed in our new home (just a few blocks away).  Only then did we hear the scratching under our mattress ... kitty had hidden INSIDE the box springs throughout the entire move ... the movers moved her and didn't even notice ... and she refused to get out for two days after!

Rant - hydrogenated vegetable oil and high fructose corn syrup.  They are everywhere!!! I don't have time to cook every single night - and even supposedly "healthy" and "diet" foods have them!  Ack!  I feel like I need to move to a Montana and live off the land if I want to be "healthy".

OOOO .... best of luck!  I like to cook it in my rice cooker with beef or chicken bouillon and some minced onion/garlic. Sometimes I eat it hot, like rice pilaf ... and sometimes I eat it cold in a tabouli salad!

I love bulgur. Pretty much anything you can do with rice, you can do with bulgur.

Yup. I found some in the ingredient list for Curves snack bars ... I didn't check their cereal, but I am suspicious. That's why I've been opting for more organic foods ... or at least reading labels.

Molly,Those ideas sound really good I look forward to trying my bulgur out.

Well Yesterday was a total flop! went over with the snacks so today I am going to watch everything I eat!

Rant, I hate when you are between sizes! I have 16s that are way too baggy on me and 14s that are so tight on me I have to lay down to get them on!!!!!! ugh!!!

Fellow Ranters ....

I will be gone Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday on vacation with my wonderful DH, Ron and .... (drumroll, please) .... I am NOT logging food and I am NOT counting calories! (YAY! YAY! YAY!)  Actually, that sounds pretty scary for me, to be honest. When I am obsessively counting and analyzing and logging, I know just where I stand, nutritionwise and eating-wise, and for the next three days I will just be taking things on faith. EEEEK. That sounds so .... so.... scary. Like being sent off without training wheels on my bike!

I went "treasure hunting" at the mall this evening and found some nifty items on clearance! Woo hoo! (What can I say? I just love super-uber-bargain-sales!) I picked up two tank tops for $3.00 each (one hot pink one, one white with a fun lace ruffle) ... which will be nice to layer under clothes and for spring. I also bought a cute pair of green shorts for $2.00 ... which I thought were pretty cute. I also bought fuzzy light blue pajama bottoms with black and white snowmen over them that I plan to wear OUT IN PUBLIC ... with a big blue sweatshirt! My DH laughed at me and called me his "hip homegirl!" LOL. (Look! A 40-year-old woman happily lounging at the mall in her pj's like all the teenagers!)  Anyway, I had a blast... and we didn't spend very much money.

You know what's nice about dieting? Clothes shopping is fun again. (happy sigh)

Well, we're all packed ... we leave bright and early Monday morning and I'm sooo looking forward to it.

Happy ranting (and keep eating healthy!) See y'all Wednesday night or Thursday!

I love this!

I've got alot of time, so this will be great for a few laughs!

Here's a rant regarding clothes, since we're on that subject.

Why to manufacturers and stores charge plus size women a penalty?  In addition to the ignominy of having to be in a "special" department, we have to pay more for the same item.  Now, I understand that more cloth is used, etc., but if that's the reasoning, why don't they charge less for petite sizes?  And why do men not have to pay the same penalty?  (Notice that XXL men's clothes are right there with the "regular" men's clothes).

That rant felt good!  And, according to Molly, used some calories!

Happy Monday, eveyone!

Yesterday I mentioned I'd been craving ice cream, and we discussed the pros and cons of allowing oneself a small taste vs. denial (more rightfully, I should "surrender"). So early last evening, he says, "let's go out for a treat."

We drove past 3 of our usual spots for ice cream, only to find them closed. So he opted to stop at the store to buy some. He comes out from the store empty handed, and I'm thinking this is a good sign. But no, he's coming out for more money, as he only had $3 in his pocket (and he'd invited me out with only $3???). Finally he comes out from the store announcing he'd bought Peanut Butter (I'm not fond of peanut butter, but figured I could eat around it) because it was the only one without chocolate, or just plain vanilla (which is what I'd asked for, just plain).

Well, we get home, settle in front of the TV and I go to portion out the treat...only to find it was Light Chocolate Peanut Butter!!!Needless to say, I had NONE!!

I got the message God...I wasn't supposed to have any ice cream!! Now, why is it God, that you have relieved me of the obsession for chocolate, by the gift of your Grace, but not all the other stuff I crave??? Why can I easily pass up chocolate, but nothing else??

Hi chemi!!!

 Welcome!!! Laughing

pattikins- That's some GOOD points! As a petite, I know you're right! I never got a discount, lol! Surprised

lol! We posted together! Love the aka- grandma sue! Laughing
Along the clothing lines, it has always bothered me that my bras cost more because I am a D cup!
Bras!  Now you've got me started!  I am, erm, well endowed.  According to Rigby & Peller I'm a 36 (yeay) H (I said well endowed, right?).  According to M&S I'm a 40/42 F.  Huh???  Now, R&P bras come in at about 65 BRITISH pounds per bra.  Yup, that's right.  M&S on the other hand?  Anywhere from 16 to 30, I'm guessing.  But of course, M&S bras don't fit me and give no support.  Once you've been to R&P you're ruined for all other shops, permanently.  So, I needed new bras last weekend cos I've got smaller (yippee) and spent over 200 pounds on 3 bras and one pair of knickers.  I was prepared to compromise and buy cheaper bras for the duration of my weightloss but it turns out I can't!  I'm going to be SO broke when I reach goal weight!  Someone else will have to buy me clothes cos I'll have spent everything on bras :-(

See what you've started now, enerygirl? ;-)

The holidays are going to be tougher than I thought.  Sunday was one event after another...most with cute little mayonnaizy sandwiches and cookies out the wazoo! No time in between for regular meals either. It's really hard to resist when you're actually hungry not just tempted by pretty food.

As I thought over the whole mess as I went to bed, I told myself not to fret it too much--I'm sure I didn't go over by enough to gain a pound. However, a few more days like that and I'll just be another holiday statistic...
