More about books- Must reads
Following off the go-to books thread...
There's a difference between the books you love and the books others will love. What one book do you recommend to your fellow CCers as a must-read?
Why Dr. Thonx Is Your Overlord -- by Dnrothx
Highlander and Fever series - Karen Moning
Black Dagger Brotherhood series - J.R. Ward
The Stand by Stephen King. It's a work of art.
The Emerald Ballad Series by B.J. Hoff
Even though he's a Christian writer and I'm not Christian, they were hands down THE best books I've EVER read!!! I don't read books more than once but I think I'll re-read the series. It starts in Ireland during the potato famine (first book is very sad) and then moves to the migration to New York.. what it was like in the Bowery and all that.. it will keep you on the edge of your seat and you fell so close to the characters! It ruined reading for me for 2 yrs afterward because nothing compared to those books.
Other books:
Harry Potter
Chronicles of Narnia
Lord of the Flies
A Child Called It by Dave Spelzer
Tons of books by Stephen King of course
A Thin Dark Line by Tami Hoag
Sarum by Edward Rutherford
it's amazing!
Laurell K. Hamilton- Guilty Pleasures (or any of her Anita Blake books- but I chose this one because it's the first of the series....but they are all amazing)
Deception Point- Dan Brown my fav of all time
Digital Fortress- Dan Brown
Very cleverly written and keep u on the edge of ur seat
I'll still go with The Count of Monte Cristo and The Hichhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
The first because it's a fabulous story about how revenge transforms a person, and the second because it's freakin' hilarious.
Nobody should get through school without reading something by Jonathon Swift and Mark Twain.
My list in the other thread included Steppenwolf, which I wouldn't recommend unless I knew what a person's interests/philosophical leanings are. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.
edited to add: And for good entertainment value, I highly recommend the Harry Potter books.
Personally, I like nonfiction.
Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma
Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything
I think Michael Pollan is an important read especially for calorie counters, because he outlines what goes into our food. It might surprise you.
Totally agree.

Oops, my spaz!
Totally agree
LAMB by Christopher Moore is really funny, as long as you'Re not to religously conservative. If you are, you will be very offended. Synopsis: You know how Jesus was born, there's a bit of story there, and then all of sudden POOF! He's 32? Well this book is the story of Jesus during those years, told by his best friend, Biff. Yeah, he was there. Get ready for ninjas, Yeti, India, and lots of madness
I also Like Philip Pullman's HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy. Synopsis: In a universe not unlike our own, a girl named Lyra has found a way into other worlds, one of which is our, as well as many others. Along with her daemon Pan, she is on a journey written throughout the ages, in all the worlds, yet she doesn't realize she is part of it. In short: a fantasy trilogy. JK Rowling was inspired by these books for the Harry Potter series, for this interested
Gregory Maguire's books (although I haven't read LOST). He gives a back-story to the villans in childrens stories: LOST is about Scrooge (haven'T read that oen though); WICKED is about the Wicked Witch of the West; MIRROR, MIRROR is about the evil stepmom in Snow White; CONFESSIONS OF AN UGLY STEPSISTER is Cinderella retold; SON OF A WITCH is the sequel to WICKED

I haven't read LAMB yet, but I did read Christopher Moore's "You Suck," a vampire love story, haha. It was bizarre, but pretty entertaining!
One of my favorite books of all time is Hemingway's "A Moveable Feast.".....classic Hemingway brilliance...love, love, love it!
"The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks (SO much better than the movie!)....DaVinci Code....the Twilght series for sheer entertainment...Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" was a great read.....
I could go on and on....
Has anyone heard of the Twilight series? I thought they would be quite dumb, but after my cousin nagging me for 4 months I really couldn't put off getting the damn book any longer. Read the whole thing in a day. Truly brilliant writing. I highly recommend it, it's fabulous!
Edit: Oh, haha you mentioned it above me, but yes, very good.
