28 Pound in 2 months. it is healthy?
I've been dieting with calorie-count since August, I'm male, 19 years old. At the start i was 205, now i'm 177. I eat 1,300 calories daily, together with an extensive daily exercise routine, which includes 45 minutes of weight training and 75-90 minutes cardio. Am i doing right or do you have another opinion?
Thank u
You're really not eating enough. Males need a bare minimum of 1500 calories a day. On top of that, you're nineteen; your body is still growing and developing, meaning you need to eat more than that bare minimum. I think the recommendation for teenagers is at least 1800 calories. Moreover, you're exercising and burning away the few calories that you are eating.
How tall are you? Have you used the tools on this site to calculate how many calories you burn in a day?
By not eating adequately, you're not only setting yourself up for diet failure, but you're putting your health at risk as well. As it pertains to weight-loss, you'll probably find that it will slow down or come to a complete stop. You may find that you gain weight very easily or you maintain on less calories. This is because by eating too little, you're slowing down your metabolism. Not only that, but your body will not develop the way it was supposed to and when you don't eat enough, more and more muscle starts getting broken down. The heart is also a muscle, and the long-term effects of starvation (not eating enough) often include heart problems.
Simply put, eat more.
wow, 1300 seems really low, even in my standards and I'm a female. Everywhere on these forums they say that if you're a female, you shouldn't eat less than 1200 calories (it's the amount your organs need to function) and for men, it's 1500...so you're probably not eating enough. You're losing weight, but I have a feeling you'll hit a plateau and your body might get into starvation mode, in which case whenever you start eating more, you'll see a gain in your weight (but as long as you eat at least a healthy amount for a while, you should start losing again). Don't go under 1500, and you should think about putting your stats in the burn meter and start eating the suggested amount. Since you're a male, it shouldn't tell you to eat anything under 1500 a day (and make sure you keep the 'goal date' blank or it'll tell you super low and unhealthy calories). Good luck, I'm sure other people will say something similar.
Thanks for the advise, i think i will eat a little bit more, I was thinking about that since a few days ago. But i wanted to get this weight off really badly, and i'm a little afraid that if I have a higher caloric intake i will stop losing weight. I'm 5'9'. My burnmeter says i burn 2,300 calories daily.
oh you're eating way too low! You should probably be eating about 1700 to lose a pound a week. Just to warn you though, whenever you do start upping your calorie intake (which you absolutely should) you will probably gain weight for a short period of time (as a result of eating too low, your body will think it's all it'd get and try storing it up), but it should level off, then start going back down again but in a very much healthier way. That's why people who don't eat enough food are always so afraid to eat too much because they really do gain weight when they start eating more. Just be aware that the numbers will start going down again (definitely).
If you don't eat more, you will end up bingeing or going into starvation mode. Basically, you're setting yourself up to have yo-yoing weight, whereas eating more will give you the steady decline you want. Good luck!
I'm starting to do it, I ate 1,586 today :))
