MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more)

Quote  |  Reply

RANTING BURNS CALORIES!

This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...

* * *

I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.

I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....

I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!

Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?

Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:

1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.

AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

Consider a sparkly "Bling Scale," Molly??? Surprised

Somehow I can see you with one like that!!! Really fixed special!!! Wink

Hmmm ...maybe I just need to DECORATE my scale, not DECIMATE it.

After all, there's a fine line between style and ... murder.

(grin)

Molly if I thought getting my haircut would make enough of a difference I would get mine cut...lol

Happy Saturday.

My weight loss for this week was an impressive.... zero. Yup.... not even an ounce lost. And I got on the scale 11 times. (Poor scale ... I think I heard it mutter "ouch" at least once!)

So much for my 1000 calorie per day deficit, huh?  And, no, my metabolism hasn't slowed down ... I check my heart rate and blood sugars constantly, and if my metabolism slows my blood sugars stay sky-high .... and they haven't been high. (One of the joys of being diabetic, I suppose, is being able to monitor things like this 6 times a day.)  This is my first week in 19 weeks with no weight loss... and my period is now officially two days late. (Nope, I'm not preggers ... one of us is fixed.) And I must candidly admit that I'm grouchy. Grrrrr.  I think my body just likes being 301.4 pounds (heaven knows why!) ... and so it wanted to stay here for two weeks. Oh well, I suppose it's better at 301.4 than where I started at 369 .... but I still am tempted to drop kick that scale through the goal posts of life. (Do you remember that annoying country-western song?)

Anyway, DH has now (once again) taken away the scale again ... so only he knows when my next weigh-in will be. He mentioned March, but I think I can bat my eyes at him enough to let me have a once a month weigh-in, maybe. He thinks that I am getting too focused on the scale (yet again) and that I should take a break from obsessing about the scale and switch my focus to obsessing about something else. I've got the obsessing-about-nutrition-and-fiber thing down pretty well, so perhaps I will have to start obsessing about my hair. Or my yard. Or the Iowa caucuses. Or if I will get that job interview in January. Or what I will wear to that interview.

I can't decide if I'm indecisive ... or not.  (grin)

I actually got 2 inches cut off my hair yesterday, and it STILL didn't impact the scale!!!  Oh well .... at least my hair looks a lot tidier, it was getting a bit scraggly for my taste. (I have short, naturally curly-wavy auburn hair ... so getting 2 inches trimmed off the top and 1 inch off the sides and back actually doesn't make much of a difference, but it always makes me feel better.)

how do you do to all of you. I hope you all are having a good weekend so far and to all a Happy new year!!Wink

Hi Preacherboy!

Molly, you have been losing weight so fast, your body just needed to take a breather before embarking on the next big downhill slide!  -- envisioning the pounds sliding down a big snowy hill --  Laughing

For anyone who is interested, I posted a detailed "grocery list" of all the usual foods that I eat ... in my journal! (I get a lot of PMs requesting this information, so thought I would just write it all down in one place!)

I am preparing to transition from care free living and eating habbits to a diet and exercise program that will not only allow me to lose weight but also I will be healthier and happier and hopefully have more energy and spunk. I'm not sure that I will be able to be as devoted and dedicated to this calorie thing as 4 sq is but I'm going to give it a try. In the past most of the time I have just tried to reduce my portions a little and add some exercise wich usually consisted of weight training or something similar. This time I want to watch not only my calories, but my protein and carbs too and all the rest that I need, under the coaching of 4sq I should be ok, I just hope she doesn't hammer me too hard at the beginning. I spent time in the military so I do know about diet and exercise but it's been a while, and I'm really comfy with my chips, pop, cake and cookies at night. It WILL be tough........ but nothing comes easy in life...right?... oh well enough of my babbling, I'm just glad you are all here and I look forward to the future weight loss with yallSmile.

Welcome!  May I make a suggestion? Save 200-250 calories for after-dinner snacking!

For sweet snacks: sugar free jello (10 calories), sugar free popsicles (15 calories), sugar free pudding (60 calories), one medium apple-sliced (72 calories), one cup of raspberries (64 calories), one cup of blueberries (85 calories), Worldwide Protein Shake (100 calories).  Diet Swiss Miss hot chocolate is 25 calories, and there are all sorts of sugar free beverages out there!

For crunchy snacks: I make up a HUGE plate of fresh veggies, well-seasoned with vinegar and lemon juice and seasonings ... cherry tomatoes (27 calories), a cup of sliced radishes (19 calories) a medium cucumber, sliced (24 calories), dill pickle spears (5 calories), Quaker Quakes mini rice cakes (10 for 70 calories), 100-calorie Smart Pop Mini Bags of microwave popcorn! I also love low sodium chicken bouillon with garlic powder and chili sauce!!!!

=^..^= MOLLY

ooooh, can i add my favorite tv snacks for night?

Vanilla pudding cup (fat free or not, depending on your calorie allotment) with fresh or thawed frozen raspberries, and a tablespoon or two of fat free or lite cool whip.  Put it in a nice dish  -- You will think you have gone straight to a fancy restaurant, and you're getting fiber & vitamins too!  (On really good nights, my DH makes this and brings me my treat!)

Also, Skinny Cow ice cream cones or fudgebars.  Also delicious!

Can you tell I have a sweets addiction?  I try to save up my cravings & satisfy them with this kind of treat at night.  It feels totally indulgent, too!

Molly, I like your crunchy snack mix.  I'm a salty snack lover.  Do you pre-mix this and keep it on hand for snack attacks?  If so, how long will it keep?

When I buy radishes (4-5 bunches at a time), I take them home, and get them all washed, off the greens, and sliced/cut up ... then I leave them in a bowl of cold water in the fridge. They will last in there for up to 6 days, but I dump the water and add new water every other day. Of course, no radish bowl has ever lasted 6 days in my house ... at 19 calories a cup I scoop some out ALL the time.

The cherry tomatoes (or grape tomatoes) I wash, dry, and return to their original container. When I want a cup full, I just measure 'em out. Sometimes I halve them, sometimes I don't.

Cucumbers are stacked like logs in the fridge. When I want one, I can have it peeled and sliced in about 2 minutes. (Practice makes perfect!)  Cucumbers can be peeled and sliced and stored in a leftover container for about 2-3 days before they get too rubbery/slimy ... but I prefer them crunchier.

Often I will prepare my snack veggies while I am making dinner, though, so they are good to go. I just fill the plate, spritz on some Wishbone salad sprizer, lemon pepper, garlic powder, maybe some lite salt or fake salt ... and eat them a few hours later!  Sometimes I add dill pickle spears, sliced up, for some saltiness! It's great ... and really replaces mindlessly eating chips or cookies or crackers or popcorn!

(Plus, what a simple way to get in your daily veggies!)

You could probably add baby carrots or celery, but those aren't my thing.

Hey, where did all these scales come from???

:: giggles ::

=^..^= MOLLY

I was going to suggest that you run a veggie boot-camp for those of us who are trying to lose weight and live healthy like you, but just can't seem to master getting all those veggies in every day.  But now I think maybe you could just run a boot-camp for our scales and teach 'em to straighten up and fly right!!

Seriously though, CONGRATULATIONS!  What an accomplishment, not just on weight lost but on perseverence. You are a true inspiration to keep on keepin on, and I'm so happy for you!

*inflates balloons* *hangs up streamers*  *starts music*
Congratulations, Molly! That's grrrrrrrrreat! :D You should be REALLY proud of yourself :)

Go Molly, Go Molly, Go Molly!

Congrats on getting to the 200's!!!  Way to go!
