MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)

Quote  |  Reply

RANTING BURNS CALORIES!

This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...

* * *

I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.

I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....

I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!

Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?

Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:

1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.

AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

I LOVE cucumbers and tomatoes and goat cheese - yummy!!!!  Goat cheese is lower calorie and lower fat - sooooo good!  Drizzle a smidge of balsamic vinegar and enjoy!  Add walnuts and it is heaven!  I am sure this is what the angels eat.

Nope.  Ranting burns more calories then just talking!

Maybe we all are full of happy Christmas endorphins?

I confess!  I was not good at Christmas dinner!  I did pretty well up till desert.  Veggies, fruit, ~ 4oz of ham, small scoop of potatoes and sweet potatoes and one small cornmeal muffin (homemade, not giganto storebought).  Desert is, COOKIES!  Homemade cookies and I have issues, but not at my house.  My house, I know they are there, but I ration, someone elses house, I have to try different kinds.  So, I had mint chocolate chip ice cream with coconut, a small piece of shofly cake and about 4.5 cookies.  (it's only 4.5 b/c I discovered that the one chocolate cookie that looked really good had peanut butter filling)  Bleach.  I know I'm in the minority, but I don't like the combination of peanut butter and chocolate.  But, on the plus side, I didn't over eat by huge quantities, I was comfortably full!

* stomps in and announces huffily that her evil scale has been FLUNG into the swimming pool where it now rests peacefully at the bottom midst assorted sunken leaves *

(Note... USWIDS (unofficial sneaky weigh in days can be a dangerous thing when one's TOM is due to start any moment and the foolish scale dares to show water retention.)

FRIDAY FOLLIES ... TUNA n' TURKEY n' TOMATOES

One of the things that we did yesterday (Thursday) was go treasure hunting at the Clearance racks of some of my favorite stores. At one store, I found a great pair of casual knit pants in a dark aqua blue for just $9!!! They will be great this spring (and I got them in a size that should work for me for the next 3-4 months!) At another store, I found three tops ... a cute blue linen vertical striped tank top ($7), a pretty ribbed white t-shirt with lace ($7), and a hot pink mock neck sweater ($7!) Finally, in a third store I snatched up 2 pairs of festive undies (hot pink with white polka dots and lime green stripes), plus a light pink camisole ... all on clearance!

And I still have a $25 Amazon.com gift card to spend, plus a friend just gave us a $25 Applebee's Gift card (which we'll save for January!) Did I mention that we were able to successfully sell my nifty raspberry-colored trike that my wonderful DH bought me in September? (And replaced with a bike in December?) We'd listed on Craigslist for $200 (we'd spent close to $350 on the bike plus all the accessories, but once it's "used" the price goes down a lot) and somebody bought it! Not only that, when he came to check it out in person and saw it was so nice, he insisted on paying us $260 for it ... yep, $60 more than our asking price. All things considered, I thought that was a pretty cool thing!

My wonderful DH and I have some errands to run on Friday, and so I decided to survey my vegetable supply and plan my menu for the day ... especially after the fiasco of yesterday's menu! (EEEK!) Anyway, after a nice and normal breakfast will be a pretty traditional lunch of tuna on an english muffin, with a fresh artichoke, and a cucumber and tomato salad. For dinner, we're grilling some onions and lean ground turkey breast (and we'll save 1/2 for tomorrow night's dinner) ... which I will serve in a roasted acorn squash half. Accompanying my yummy turkey-onion combo will be fresh green beans, LOTS of fresh broccoli, and 7 Laughing Cow Light Gourmet Cheese Bites (which I plan to melt decadently over my green beans!) Doesn't that sound just delightful? And 12 servings of veggies for the day!

Ground turkey with onions is one of those great meal-time basics that make 2-day planning so much easier, especially since we end up cooking up 4 servings (2 nights for 2 people) at one time. In our case, we sprinkle on a little taco seasoning, garlic and chili powder for a wee bit of kick! Tonight, it gets served fresh and hot in a roasted acorn squash. Tomorrow night, we're adding it to a can of organic spicy vegetarian chili .... which my DH will probably eat over Fritos while I eat it with a mountain of vegetables! And the flavors from the two nights will be completely different, too! (And so will the fresh veggies!) By the way, one serving of lean ground turkey meat is just 150 calories ... and about 30g of protein! It also goes really well in the organic spicy sicilian pasta sauce I use, and I've even used it with Eggbeaters for a yummy scramble. (Keep in mind that ground turkey MEAT is higher in fat/calories than ground turkey BREAST, so read labels carefully if this matters to you!)

Non Rant Alert!  I was clearing out my email and found this goodie from my mom.... I do have to admit, I've never tried kibble, but my brother did and he couldn't figure out what got the cats so excited about it.Tongue out

I used to have a kitty cat & was buying a large bag of kitty kibble at Wal-Mart, waiting in the check-out line. A woman behind me asked if I had a cat. On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting the Kibble Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time. But, I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Kibble nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry, as the food is nutritionally complete. So, I was going to try it again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story, especially a tall heavy man behind her.
Horrified, she asked if I'd been poisoned. I told her no; I'd been sitting in a tree licking myself and had fallen out.  The tall guy nearly had to stagger out of the store, oxygen-depleted from laughter.  I paid for the food and left a lot of smiles behind me.

Molly, feel free to come and cook for me anytime!  Your meals are always so interesting!
I agree Rose.  I see a Bright Future for *Molly*Meals*
I think she could sell them like the frozen healthy "Amy" meals.
You heard it here first.

Oh rose_gil, I love that story!!!LOL!!!

It sure does point out what outlandish means we'll try to solve our weight problems, doesn't it? And how everyone is asking "How'd you lose weight?" so they can try that method! Some folks are so easily convinced to try something totally unreasonable simply because they are desperate to lose weight! No wonder the "Weight Loss Business' is a multi-million profit business!!

Oh, and Molly, today was my day for diet fiasco...I had popcorn & pretzels for lunch!!! Ugh!!And all because things aren't going well in the office and a vendor popped in with Holiday treat box....duh!!!

For the record, cat food is better tasting that dog food.

Just sayin' ....

According to my mom, my very first words were Kitty Kitty Kitty, followed by "NO!" ... and mama and dada were weeks and weeks later!

My scale is still in solitary confinement, and I can hear it whimpering in the closet. It may not get paroled until 2008.

=^..^= MOLLY

OK, I trimmed my toenails, shaved my legs AND got my hair trimmed ... and the scale didn't budge.... even after I exhaled so hard I practically passed out!

LOL!

Hmmm... maybe I should take another tact and start being NICER to the scale?

*Looks in phone book for scale sweaters*

I just have to make a comment on the "ranting to yourself" thing...

I have a belief that its ok to talk to yourself, its ok to argue with yourself...however if you ever LOSE an argument to yourself than seek help.

I believe the same would be true for ranting.
