Most filling foods??

Quote  |  Reply
I'd be interested to expand my diet horizons -- I'm eating a lot of apples and oatmeal to fill up right now! And fresh veggies and vegetable soup. Any other good, filling comfort food ideas?? My appetite is out of control sometimes! :) Thanks.

Lentils are my fav.
I make up a spicy lentil dish and have it with a poached egg :D yum...
High calories (600 or so rounded up) but filling :)
Technically the most filling combination is one with fibre and protein.  Vegetables are excellent.  Pulses (legumes) like lentils and beans are especially useful.  But you can extend it to... scrambled eggs on wholegrain toast... high fibre breakfast cereals with nuts and seeds.... some grilled chicken with brown rice

For me, the most filling thing I eat is hot cereal (either Kashi hot cereal or oatmeal) with peanut butter or almond butter mixed in.  First off, it's delicious, which is nice, but also, it seems to hold me for the longest of anything else I eat.  I guess it is the combination of fiber and protein.

If I'm hungry between meals I'll make 100 calories worth of airpopped popcorn.  I'm not talking about the microwaveable bags.  100 cals is a huge amount, like a large serving bowl.  I wont flavor it with butter or salt.  I'll sprinkle lime juice and chili powder.  I love it!  Very filling.

well i think nuts are really filling, not to mention, healthy because of their monounsaturated fats. its my favourite snack! but please, choose carefully. not sugar-coated cashew nutsTongue out my best pick? almonds and macadamia

peanuts are better, more protein/cal than almonds or macadamia.

My fav. comfort food??  oat bran (I cook it like oatmeal) add a scoop of protein powder (muscle milk is my favorite if I have the cals).  add some cinnamon, mix and eat with a little bit a fat-free milk.  ~300 calories, 22 grams of protein.  I have it every morning for breakfast (my biggest meal of the day).

Ohh another adaptation, is oat bran + egg whites+ couple chopped walnuts + 1/2 old bannana + vanilla extract + splenda + baking soda + cinamon + whey protein + hot griddle = hot banana protein pancake, MMmmmmm

MUSHROOMS!  I cook mushrooms into everything, and they don't just taste good but fill me up with practically no calories.  For dinner I am having mushrooms, onions, and crushed red peppers I sauteed in a little Pam, then mixed in some egg beaters and chopped tomatos, and topped with fat-free mozzarella...... a HUGE plate of satisfying protein and fiber so big I might not even finish it for about 250 calories!
