Hi everyone,
I'm having a major life stressor now and for a week, I'm so nauseated and seasick when I first wake up that I can't move out of bed. I know it is the stress and anxiety. So because of feeling sick and staying in bed for hours on weekends, my calorie intake is down to like 1,000 and I know I've lost weight this week.
I am reading online of home remedies, like ginger capsules, high protein snack before bed, crackers before getting up, peppermint tea, yoga, breathing exercises. Have any of you dealt with anything like this? If it continues, I'll have to call my Dr.
I am eating more today than yesterday, and not staying in bed, thank goodness, and I'm sure I will adjust soon to the situation, but right now, my body is not reacting well to the change. Thanks for any suggestions!--SSkirt
maybe you're prego..?
No.
Sorry you haven't been feeling well. One idea is instead of just treating the symptom (the nauseau), you address the thing that is stressing you so much to feel this way?
I always find that if I'm feeling stressed about something its because I feel like I've lost control of a situation or something is out of my control - like the actions/reactions of other people. So I have to take back that control and that might just mean accepting that I don't have control, accepting it and moving on. Its not easy but you can do it.
Replace the negative stressor with something positive. For instance when someone at work does something that ticks me off rather than stewing about it (or eating as I would have in the past) I get up and go for a brisk walk and mutter to myself (yes I get looks but who cares). I give myself maximum 10 minutes to mutter about what I'd love to do or say then I just say ok now let it go. And the bonus is that I got up from my desk for 10 minutes of brisk walking which burned off a few calories too!
Good luck,
I've dealt with similar feelings due to low blood sugar and severe tachycardia. I'm not saying that's what you have, but what helped me was facing it head on: getting up very slowly, ( i was hospitalized a few times) often with nurses helping me up. Drink LOTS of water, slowly if necessary (they gave me 16 oz glass). Then eat something easy on the stomach (saltines, etc). And eventually the feelings go away.
My favorite natural remedy for nausea is Stash's lemon-ginger herbal tea. Just brew up a cup and sit and sip slowly. That stuff as carried me through flu and hangover alike, and never lets me down.
Since your nausea seems to be stress-related, it might not be a bad idea to incorporate whatever remedy you choose into a stress-relieving ritual. My favorite is to sit down by myself with a cup of tea or coffee and answer the latest letter from my grandmother. It couldn't hurt to come up with something like that for yourself.
Good luck, and I hope you get feeling better!
Good news--no nausea this morning. However, spent large part of day sleeping. I think my body needs it, although I'm not getting enough calories in because of sleeping so much.
These tips are great.
Swim fan: I think I'm not getting enough water and maybe accumulation of stomach acid from lack of food might be a reason, too. I ate well yesterday and last night before bed and no nausea. Before falling asleep, I did a relaxation breathing exercise that I found on Dr. Weill's website.
Posseof1: Love the lemon-ginger tea idea. I will look for it. I like Stash teas anyway. The idea of tea and writing is comforting just to read about. Red lentil soup is simmering on the stove now--a comfort food for me. I've been e-mailing friends today and that helps, too.
lynnmm: Yes, the situation is not something I can control. It is part of life and I have to accept it, as you said. It is getting easier day by day and I'm looking for the positive aspects.
Thanks everyone. Soup's on. -- SSkirt
I know how you feel, when i have been stressed i am like that in the morning. usually before school i feel really sick and i then can't eat anything until later on. I think the best way to feel better would be to have a nice cup of tea and maybe think abiout some nice things. basically just relaxing will help alot. Luckily i am on holidays now so i am taking alot of time to relax and get over the nausea.
mmm... I love lentil soup, too. And it's easy on your stomach. I've really been craving soup for the last few weeks, but it's SO DARN HOT here that I can't convince my boyfriend that it would be a good idea. :)
I'm glad you're starting to feel better!
