i dont understand! not even a half pound! uggh i'm so upset! if anyone has any helpful suggestions it would be immensely appreciated. here's my deal

5'10"

currently- 140 lbs

goal 130

diet - fluctuates between 1200-1600 cals a day

recently recovering from dieting the wrong way (about 800-1000 cals a day) i of course lost weight but once i started eating more (like around 2,000 a day) I gained it all back plus some and now nothing's coming off.

i'm active through out the day (i wait tables) my my exercise routine isn't very consistent 3-4 times a weak for 20 minutes to an hour.

have i destroyed my metabolism? i feel like if i start eating more there's no way i'll lose weight

i wonder if it's because there's not enough consistency in my routine?

please help

I suspect that you need more confidence.  Don't think so much about "losing weight,' but rather think more positively about "Oh, I am so thin," and envision yourself as being very thin.

Also, is your diet structure optimum? e.g. whole grain, fruits, vegis, olive oil, etc.

I'm thinking that you just need to exercise, consistently.  Do SOME aerobics and SOME weight lifting/toning.   Your BMI is on the low side of normal so you probably just need to tone up your body.

Well, this may not help, but I would look at what you're eating and when you're eating it. For myself, I've even considered calling my doctor's office to ask about seeing a dietician to help me choose the appropriate proportions off food groups, like what percentage of protein/veggies/grains should make up my diet.

And much can be said for routines: they help you rule out what's not working.

That said, you do already seem to have a healthy weight. Maybe some weight training to build muscle and tone up would have the desired effect.

yes I eat lots of fruit, I rarely eat white bread, and generally avoid high fat foods except for peanut butter and sometimes I allow myself to indulge in a bit of ice cream Laughing

i would love to "tone up" i feel like i'm seeing no results :( thanks for the advice/support you guys. i would get a nutritionist but I simply cannot afford it. i've been trying to be my own and educate myself through places like this website.

You could just be eating the wrong types of things! I just posted about this today!

Not particularly surprised you are not losing weight.... Where you sit now appears more than likely to be where your body is right.
Your BMI is around 20 which is at the low end of the band.  If you were 130lbs you'd be getting into underweight.  So stop trying to lose, keep toning up with exercise, eat well and learn to appreciate yourself at the slim shape you are now.

Are you getting enough what your body needs? Enough fruit & veggies, enough fat? Not going overboard on protein or carbs? Look at your sodium intake as well. You need a good balance of everything or your body won't let it go. Maybe do some hand weight training so your muscles will help you burn calories.

Your weight is already pretty low, so its going to take a lot for you to lose even more.

Maybe you should consider making a shift from "trying to lose weight" to just living and eating healthfully and see what happens.  Maybe you'll lose some more weight, maybe you'll just tone up but either way I think you'll be happier than if you focus on losing weight at your size.

Given that your job has you doing plenty of cardio, I'd switch any gym time over to weight training.  Women really don't bulk up from weight training but we do tone up nicely.

1600 calories actually seems on the low side to me for a 5'10" woman who is reasonably active.

It sounds like your weight is actually pretty good!  You are tall and slender now, you're BMI is good!!!!  I know how it feels to just want to get where you want to get, but keep your head up, you're healthy!!  If you are wanting to drop, I would definately up the exercising.  I was a waitress for 7 years and although you do work your butt off, it's not quite the intensity that you could be doing for losing weight!  Keep up the good work though!

thanks to everyone Smile you guys are really encouraging and very sweet. i know that my bmi is considered healthy now but when I was younger I was much thinner and pretty much ate whatever I wanted. I guess that's just part of getting older. so there are things about my body that i would like to change but i do need to work on appreciating what i have now. i still would love to build muscle and tone up. thank you again :)
