Ok, so I have been eating these monster apples.. they're like .77 kg when the woman at the sketchy fruit stand weighs them.
Can anyone tell me how many calories that might be?
Reason: Moved from WL to Foods
I don't really know if I would trust the scale she's using. If it's right, I'd worry about where those monster apples were coming from. (That's about 5 times bigger than a regular apple.) If the weight is right, then it would be about 400 calories.
Yes I would definitely weigh it myself. When you type in apple under the food log you can use the dropdown box to choose the "other" option which lets you type it's weight in for a proper cal. count.
oh my god, if they've been 400 calories I'm gonna freak out.
Lol, I eat monster apples too. xD I don't worry about the calories, though—I just put them in as a "large" apple—but it's okay because they're fruits. :) Hope I helped, lol!

LOL! You better just weigh one for yourself on a reliable food scale.
I dont have one yet.
So, just for the sake of my own inquiry, can someone roughly describe to me how big a "large" apple might look like?
The apples are just shy of the size of a soft ball.....
3 1/4" in diameter for a Large apple @110 cals
ok, sorry, but I'm on public transit. Is that the size of a soft ball?
Hold on, maybe I'll google
ok... 4.5 inches... and I've been logging them as 1.4-1.6 a large apple
I think I'm good
Whew.
thanks guys.

This will allow you to enter the weight of the apple. Enter 770 in the box next to the word "grams" (if the apple is .77 kg, since one kg = 1000 grams). I think that might be your most accurate estimate of caloric content.
And wow, those must really be monster apples!
I have found that a normal sized apple is larger than the "large" size on this site. most of the fruits and veggies that this site list as "large" are actually medium small. so i would go with 2 or 2.5 apples for a "monster" apple.
P.S. I just finished a normal sized apple that was 8.5 oz that is about 1.5 times that size of the sites "large apple".
I apologize for my next statement I am usually very factually, but I had to say it after reading all of these posts LOL.

also, the database - when you are choosing the amount - often says "x pieces per lb", co you might want to count from there
I just go by the following rule for an apple -
A large apple is half a pound in weight -110 calories. Half a pound is uh...220 gm?
Going by this, your .77 kg apple (I don't believe apples can be that big but ok...) would be about 385 calories ~ 400 calories approx.
I'm really surprised that no one is discussing the fiber content of such an apple. Apples aren't just sugar. If this is truly the Monster Apple at 400 calories, it's also providing half your daily fiber requirement. That's a lot!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
