How much more have you started eating after lifting?

Quote  |  Reply

I used to eat about 2,000 calories for weight lifting every other day, cardio in between, but now that I've researched online to make my workouts more efficient, I've been doing weight lifting 6/7 days a week and cardio every other day.  I typically do weight lifting for about half an hour, but for some reason I'm always hungry and have been overeating to 3,000 every day now.  I don't think a more efficient workout of half an hour every day could be increasing my hunger by that much, but I"m not so sure...any thoughts?

My appetites through the roof at the moment now I'm doing more regular and serious weight training. I am eating about 2,500 a day normally. I do cardio about 4 days a week as well. I say if you are hungry, then you should eat. Just make sure you make healthy choices - lean protein, slow release carbs, fruits and veg, nuts and seeds etc. My weights staying pretty stable but I am noticing a change in body shape in the mirror, so I'm sticking with it! Weight lifting is great, I like being able to eat so much :D

I'm just asking because I've eaten a lot today, and although I have a pretty decent balance at 3,000, and have consumed over 80g fiber, I could probably still go for another plate of food!

wk and dondons, are you trying to lose weight? I am just surprised at the numbers. 2500 and 3000?? I am at 1400 a day to lose weight according to cc.

safina they are probably both men, men need more cals per day than women i eat between 1250 - 1500 a day, and my husband eats 2500 - 3000 a day, and yes when my husband works out he eats any thing he can, he says he craves pb and other high protein stuff, and the reason you crave it is becuz your body is saying hey we need to rebuild musle so we need to eat more protein

i'm actually a woman, (21, 5'7) and at the minute am maintaining my weight pretty much, working on changing the compostion of my body into more lean muscle weight rather than fat, and if I lose any weight its a bonus. It fluctuates from week to week depending on how hard I work out. I feel like my body just goes through the roof with hunger when I weight train so am focusing on eating whenever my body tells me I should and giving it healthy foods - when I add up at the end of the day it normally comes out around 2500

thats great. i also noticed that you are alot taller than me, and i might add that the more exercise you do the more cals you will need in a day. sorry for the mixup. i was just pointing out that different ppl have different calorie needs

on a daily basis....I take in about 5000- 6000 calories (sometimes 7000), but after working out...I take in 1500 alone so it's quite a bit.  on my off days I'm taking in about 3000 - 4000.

I sometimes eat one of those aluminum trays full of lasagna...lol...people are sometimes amazed that I only weigh 187 with 5% BF.

I'm a woman, 5'5 and I generally eat 2200 minimum, some days up to 2800 (maintaining an 800-1000 cal deficit).  Though in my case it's because I'm already really heavy (212), am nursing a baby and I lift 5 days/week.

I'm not looking forward to when the baby weans, that's 300+ calories that go bye-bye heh.

To answer the OP - yes I have, and I suspect it's because I don't consume enough protein, especially while lactating.  I just bought some whey protein isolate this weekend and I am hoping that having a post-workout shake NROLFW style will help with my protein intake, plus boiling eggs to have on hand, etc.  Basically my theory is that I need to change the composition of what I'm eating, eating much more protein and more fat and cut the carbs a little.  I've noticed that, for instance, if I eat a bean & cheese burrito and I slap a bunch of guacamole and sour cream on top it's more filling in the long run than 2 of the same burritos, plain.

We'll see how it works :)

It's funny since my carb/fat/protein ratio were all pretty good (55-25-20).  And I'm a 5'3" female at ~120, so I have no idea why I was eating so much haha
