MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)
RANTING BURNS CALORIES!
This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...
* * *
I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.
I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....
I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!
Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?
Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:
1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.
AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

Molly & XO, this is what I was ranting about a week or two ago.... It is the universal dieting woman's rant, it seems! (In Molly-speak would that be UDWR?)
And if we rant about it hard enough, could we burn enough calories to catch up to our DH's totally effortless weightloss? I wonder. ![]()

Oh, I am having such a hard time staying motivated to exercise when it is too cold or dark to get out & walk. I don't really like the exercise bike, but it's my easy, no brainer exercise for the winter. Blah.
Someone help me! I really need to stay on track for health issues!

Did you know that shivering burns calories? Just sayin'. Can you do something that will make the exercise bike more fun? Watch a movie only when you use it? Chat on the phone with a friend? Watch scantily-clad US marines do calishthenics?
heh heh heh.
OK, I'm not much help here. But YOU CAN DO IT!
=^..^= MOLLY
You know he likes birch trees and I like beech trees.
Birch trees are skinny Beech trees are thick. Interesting!
I also like elephants. haha
Pattikins: Lets all get our calorie burning forces together and create an uber burning machine! I turn up my workout music on my computer and clean the house or pick a house project and work on it.
Meganr: How funny! So now you are celebrating 5 lbs later haha. Well, at least you are WAY further along than you thought. Men = Beavis'
Danceswithforks: Where'd you move to? I recently moved as well. I think it's that with their fast metabolisms and ability to lose quickly, if they eat what we're eating, well, then they get the benefit of both in the end...
Danagrl372: LOL!!! Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read your whole post. I would have spewed all over my screen. Mmmmm... fries.. hahahah!!!
Well, my wonderful DH is 5'9" and weighs about 190. I am 5'8.5 and weigh 307.6. I'd settle for just outweighing him by JUST 60 pounds, ya know?
But, the wonderful thing is, he loves me as I am ... and he married me when I weighed about 340 ... and never once has said anything negative or critical about me or my weight or my appearance. In fact, he's been nothing but encouraging, supportive, loving and wonderful through all 4.5 years of our marriage.
(And I am now thinking about fries .... sigh!)

Thanks for the responses~ Maybe a new piece of equipment would spur me on? I don't know. I like the music idea, (not the housework!
) don't know why I usually watch the tv when I'm on the bike, but we're getting an HD tv for that room for our joint Christmas present, so at least it'll be better to watch... I've been hanging out at approximately the same weight for about a week now -- my green trend line is looking a bit flat, and I'm sure it's because of the lack of exercise. So my mission this weekend is to break through and get some good moving in. (Do you think if I move enough I can have fries?)
Yes I too can sympathize with DH losing without trying! So not fair! we have to do the child bearing, the menstrual cycles, the menopause. All the joys of being a women and to top it off they lose weight so much faster and easier then us! WHY WHY WHY!!!Ok I hope I burned a few calories there .
Sooo, I have been doing really good the past few weeks eating new food I thought I'd never put past these lips and thought my sister was wacko and went over the deep end for eating them. I now find myself eating bulgur and tofu!!!! when my Sister found out she about laid an elephant!! lol and the worst part is I only lose ONE stinking pound a week!!!!! ok love that I'm losing I do! Buuuut why with all the work that I am putting into it I only get one pound a week? so not fair! now if DH were to try it he'd have lost 30 pounds!! I just know it! The turd! lol oh well the joyful life of being a women.
My DH has been watching and following my example, and after our lengthy "I'm worried about your health" conversation, he announced this AM that he's down 10 lbs! I couldn't be happier!! I don't even care if he loses faster...as long as he get heathier!
Rant: Weather predictions that scare people into grocery and hardware stores to clean off the shelves before I get there!!! And, the predicted "Nor'easter" could also scare off my two friends from making the trip up to Buffalo for the group Christmas gathering this weekend!! Boo hoo hoo!!!!

hi, I am new... 66 last week and want to lose 20-25 lbs. My doctor is totally satisfied with my weight, but, I can only walk about a kilometer at a time, and just 2 years ago I could walk 5 or 6 without breaking a sweat. I also have COPD (the new word for Emphasema) ![]()
When I think back. I probably had that for years, but didn't realize how bad when I was underweight, which I was most of my life. How did I get from there to here? I guess it started when I quit being a doormat, and got worse (the weight gain) when I quit smoking after breaking my foot. In a cast, I couldn't exercise, and since I had never been a lb overweight in my life, didn't realize just how much I needed to be able to do that. Anyway... here I am 6 yrs later, almost 50 lbs more (which is 1/2 my old body weight) and minus my best friend. (another sad
story)
I decided last week to get busy working instead of just wishing, and searching the web for a decent calorie counter, after hours found this one.
You sound like a lot of fun Molly, and we share several things. Love of animals, art, and age.. hmmmm.... a triple A friendship perhaps?
Anyway, for now, I am doing ok, but too soon to tell if this method is working for me. For sure, I will have to get off my butt more, but some of that will have to wait until after Christmas because for one, the weather is not fit for man or beast, and secondly, I haven't any time for the next week or so.
I would love some buddies, so if anyone has some time.. please add me, and mentor my methods, if you will.
thanks Fran

"BUBBLE & SQUEAK" is an old English dish, named for the sounds the ingredients make while cooking (or from the sound one's stomach makes after eating it)! Some sources say it was originally cold boiled beef and chopped cabbage, others claim it was originally mashed potatoes and cabbage, while some claim it originally contained all three. Today it is typically made from leftover potatoes and cabbage fried together. And, in my case, it uses yesterday's leftover ground turkey (with onions and peppers), plus some new potatoes and shredded cabbage -- and just a dash of worcestershire sauce -- all sauteed/fried together in the electric frying pan.
Lunch today was fresh green beans, a crisp n' crunchy apple, and a grilled chicken spinach salad with tomatoes and a hardboiled egg white, plenty of chili powder and some Walden Farms bacon-ranch dressing.... spicy and delightful! We also went to the regular grocery store and Trader Joe's and restocked a bit ... lots of fresh veggies, grilled chicken, dill pickles, turkey, and a HUGE supply of Progresso Light soups (just 120 calories a can!) As canned soups go, they are definitely my favorite, and are a great addition to winter-time snacks, lunches and dinners! (Plus they are all vegetable soups, so you get your veggies!)

one serving of ground turkey breast, seasoned (210 calories)
1/4 red bell pepper ( 11 calories)
1/4 cup grilled yellow onions (17 calories)
