Every morning when I eat cereal, I get out my measuring cup, and measure the amount of cereal I'm going to eat. This morning, my mom saw me, and she told me I was crazy, and asked if I was feeling all right..I told her that I felt great. Does anyone else do this, or am I really obsessed?
I do it religiously. Portion control is key to maintaining a healthy weight. My bf gives me hell about it too. Ah, family...
of course we do! how else would we log in the calories that we've eaten? i measure everything, even cream in my coffee. calories can sneak in if you don't really know what your eating!
i do it lol its healthy dont worry about it
I measure EVERYTHING! It's teaching us great portion control. Don't worry about it too much, it will all pay off in the end!
yesss I measure almost everything. Gosh who knows how much cereal/beans/rice/etc I would be eating if I didn't measure it.
You're not crazy! I like knowing how much I'm eating. I can eyeball most things now (cause I've been doing this awhile) and I have a cereal bowl that holds 1 cup with milk exactly so I don't have to measure anymore but I had to the first few times to know what I was eating. I'm more meticulous about my fats - ranch dressing, butter etc. because I want to make sure I'm not using too much. It's amazing how much dressing 2 tblsp really is!
ALWAYS.MEASURE.EVERYTHING! my motto! :) if you're crazy so are they rest of us...
Thank you, you guys! Even my sisters give me h*ll for counting calories, and measuring how much I take in.
I measure every cereal I eat. Along with the milk that goes in. Measuring it has allowed me to be able to memorize each cereals nutrition facts. Which is great! My friends think its wierd but I cant stand just eyeballing it.
the thing i cant stand is to watch someone putting together a recipe for say a cake or anything like that and they dont measure ANYTHING, they just guesstimate!! AH, there are directions and specific measurements for a reason. lol
I don't measure it exactly cause i don't have a food scale :(
But I am guessing, most of the time I am quite right.. I am measuring the amount of bread I cut(you can do by slicing it in your mind and knowing how much the whole bread weights), calculating how much cals that slice of ham has, and so on :D
On the other hand I stopped logging all the cals, I just think of the overall cals and since I am said to consume 2000 for losing weight at a healthy rate I can easily imagine how close I am to that boarder.

Yep I measure. I've just started measuring everything and realised that when I didn't measure foods, somethings I was logging too many calories and some too little. So yes the best way for me is to measure portions. Hopefully by the time I get to my goal weight I'll know what size portions to have without measuring.
May I suggest measuring water into dishes and remembering how much they hold so that when you use that dish, you know exactly how much it holds. It makes others not realize you are measuring, and thus not think you are "calorie obsessed". I have a few dishes with prints on them and I know that to the bottom of the first flower is a half cup, the 2nd 3/4cup etc... Yeah, sounds a little obsessive, but it also saves dirtying my measuring cups ;-)
I eat my cereal in the same bowl everyday..so I'm starting to realize where to stop pouring it in..I just did a few times to make sure I was right though..but with other things, I usually have to measure based on the packaging.
I started measuring everything, logging everything...
2 months on I know roughtly how much is how much, I know my potions and can guess how much is a portion.
Especially at first, yes measure, you're way out on portion sizes, it can really throw you....people just can't judge that well, first thing I learnt.
If you are still measuring out, and it's working for you...stick to it. If you start to feel comfortable with your own sense of what is enough go with that.
'obsessed' is a strong word, I'd hope your own judgement should kick in, after all it's as much about cutting down as training yourself what is a meal.

I also measure everything. I keep measuring cups, measuring spoons, and my scale right in the food "prep area." I have several sets of measuring spoons that I keep in a large cup by the stove. If one tablespoon is dirty or in the dishwasher, I always have a clean one! Ditto measuring cups. If you are counting calories in an effort to lose weight, you have to. Period. It is TOO easy to just dump an amount into your bowl and happily chow down. If you don't add in the calories for the extra 2+ servings you just ate, and you do this several times a day every day, you could potentially be looking at a serious overage. LOL. It's just too easy to overdo it with eyeball estimates until you get REALLY used to doing it or with certain things you eat frequently and just "know" how much is how much. I'm also an obsessive "measurer." I see no shame in it. Hehe.
I totally do this! I like granola cereals which are calorically dense relative to other cereals. If I didnt measure Id surely be eating much more and I wouldnt be able to log it properly. Not that I log everything.
My mom started measuring out food after she saw me do it. It drove her insane though, so she stopped. She has a better idea about portion control now though.
I measure and weigh everything. That way I know pretty much how many calories I am eating.
I Measure EVERYTHING......... I get called Crazy all the time but I know what I am putting in my body and how much..... so Don't worry what people call you..
