My period is coming up, and I know I gain weight from water retention and such, but when im on my period, i just want to eat anything and EVERYTHING around me...
And also, the stationary bike i have, already hurts my butt, makes my butt sore until i get use to it, but i wear tampons and it hurts to ride the bike wearing one, what do i do?
Also, when im on my period, walking makes me bleed alot more, and i have a tread mill...
any suggestions?

no one?
for the first issue - eating: do whatever it takes to keep food off your mind (until meal time) and when you do eat, keep it healthy.
for the 2nd issue - sore butt: mine was too, but after a few mos of riding it ever day for 30min a day, it doesn't hurt anymore. :) If the it hurts to ride while wearing a tampon, then throw on a pad, if only for the time that you're riding. (I know, I hate those diaper things too!) (try putting a pillow on the seat till you get used to the bike seat! :))
for the 3rd issue - heavier flow: extra super super absorbancy! :):)
Good luck! :)

well i'm just like u...........when im on my period i want to eat eat eat and i crave SWEETS like no bodys business..............but i usually let myself splurge a little then but not too much cause i just feel bad about it after...................Also I find working out really really helps my cramps even though i feel really lazy during that time of the month...............I run and I find it makes me feel better and relieves my cramps...............U said it makes u bleed more but the only other thing I can think of other than ur bike, walking, or running...............is to do something more like yoga or pilates..........u'll get ur exercise and u may be more comfortable that way
I understand the bike situation and period--i hate that! I know this isn't helpful, but I know that I took a day or two off from exercising when my period was the worst, and then started again. At the time I was walking/jogging (which i hate), but now that i'm switching to swimming, i think i'll be able to do that while i have my period.
Sorry that wasn't very helpful!
I think the munchie thing is rather common--i get like that too. My only answer for that is will power, but i do know that I allowed myself a little of whatever i was craving, (but not more than a little), and rahter than shoot for 1250 like normal, i allowed myself about 100-150 calories more those days (so i still had a deficit).
Sorry i couldn't be more helpful...

Bleeding more from exercise just means it's coming out faster. Still has to come out. Try to resist eating junk. Find some things that are healthier or at least lower in calories & fat to replace what you're craving. And wear a pad! I still can't believe there are people who never wear pads.
Drink chilled water. Add snacks like celery and zuccini before you eat any of the junk. Portion out the junk so that you have a 1/4 of chips and then have to go to the most remote cupboard and bring out a step ladder to get to the rest. Drink a full glass of water before eating any of the junk.
Carrots, apples, nuts all good for you, eat what you want/need along with a glass of water.
Keep a glass of water or a water bottle handy wherever you go. Check out dessert substitutions on hungrygirl.com.
Do the treadmill, wear a tampon and a pad just in case. Skip the bike since it hurts, the last thing you want to do is end up in the emergency room explaining an internal injury due to exercising with a tampon. If you really want to try the bike, get a smaller tampon size and wear it in conjunction with a pad or just use a heavy pad.
Sorry Robinsue, I'm one of the lucky ones who can jump rope while wearing tampons.

I've heard that Calcium with Magnesium and Vit D might help with any chocolate cravings...
Not sure -- try to eat more high fiber foods to fill you up? Try munching on carrots when you get the "munchies." Do stuff like that would be "damage control" (would help you to eat less crap).
If the tampon "hurts" (you can feel it), it's not up high enough. You shouldn't feel it at all. I know what you're talking about. Just push it up higher. Sometimes the applicator doesn't get it up high enough and you have to use your finger. I don't think walking makes you bleed more -- I think it just SEEMS that way. Doesn't a tampon help that? Maybe use a higher absorbancy.

Okay I totally sympathize.
About the bike, I have not experienced this -- maybe take the opportunity to add a new type of workout like a pilates video instead* or just take a break from it. A few days wont derail you at all.
About the eating everything in sight! Oh boy! Im totally feeling this right now. I just go ahead and eat some chocolate or replace the lots of "good stuff" I would have had and eat a little something bad. Last night I had fettuccine! And that kinda helps. Sometimes coffee is good to curb cravings or chocolate tea. Mostly its a test of my will power. Luckily this only lasts a few days.
*There is a huge variety of affordable pilates videos at Borders and Target.

Yep, Robinsue! I absolutely LOATHE pads. I just RUFUSE to use them. They gross me out. I've always hated them. If I had to use one I wouldn't exercise at all.
You have really great advice from everyone so far. The only thing I could possibly add is this: I'm a biking fanatic. But, I'm heavy, and it gets super hot in California, so my hard bike rides are few and far between--so my butt hurts from riding cuz I never really get used to it. So, I buy biking shorts. From the back, they look funny cuz there's padding in the sensitive areas for girls. But, there are cuter ones that are a little more expensive ($40). Mine, for instance, is a skirt with the spandex biking shorts underneath, so they look really cute AND protect my a$$ from pain! You can buy these at REI or any bicycling store. Good luck!
I won't get into why a pad grosses you out but shoving something er, you know & leaving it in there like some sort of cork, doesn't. lol I guess you guys sleep short hours or something. I'll only wear them for swimming & sometimes certain days like going to Disney World all day or some place like that. Just as long as there is an accessible bathroom anywhere I go. They don't tend to do their job so well for me & they have to be changed. The other thing I don't quite get is how you handle the beginning part. You can't wear one until you're already bleeding so I picture tampon-only users ruining clothes before they know to use one. Then there's the very end of it. I hate pads too, especially the ones I have to wear most of the time, but given the necessity I'm not sorry they exist. :)
i use both tampon, and pad when excersing to be "SAFE"
I munch all day too, i just much on fruits and veggies, i never ever go over my calories, i also eat my 35 calorie fudge pop YUMMMM only time of the month i eat those and i eat all 12 that week!!

I didnt mean for this to become a debate on which is better, tampons or pads, i just asked a question... People have their own opinions and reasons why they wear what they wear, so lets keep it at that,,
But thanks so much for the help. I was truly confused. I love coming here and asking questions, i get so many replies and opinions back.
Thank you all so much for the help and support!

When my period comes, I dont exercise, I feel like absolute dog poo for 2 days and all i want to do is come home and sleep with ahot water bottle, so for 2 days out of the month I give myself that grace and take it easy!
I do try and eat right but if i slip up i dont give myself a hard time.
If your butt hurts with tampons and you wont wear a pad then give it a rest for a couple of days or find something else to do, what about swimming?

Next time I start a thread I'll be sure & make sure everyone posts exactly what and only what I intended them to post. Now that I know that's how it goes. :P ;)
I just remembered, before I got a good quality soft bike seat I used a seat cover like this one:

I bought mine at Walmart. It was extra nice too because in the summer if you have to leave the bike in the sun you can take the seat off and put it back on and you dont burn yer bum!
Good luck.

Well im sure it would work great, but i have a stationary bike that is kept in the house, and you cant change the seat of it =[
Oh no. Follow the link. Its like a pad that you pull over the seat and tighten with a drawstring. Sorry for not being clear.
