2 months in and weight loss stops - Still hungry

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, down 14 pounds in two months but the weight loss is bouncing up and down for two weeks now. Basically stagnant.  One day shows right direction, two days later it is up a little.  Bouncing 2 - 3 pounds.  Not progressing for around two weeks.

What's the deal?

I'm hungry, but staying on the calorie intake.  Night snacking on Special K cereal or popcorn. Days are easy, nights are tough.  Tailgating on Saturdays is a bitch.  But, I am still on the right calorie path.

How long until another weight loss spurt?

Hi, cameron! Welcome to ... The Plateau!

There are one or two explanations out there for what's happening to you right now. One is that your body has finally realized you're losing weight and has gone into "starvation mode", where it tries to keep up your weight. I don't know if I buy into it, but it sounds good.

The important thing to remember, though, is that all plateaus come to an end. As long as you eat significantly less than you need to maintain a particular weight, the weight will come off ... sooner or later. You may desperately want "sooner", but you should be prepared to accept "later".

Now, if you're still hungry on your current calorie scheme after two months, then you may have your calorie target set a little too low. Try bumping it up 100-200 calories. Oddly enough, this may not only lessen the hunger but also get you out of The Plateau!

Cameron, I am in the same situation. I lost 8 pounds in 6 weeks, and then... two weeks of nothing. Or just half a poud here and then back. I realized however that those "up" happened some four days before my period. After it ended, I dropped one pound and a half almost in the same day (ok, week).

That was three days ago. I am more motivated now, but I wonder if that drop was only a fluke. I am sticking to my exercise plan and the calorie counting, anyway...

Good luck!

I had the same problem, I had to change my excericise routine. I added 1 more day of running and the weight started falling off. I don't know if that will work for you however hang in there and keep trying you will find something that works. Good luck.
