2 months and no change...
its been at least two months since my diet began and the only change ive had is that i have too little energy to excersise most days and i sleep longer and worse. ive been getting nywhere from 8-12 hours of sleep on a normal night ( my usual used to be about 2-4) and i wake up exhausted and craving the pillow and sheets >.< i havent gone under the 1200 cal limit ( unless you count once or twice where i somehow managed to eat only about 900 cal, no idea how) and i rarely go over. i cheat with a little sugary treat every now and again but i apparenty should be losing at about 2 pounds a week, and so far i havent lost a single pound. my already low self esteem is getting crushed and most of my hope has decipated at this point. i just wish i knew what i was doing wrong because im really worried about anorexia ( those damned thoughts have entered my mind and im trying my hardest to convince myself that the cons outweigh the pros) i just dont want to feel horrible about my weight anymore, i would feel so much better if i just knew WHY my weight hasnt chnged at all. any suggestions?![]()
i think you might have an iron deficiency or a thyroid problem. check w/ your doctor.
Definately go see a doctor. My mom was gaining weight when she was only eating one meal a day and she was tired all the time... so off to the doctor she went and it turns out she had a low thyroid. Her doctor said that she was storing every possible calorie into fat because her thryoid was messed up.
Also your doctor can help you come up with a meal plan if your thyroid is ok. Maybe you need to be eating more than 1200 calories. Your body might be in starvation mode- when it starts breaking down muscle instead of fat just to survive because you're not eating enough. Wouldn't it be nice if your problem is that you're not eating enough? :)
btw you are supposed to be sleeping 8-10 hours a night. That's normal. 2-4 is unhealthy.
2-4 was usually all i needed to function normally, adhd and all. but now with 8-10 its affecting my schoolwork ( I.E pasing out in the middle of class, feeling faint, drifting off to lala land) and im getting really concerned because there doent seem to be any real reason why, it begn about a month ago and i havent got a clue why.
i think it is also possible that you are in starvation mode... are you pretty active throughout the day? how often/how much do you exercise?? 1200 cals is the absolute lowest you should go, but that doesn't mean it is enough for everybody. and 900 is definitely not enough. i would also say talk to your doctor and maybe see a nutritionist. i would say you need to up your intake at least a little bit.
well im fairly inactive because im sitting in a desk through most of the day, my adhd makes me hyper and therefore a bit more active then some students i suppose. and i just reread what i wrote and realized that i left out a big part of that sentence *rarely go over 1500 which is my reccomended*
I'm not sure what your goals are or how much exercise you are doing...but have you tried switching things up a little. I was having trouble and I stopped eating rice, potatoes, and pasta ( I have a slice of wheat toast with breakfast). I eat lots of fruit and veges and lean protiens (poultry, eggs, and fish; red meat once per week). Also, I have an all out cheat day once per week (always the same day). I can eat as much as I want of anything accept pasta, rice, and potatoes. Anyway, so far I have had some weight loss. It's not fast, but I'm ok with that.
Make sure you check how many calories your supossed to eat. Did you use the tools on the website? I usually only lose 1lb per week. Everyone is different. If your still dizzy or tired go see your dr. But don't get discouraged. Hope this helps.
With the symptoms you are describing of "feeling faint and passing out in class" I would strongly suggest you see your doctor for a check-up and some blood work. These are not normal signs of undereating if as you say you have been eating 1200 cals per day.
See your doctor and if the blood work and all checks out ok, then ask for a referral to a Dietitian to help you with your diet.
even though 1200 is the limit (more like a rough estimate) of what you absolutely need, 1200 may not be ENOUGH to produce a weight loss or the energy to function throughout the day. i wasnt losing weight at 1500 calories and everyone told me to eat a little more and i started losing weight at 1800 calories a day. Also, if all else fails, go check your thyroid and insulin levels.

also, you may be sleeping more and still feeling tired due to lack of food. your new diet may be making you have less energy even though you are sleeping more. this may sound weird, but try eating more fat and less sugar. sugar just makes you crash. eating more fat and protein and less sugars makes me feel really energized.
idk.. but did your add medication change? i just know add meds affect weight but usually because you are less hungry as a side effect so you can lose on the stimulant type because you eat less.
and a huge con to add and anorexia is that the doctor will take you off your stimulant. if your weight is too low (especially due to anorexia) the doctor will most likely not rx an amphetamine/stimulant.
good luck.
and the with symptoms you said.. if that is frequent you should tell the doctor. the passing out and feeling faint as well as the extra sleeping.
