MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)
RANTING BURNS CALORIES!
This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...
* * *
I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.
I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....
I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!
Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?
Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:
1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.
AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

Ranting about the mighty news and the weather reports???
How about this--I live in Wisconsin and whenever we get snow, it is like "storm team (whatever channel) alert", or "weather deck alert"---I mean come on, we live in WISCONSIN---we get snow. And then all the stupid reports on driving, go slow, pack extra blankets, watch out for plows,,,ECT. Once again people WISCONISN!!! Thats like saying--beware its going to be warm (when you live in Flordia!!!) If you all know that saying (Wisconsin people) Wait 10 minutes and the weather can change!!! We've had around 28 inches so far this month with another big storm coming this weekend---I sure it will be breaking news!!!!!!
Thanks for letting me rant!!!
Merry Christmas All!!!!!
Ummm..... hee hee heee. So you're saying that it SNOWS in WISCONSIN?
::giggles:: (and ducks before being pelted with a snowball!)

Original Post by krismasself:Rant for the day: Why, oh why, do we feel the only way to celebrate is to feed people???
Hmmm.... I don't know. Personally, I'd rather celebrate by shopping or redecorating or convincing people to stop wearing off-color spandex in horizontal stripes ... but somehow it just seems more "socially acceptable" to hand them a carbohydrate.
What I'd like to see is more emphasis on protein, lol! I can just see it now ... Happy Birthday, I roasted you some pork! Congratulations, here is some yummy cottage cheese. Bon Voyage, we baked you some skinless chicken breasts in a garlic-lime marinade.
It could work ... maybe in AtkinsLand. (grin)

Warning...the following is not a rant...you have been warned...
I have officially moved from the "obese" category to the "overweight" category!!! That may seem like a silly thing to be excited about, but I have been obese for the last 9 years of my life (and I'm only 23), so this is a major accomplishment for me. Molly, thanks for the inspiration.
Ahhh... that's the absolutely BESTEST non-rant we've heard all day! WOOO HOOO for YOUUUUUUU! (*hands over some lean protein to celebrate*) You should be very, very, very, very, very, very VERY proud of yourself (and we are all very, very, very, very, very proud of you!!!!)
(((hug and excited squeal!)))

Original Post by fransen:Molly, your Corey sounds a lot like my Bichon, Abby. She will sit there with her legs crossed tight looking out, and refuses to go out, unless I take her out and carry an umbrella. Then if she needs to do her business she expects me to follow her 'round and 'round until she finds just the perfect spot and pose.
I had to hide that bone for tomorrow mom. pic 1
Please Mom, another Beggin Strip pic 2
Change of topic.... Molly, I see your mention of Red Pepper hummus. Could I get the recipe for it. I am always looking for something for my snacks. I love regular hummus, but I am afraid it will get boring before I get to the end of this.
Fransen - I live in Canada too (Ontario) and get Summer Fresh brand of Red Pepper Hummous and President's Choice Red Pepper Dip (both great tasting) from a Loblaws affiliate (Fortino's here in my neck of the woods). Hopefully you have a Loblaws or affiliate in your area too. Both are worth trying. Summer Fresh also has lots of other flavoured hummous to try.
Love the pics of Corey - have two dogs myself, one a black border collie/blue heeler (Australian cattle dog) mix and the other a white border collie with a beautiful half black face - with one eye white eyelashes and the other black. So cute and so bad. They are our girls ... our two legged adult kids are boys.
Ok, Molly, you need to use your influence to add ranting to the activity log list. It's not on there.
I can see it now.........
Ranting, mild; groaning, grimacing, website posting only ---- 10 cal/min
Ranting, active; arms waving, face red --- 20 cal/min
Ranting, moderate; vocal, standing, arms waving, sweat on forehead --- 30 cal/min
Ranting, exuberant; expletives used, shouting -- 50 cal/min
Ranting, ultimate; expletives, sweat, throwing food, laughing madly --- 100 cal/min
What do you think?
I like it!!!

Thanks Brock, LOL...and the rest... thanks too, BUT... in Canada we don't have the same stores... no Trader's, no Bon Marche, no Tiffany's... ha ha... Actually, I thought it was most likely a home made recipe, but if not, then I will forego. The store prepared ones are usualy twice the price, and I am not a rich widow... just a poor one.
Sorry Molly! I wondered when I wrote about Buckeyes if other people from other states would know what they were. Buckeyes are these wonderfully delicious peanut butter and chocolate candies that look like the buckeye off of a buckeye tree.
Now that you have mentioned the eye of a buck, we had one of the teen girls last night decide she would put the buckeye up to her eye for a picture...quite humorous...she ended up with chocolate all over her eye so she did it to the other one too. I love being a youth pastor there is always something to laugh at. If I knew how to give a link to the pic I would do it but I need someone to explain how in the world I do that. I have a couple from lastnight that everyone might get a laugh out of.
picture of a buckeye as an eyeball and of another girl wearing her gift from my DH
Ahhh ... buckeyes are cookies.
"The Ohio State Cookies" -- I like that; is has a nice ring to it! ![]()

Lurking CERTAINLY burns calories...IF you lurk around Molly's huge thread!!! ![]()
I don't think it's really quiet though...laughing and snorting and giggling and falling due to uncontrollable hysterics, can get noisy!!!! ![]()

But...!
Those all burn calories, too, don't they, Molly??? ![]()

not a cookie, candy.... and tastes like a Reese's Peanut Butter cup....mmmmmmmm
now I want to rant about wanting another buckeye!!
For more up to date coverage on the weather in So Cal.... It's drizzling a bit. I was at Trader's tonight and the check out girl told us to be careful in the rain. Just so you know, it's not raining, it's drizzling. :)
I'm off to obsess about Buckeyes (the candy/cookie, not the seed from the tree).
After obsessing about buckeyes (the seed from the tree ... not the candy/cookie), I decided to try an experiment.
Take one toasted Thomas' light multigrain english muffin (100 calories)
On one side, spread 2 tbs of Walden Farms zero-calorie peanut spread.
On the other side, spread 2 tbs of Walden Farms zero-calorie chocolate dip.
OH .... MY ..... GOSH!!!!!
>>> THUD! <<<<
* falls over in a giggling, toe-wiggling, gleeful heap after enjoying peanut butter choclately goodness for the first time since August! *

Really? Are those calorie-free spreads good? Can you get them at Safeway? At DeLanos? Isn't there a peanut butter with 36 calories a serving I heard about on these forums?
Anyway, I think lurking burns calories because it is time spent (presumably) not eating. You know what the great thing is about reading the posts and all? It's so motivating. I anticipate losing weight for all this lurking.

You can buy them online HERE. They aren't bad. They aren't fabulous, but they are wonderful if you're watching every calorie. The caramel dip is to die-for-wonderful drizzled on apple slices, and their peanut spread isn't peanut butter by a long shot, but I like it on toast or toasted english muffins with Walden Farms zero-calorie fruit spreads. It's your basic fake diet tasting sweet stuff, ya know? (I am diabetic, so I can't have the real thing of sweet things, anyway!)
And I love their salad dressings (which they sell in individual serving packs ... great for work, school, travel and restaurants!)
A few of their products are sold locally in my home town only at one local store. Otherwise, buy 'em direct or through Amazon.com (but the Amazon shipping is higher)
Some people also like the powdered peanut butter called PB2 (only available online ... just Google it) or Bettern' Peanut Butter (which you can buy at Trader Joe's ... and probably online!)

Happy First Day of Winter, fellow ranters!

Were you on deck watching duty again? You posted really late (or early, depending on your perspective)!
My rant - I leave this board alone for 5 minutes and PAGES of rants appear! ;-) Welcome to all the lurkers that finally came forward - you've joined the best thread on this website :-D
I'm off to my parents' for the festivities tomorrow so probably won't post much until the New Year (as getting my sister off the computer will not be worth losing my life over). I'm also going skiing in France from the 30th so please keep your fingers crossed I don't break anything as this is the first time I've tried it in 20 years!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR - KEEP UP THE RANTING FOLKS!
