2 months - haven't lost a pound!

Quote  |  Reply

I do believe that weight loss boils down to the "simple science" of energy-in vs. energy-out. So, I can't figure out how I am the exception to this!! Let me explain...

I'm 5'6", 134 pounds, 36 year old female.

The calculators say my basal metabolic rate is approx. 1400, which is about 1600 when factoring in basic-living-breathing functions.

OK, so far so good. If I want to lose a pound a week (almost), I should eat 1200 calories per day. But I do exercise 6 days a week, and typically run at a (daily) 2000 calorie burn on average. So, I'm eating about 1400 calories (sometimes 1450), but usually always preserving a 500 calorie deficit each day.

My weight goal is 122-125, and I've been with CC for 2 months. I should have, well, about 5 pounds gone *at least*, right?

Nope -- I'm the EXACT weight I was when I started!

Any thoughts / ideas / suggestions?

Thanks everyone!

How do your clothes fit? Sometimes people reduce their sizes and never lose a pound. This is caused by gaining muscle at the same time as losing fat and it kind of keeps you at the same weight. I'm not too sure though.
you're also well within the healthy BMI range for your height and age which means it'll be A LOT harder for you to lose weight.  the last 10 lbs for people are generally really difficult.

you could try mixing up your workout routine or increasing your calories.  those methods have seemed to work pretty well for people.  but like matt said--you may want to judge more by how your clothes fit and your body looks than by what the scale says.
Eat More.
Are you burning 2000 calories running? Or 2000 total daily? If the 2000 is in addition to your BMR, from what I understand from researching, and I'm by no means an expert, you should be eating more. If you need 1400 a day just to survive and you burn 2000 extra that day that totals 3400 calories burned, so you should be eating somewhere around 2900 calories for your 500 calorie a day deficit. You could be halting your metabolism by not feeding it enough. Someone please correct me if I'm misrepresenting facts here!!
Hi there!

Thanks for your responses! Here's a few more...

Unfortunately, my clothes don't show me any noticeable "leaning". They fit pretty much the same.

Also, flyteemom, sorry I wasn't clear, no, I'm not burning an *additional* 2000 calories by exercise, that is my total calorie burn per day on average. So, that's why I eat 1400-1450 a day to maintain a 500 deficit...

I certainly feel I'm eating enough. I just wonder if it isn't this mysterious "plateau" thing in combination with the fact that my body really doesn't want to give any more ground on losing... (given the generally healthy BMI at this point)...
