Hello everyone!   I have been doing really well so far with the new year, but I can't seem to get all the fiber in for the day.  Any suggestions on foods to eat to help??  Thanks!

I actually get too much fiber (although some people will disagree and say that it's impossible, but that's not really true.  Fiber attaches to vital nutrients and can flush some of them out of your system if you get too much).  I'm now aiming at around 30 grams per day (before I could easily get upward of 70...).  Some of my favorite fiber rich foods include:

  • Oatmeal
  • Whole wheat bread and pastas
  • Fruit, particularly berries, which are high in fiber AND antioxidants--apples and pears are also really high in fiber
  • Spinach, artichokes, peas--most vegetables, really
  • Fiber one cereal
  • Lentils and beans
  • Almonds
  • Air popped popcorn
  • Brown rice

Hope that helps :)

runner_girl has a great list for you, I just wanted to add that I recently found the South Beach Diet packets that you add to your water.  They have 3 g protien and 5 g of fiber, and they taste wonderful.  I also really like the SB diet snack bars.
Fiber one cereal :)

it keeps me regular
Thanks for all the great suggestions - I will give them a try!
Broccoli, mostly because it is also a great source for calcium and protien, as well as fiber.
Ditto Fiber one cereal. I just add some splenda on mine. And I actually eat almost a cup so I get alot. I love it though and it keeps me going to the bathroom....
i eat 2 cups a day =P

lol....but only 3 times a week...too much fiber..is yeah...lots of bathroom breaks.

Fiber One cereal is a HUGE boost to your intake - I don't really like it by itself so I have half a cup of a low-fiber but more-tasty cereal, and add a quarter cup of Fiber one for an extra 6 grams of fiber per bowl and only 15 extra calories! If I'm REALLY low for the day, Fiber One isn't bad as a dry snack - munch a quarter cup and drink a glass of water to wash it down to boost your fiber intake.

I also like the FlatOut high-fiber wraps - 90 calories and 9 grams of fiber, but sadly a VERY high sodium content for what they are... they make a nice wrap or a yummy personal pizza crust.

Also fiber one granola bars, they are so good, although I only like the peanut ones... They give you 9 grams of fiber per bar.

I highly recommend Thomas Light Whole Grain English Muffins. Only 100 calories, taste great toasted (dry) and have 8 grams of fiber.

I get 60 grams of fiber a day sometimes. Try eating high-fiber foods or fiber fortified foods:

-beans, lentils, and other legumes

-Everything whole grain (check package to see for higher fiber content)

-Thomas Light Whole Grain English Muffins are great, even with hummus

-raw fruits and vegetables

-high-fiber cereal or protein bars (like the South Beach ones, which also have 10g protein--- peanut butter flavor is pretty yummy)

-Eat a small salad before dinner

-Brown rice, quinoa, and barley

-Weight Watchers bagels have 9g protein and are high fiber, plus are only 150 calories each

Try the Fiber One Honey Cluster flakes!  They actually taste pretty good and have almost as much fiber as the original Fiber One cereal (13g vs. 14g per serving)!  I'm more than willing to sacrifice that 1 g. for something that I actually enjoy eating.

 Good luck!

If you can't get the Fiber 1 down you could also try Kashi Go Lean cereal. I eat the regular one (not Crunch) which has 10g of fiber and 13g of protein with only 1g fat and 140 calories. And since the "fiber twigs" (as it says on the box) are mixed in with other things, they aren't as noticeable. All the above suggestions are great, too!

I really like the Fiber One "twigs" as a food to snack on during the morning. 60 calories in half a cup, and they are so small that you can stretch them out for a few hours by eating one at a time. 14 grams of fiber in 1/2 cup.
In addition to all of these foods, I like to add a spoonful of benefiber to my light n' fit yogurt, as well as stir in benefiber with any soups or sauces.  It can be added to any liquid, is tasteless, and gritless!  You can get a huge container at Sam's club for $20.   I suggest getting another salt/pepper shaker and filling it with benefiber (I would also suggest labeling, lol).  That way it is easy to sprinkle some into your liquids!
