i am trying to gain muscle in my arms.....i want to be able to do 3 push ups by dec 10th. so wouldn't i need more protein then normal? i know i dont need to obsess over protein, i just felt like 72% carbs was too much. but i guess its better then too much fat. perhaps just run the carbs off?

You don't need to eat a bunch of extra protein to do a few push-ups.  I'm a vegan, and a while back I worked my way up from not being able to do any push-ups at all (yup, thats zero!), to where I could do a max. of 11.  It took me awhile to work up to it, and I don't even remember how long, but the secret is that you just have to keep making your muscles try it every day, until they start to be able to do it.

When I couldn't do any regular push-ups, I started out with doing as many modified ones ('girl push-ups') as I could, but also attempting with all my strength to do a real push-up.  Eventually the real push-ups started to work.  The main problem is that if you don't continue trying to do the push-ups after you've achieved the ability, you start to lose the ability.  Now I can't do 11 anymore because I don't practice.  Last time I tried I could still do 3, but I haven't tried recently.

Not too long ago I posted a link about a 72 year old vegan body builder, who looked pretty fantastic.  He was being interviewed for a television news show, and when asked about his diet, he told the reporter that he eats beans, nuts, fruits, and vegetables.

Thats what I eat too!

i read through this thread and hen checked my analysis, for this month my average is 31% fat 16% protein 52% carbs  Im ok with the carbs because they come from beans, fruits, whole wheat etc but my fat % seems pretty high! any suggestions on low fat high protein things I can substitute in my diet? (im vegetarian not vegan)

inacacoon, you're eating really well actually.  Just a bit high on the fat and protein, but nothing to worry about.

Don't stress.

inacacoon, beans are low in fat and high in protein, so is tofu and low fat/skim milk and dairy. nuts are great for protein, but high in fat. maybe if you eat alot of nuts, try substituting a serving of beans instead. just look at the nutrition facts of everything and see what is right for you!
The writer of number (10.) in this same list was talking about a soy isolate type protein powder that has 0 carbs and only 1 gr of fat...that's the literal point of an "isolate," they isolate the protein.  You don't have to mix it in a high glycemic juice either.  I throw my protein powder into a strawberry slush (blender/frozen berries).
sorry...a duplicate

If you eat a whole foods, plant based diet, you will get plenty of protein.  I think that your deficiency is coming from your high consumption of processed foods.  I also noticed that your sodium intake was really high, because of this same reason.  I had the same problems when I became a veggie.  Then I read research like The China Study (mentioned above :o) )  and I learned how to eat a vegan diet and get around 60 grams of protein a day, not to mention 60 g of fiber! (In 1300-1500 calories) I have tons of energy and peace of mind!
