mortified

Quote  |  Reply

I know this is supposed to be worth it, but I've hit the point where I'm finally frustrated. I had to go out of town on literally 1 hour notice and the last 48 hours were so stressful without even factoring my new healthier lifestyle into the equation. Anyway, I also got my period 6 days earlier than I expected (wtf???) and so all this = frustrated that I'm not seeing a difference and that whatever progress I was making (which is sloooow) can be so undone in two days. Yes, it really really can. I've done the math. When you're short and your BMR is already low, it's easily done.

So yeah, I'm mortified that I have to see people the third week of December I haven't seen in years, and these last two weeks  of counting are basically a wash. I look so bad. I realize it's a superficial thing to worry about but I do. I wish now I could cancel. It's amazing how much a basically sane and logical person like myself is determined to not see these people because of my weight. I'm embarrassed.

My attempt to lose weight has been a secret, and  I finally told a friend I lost 11 pounds (and how) over the last few months and she was like 'oh, wow, congrats, sorry I didn't notice' -- and I only see her once a month.

Sorry for the vent. Feel free to ignore. I just had to post here because, like I said, this is mostly a secret change I've been making. (it's much better that way)

11lbs is great. any lose is a success!!! dont feel bad 11 sounds like a big number to us but to people looking at you is can be hard for them to tell! keep up the good work and you will get where you want to be it just takes time. it is worth it when people start noticing you are losing weight. i loved getting all the attention about it. i have not lost any weight since around may so i am looking forward to getting back on track and getting the compliments again  :)  good luck to you  Smile

First off, congrats on the 11lbs...you're 6lbs ahead of me.

I totally relate with how you are feeling right now.  This is HARD...WORK!  And hard work that can sometimes be really difficult see results.  The best advice I can give you is what I had to tell myself the other night.

There are going to be times when you are convinced that you won't be able to do this.  There are going to be times that you feel like you aren't making any progress despite all that you are doing.  But as long as you've equipped yourself with the right knowledge, tools, and support, you just have to point yourself in the right direction and keep going.  Don't overthink it.  Just do what you know you need to do and be patient.  You will get there.

Good luck.

Haha.. do I get to be the mean one here?

So reading your post, I figured you must be in the obese- to morbidly obese range, and feeling self conscious.  I can relate.  Being significantly thinner only a few years ago, it's hard to see people I haven't seen since then...

But.........

You weigh 144lbs!!! Unless you are like 4'5, you're not that overweight.  Hell depending on how tall you are you may not be overweight at all.   Oh wait, just found it, you are 5'2.  so programmed into BMI Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 26.3, you are currently classed as mildly overweight.

Okay you are entitled to your shame, that you dont look like a sixteen year old anymore, just as much as anyone else- but did you ever stop to think these people you haven't seen in years might not be any closer to a hot young thing?  We age, get wrinkles, get hair, lose hair (man I've repeated this laundry list a lot lately).  And when you do see someone and they've gained weight or anything else... if they are your friends, would you really think any less of them?

Give yourself a break, and just keep on trucking.  Stress and deadlines are your enemy.  You will be fine Wink, and I'm sure your friends wont think any less of you for having an extra couple of pounds.

I am also 5'2" and I am down 16 from my high.  Now I am a whopping 4 pounds heavier than you.   My weight loss is also slow - by design.  I would rather lose slowly with just under maintenance calories for my goal weight than try to struggle (and ultimately fail) with the 1200 calories that this and other sites have recommended.

May I make a recommendation?  Go out and buy yourself a few great outfits that fit you right now.   Not over sized to hide yourself.  Not undersized to wear later.  Some stuff that looks amazing on your body size/type right now.  Stuff that you can throw on in a moments notice and know it looks good on you.

Then go get your hair done.   Color, cut in a new style.  Be bold.  Give the stylist artistic freedom.

This is the best thing I ever did for myself.  When you look great, you feel great and when you feel great it is soooo much easier to stay on track.

As your post attests, life does not wait for you to get to your goal weight.  It is happening right now.  Live it and enjoy it.

I'm sure it's not all of your progress, and if it is, I want to know how you managed to eat 38,500 calories above your maintenance in two days.

Don't freak out, remember that you can retain water during your period, and that there are scale fluctuations that you should be already aware of.  If it's not water retention or basic fluctuations, and it's a pound or so of weight gain, remember that small set backs will happen along the way.
