is working out in the am better?

I know that it gives you that boost of energy for the rest of the day, so i want to start!

but how should you eat to fuel  pre workout, or post workout?

should you eat breakfast before? cause working out on a full stomach doesnt seem like a great idea... but working out on an empty stomach would probably make you nausous, dizzy, and ravenous.

any advice, or examples are appreciated, thank you!

I've heard a lot of different answers for this, so I'd guess it is very individual. I personally can't lift or do yoga if I've eaten, but I have to eat before I go for a walk to have the energy to walk.

Anyway, I think the best answer I've heard on this one is you should eat something light and mostly carbs a little before the workout. Protein and fat are harder to digest.

Its individual preference for the most part. I'm an early morning work out person. I run 5x/wk and cross train the 2 non-running days. For me a lot depends on how hungry I am when I get up. Somedays I can have some green tea then hit the streets w/o problem, others I have a yogurt or half serving of nuts. I've also seen recommendations to have carbs an hour or so before exercise. Doesn't work for me since I'm up and out of the house in 15-30 min.

Bottom line - let your body tell you what you need to do.

I work at at 6.45am tue, wed thu and the weekends. For me, i have no problem going on an empty stomach bu the times that i am ravenously hungry i have a glass of oj, a watery fruit, some almonds or a shake of some sort before i go spin/run

I work out in the AM and i eat a bowl of oatmeal before my work out and a whole grain english muffin egg sanwich after usually with some sort of fruit or veggie it works for me!

I do my workouts in the early early AM - I just grab a handful of granola beforehand.  Actually what I do is measure a cup out into a bowl, grab a handful out of that and eat it and then have the rest with a cup of milk after the workout.  Quick energy and it's measured so I know how many cals are in it :)

When I work out in the the AM I walways do so after breakfast, otherwise you don't have the energy to get much done so it's kind of pointless. But leave about 30-45 minutes between breakfast and working out so that you're not so weighed down by the food.

My understanding is that if you work out in the morning your body will tend to torch more calories through out the day.  <Is this true? I have no idea>  Regardless - I have stuck to my morning routine for over a 1yr.  By doing so I've kept off the 30lbs that I originally lost & feel great.

I prefer to jog in the early AM before breakfast.  Post jog: I eat a high fiber cereal w/1 cup no fat milk & 20gs of raisins = 235 cals.

Kind of... If your exercise is high intensity your metabolism wil be raised slightly for a few hours after the exercise.
