What are some of the most filling fruits and vegetables?

Quote  |  Reply

I've tried eating a bunch of different fruit and vegetables for my diet, but I wanted to know which in particular are really filling.

Can anyone help?

Watermelon usually fills me up.

The ones that fill me up the most are:

apples, pears, raw jicama slices, raw baby carrots.

Cooked veggies & soft fruits don't fill me up...guess I need the crunch to really feel satisfied.

For me, it's baby carrots and raw spinach. A big spinach salad always does the trick!! To me, apples and peppers don't fill me up. apples tend to make me more hungry, always have ever since I was a kid.

fruit: bananas always make me feel full

vegetables: broccoli, gailan (Chinese broccoli), brussels sprouts.  burdock root (fixed Japanese style.)

Frozen bananas! Takes longer to eat :)

Sweet potatos always fill me up!

Apples, bananas and celery for me

I have just discovered PEARS!  High fiber, less than 100 cal and definitely take the edge off between meals :)

FRUITS:

Strawberries, because they have a good amount of fiber and even protein, 5 calories/strawberry about (about 50 cals/cup compared to most other fruits 100 cals/cup or serving). Raspberries, blueberries, and other berries too, but I can't get my hands on those as readily.

Melon like cantaloupe and honeydew, also 50 cals/cup.

Oranges, about 65 cals each. Juicy!

Tomatoes

VEGGIES: broccoli, mushrooms, cauliflower, green beans, spinach

veggies- sweet potatoes, yams, sauteed spinach or kale or swiss chard (yummmm), broccoli, mushrooms, pea

fruits- anything with lots of fiber! apples, apricots, bananas, grapefruit and oranges.

fruits: apples, bananas, red grapes and prunes.

vegetables: bell peppers, onions, spinach, cabbage and broccoli.

spaghetti squash!

Cauliflower is my FAVORITE it fills me up cooked or raw dipped in hummus :)

Cabbage is very filling I boil it with salt. you can eat like the entire head for very few calories.

Mushrooms!!! raw or cooked I love them they are VERY low in cals.

As far as fruit goes I'd stick to melons they have a lot of water and fill you up quick

Strawberries are fantastic for filling me up.  There very low in calories and super healthy for you.  A cup is 45 calories.

Asparagus always fills me up.  There very low in calories, I believe that 4 spears is only 11 calories.  I boil them for about 10 minutes and spray with Olivio.  Theres no calories or cholesterol in this spray butter.

Avacado is high in fat but if you eat it in moderation your okay.  Avacado is so under rated.  Its filled with tons of nutrients and makes your skin look good to.  2 tablespoons is 50 calories.  I spread avacado on a wasa cracker for a light snack.

I really love sweet potatoes. I boil them and don't add any sugar or butter, and they're around 100 calories for medium one. The ones I eat tend to be more small, I think, but I do feel full after eating them, and they taste good. They're also high in vitamins, and fiber, so it's a good deal.

I also love berries, bananas (though with bananas, I do wonder about the sugar level a little) and melons. The super sweet tasting things, I try to only eat occasionally and not too much of..it just 'feels wrong' for me personally somehow.

Green apples are my other favorite.and tangerines. I eat those fairly often.

Sweet Potatoes, definitely for me.

I just boil or bake them with honey and cinnamon. Yummy and very filling.

I have trouble finishing a whole, large naval orange, and find that the bulk keeps me full for a long time.

As for vegetables, cooked vegetables seem to be more filling than raw.  Raw are good for munching and take a long time to eat, but leave me feeling still hungry unless I have them with something.  They do get me past the need to snack though.  Cooked vegetables, especially in soups, feel more satisfying.

For fruits: anything that's water-based (is that the right term?)

Apples, pineapple, watermelon, pears, grapes

For vegetables:

eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini, potatoes, carrots

There might be some more but these are the ones that I've tried.

Sweet Potato or Garnet yam fries!  Cut them up small in cubes or shoestrings and and spray with a little Pam.  Bake at 425 for about 20 minutes.  Healthy choice for comfort food.
