moments when you realized you've really changed your eating habits

Quote  |  Reply
i was eating breakfast at a restaurant with some friends this weekend and when the waiter took my order, i asked for egg beaters with a side of low fat cottage cheese. when he asked what kind of toast i wanted, i immediately said, "wheat. hold the butter."

after he left, i sort of sat there in shock. i didn't even think before ordering that. the old me would've ordered the biscuits and gravy, or the giant ham and cheese omelette.

what moments have you had where you realized, "wow. i'm really committed to this."?

Everytime I go to the grocery store! I put all my healthy food on the counter. I look at what the person has in front of me and what the person has behind me... and am so proud of my healthy choices. Even sometimes the check out lady comments on it!
When I just passed up delicious birthday cake cause my sandwich filled me up.  And when I have a tiny tiny carrot cake at home that is probably going to go bad because I'd rather spend the cals on a protein drink!
I went shopping with mystepdad the other day, and we always go to this store called "The bakery Outlet" for our bread, cause they have really good bread for great prices.

Anyways, this store also has stuff like candy and donuts and such. I didn't even think about asking if I could get a box of dots(one of my favorite candies). And when he got some donuts I didn't even want to ask for one ^_^
Mmmm donuts.  blue, I myself am a HUGE dots fan.  Dots, juji fruits, haribo gold bears....anything fruity and chewy.  I have to not have ANY of them cause I'll destroy a whole box if I do.  I haven't had a donut in...I can't even remember.  I don't but them, I don't eat them.  I love them...but I dont go near them.

Oh!  and blue, you're from ND?  I have family up there in Cooperstown, if you've ever heard of it.  I'm adding you!
When my family ordered pizza and I had only half a slice and a salad instead! ^^
When I go through McDonalds drive thru and order a salad or fruit & yogurt.
When I went to the fair and didn't eat anything deep fried or sweet.

I love dots too.
When I went to MCD with my mom, and she ordered a Big N' Tasty (my cue that I can cheat too) but I ordered a salad instead.  And the fact that I can walk through the candy isle and not get the urge to buy chocolate or laffy taffy.

Feels good doesn't it.
When I can't make myself have an unhealthy snack (like ice cream).
when I passed on a salad that was pre-tossed in dressing.. Even though it's still a salad the dressing can be a killer.. Another thing is when I sit and eat dinner with my boyfriend and kids.. I look at the food they are eating and it really doesnt bother me.. Unless they have bacon, then my mouth waters but I STILL pass on it..lol
My "cheat food" is ice cream that has "No Sugar Added".  The best part is, I love it.
When I went grocery shopping yesterday and picked up a contained of fairly low-cal pineapple cream cheese, just to try with my strawberries as a bit of a dip and as my treat for that shopping trip... and by the end of the trip, I had abandoned that little jar because I realized I actually didn't even want it.  I ended up with tomatoes, cucumbers, bananas, grapefruits, nonfat cottage cheese, high protein low cal pitas, nonfat sugar free yogurt cups, unsalted peanut butter, liquid egg whites, and luna bars.  No 'treats', because I realized I didn't even want any. =)
When I started feeling so good since eating healthy, I cut my kids off! I used to go ahead and let them eat treats now and then, but now our treats are watermelon or real fruit snacks. Healthy stuff. The great thing is they aren't even missing the junk!
I hear ya on the ice cream, satchel. I used to be a total ice cream junkie. I had it every day for a while. If I didn't get the cold stone creamery and get my cookie dough ice cream with sprinkles and hot fudge, I went to dairy queen and got a m&m blizzard. If that didn't work, I made a special trip to the 24-hour grocery store and bought a gallon and some hot fudge. So I bout the kemps fat-free no sugar added ice cream bars to wean myself off of the really bad stuff. I found those in the freezer a couple of nights ago, in the back. They were so old that they had freezer burn on the OUTSIDE of the box. I had to chuckle at myself.

Though, cold stone creamery does sound really good right now up here at 102 degrees in Minnesota....

*mental slap, "snap out of it woman!"*
This weekend was the first time we tried Coldstone Creamery. I ordered the Sinless Fat free - instead of trying anything else. Start out as you mean to go on...BTW it was pretty darn good.
When I  go to McD's and realize that I don't even want a burger anymore, or when I can't pick up  any  new item off the shelf at my local store without reading the label first. I used to just grab what ever was on sale  that looked good, now I am almost physically unable to pick up a food item without looking at the nutrition label and reading the ingredients. Kinda cool, but annoying when it takes you 20 minutes to pick out a bbq sauce, because the best priced ones all have High Fructose corn syrup in them.

I also find I'm full on a lot less food. The other day they had cake in the break room, instead of grabing a large piece like I used to, I cut one piece in half and only had that, and only after I had eaten something healthy and filling first.   I didnt' even think about it. radical change for me.
I like RED dots.  :)

I've had several of those moments, like when the guy offered me free freshly baked chocolate chip cookies at the coffee place, and I said no.  Or, when I had a sip of "regular' Arizona tea and literally spit it out because it was too dang sweet.  And, I suppose that's the case everytime I think, "mmm.  salad!" or "boca burgers rock!"

I have lots of those moments.  I even had the Fair moment.  I'd planned and adjusted calories for two days to have a treat, a candy apple, at the fair but they were out of the kind I like.  Instead of eating another kind or settling for some nice fried funnel cake or something on a stick, I just had a diet coke and went home satisfied.  Since I hadn't had a diet coke in 3 months, even it seemed like a treat!!  :D
When the smell of a krispy kreme donut made me gag.....
I hear you pamperedkeri2000. One of the managers brought Krispy Kremes to work a couple of weeks ago (for the office), and I didn't crave them at all.

I caught myself tonight thinking that I could have some chocolate ice cream to round out my day, and after having eaten something else (a PB&J on wheat bread with all-fruit instead of jelly or jam), I no longer wanted the ice cream.

The thought of a DQ Blizzard makes me positively ill (and a medium is 1,000 calories, don'cha know?). I don't even want Bruster's anymore--it's just too sweet.
tonight i went to the movies and turned down popcorn...buttery delicious popcorn. :( yea i still miss it hah.
