Most full for fewest calories?
What foods make you feel the most full for the fewest calories? Just curious, it'd be useful to know on those days where you're close to your calorie limit for the day but still feeling hungry.
try cherries. A cup of cherry contains only 75 calories. Also, popcorns, the non-buttered plain ones are also filling.
It sounds crappy - no pun intended - but sugar free metamucil. The fibre in it expands after you've drunk it, it actually starts to thicken in the glass, and definitely takes the edge off cravings. It is artificially sweetened so if you're allergic to those then it's no good, otherwise it's 20 calories per 250mL (2 spoonfuls of powder). But you do get a sweet drink fix.
It also can help the ol' bowels - often if you're dieting that whole system can be neglected. we focus on what goes in and not what's best coming out. (bit crude I know, sorry). The usual source of fibre is bread which is often one of the first things to go during weight loss because of the number of calories.
Plain, hot Earl Grey tea is also excellent. 2 cups, no milk. Add a sweetener (not sugar obviously) and a very thin slice of lemon. Very astringent, cleansing and yummy!!!
7/8 almonds
35g oatmeal/porridge
and TOFU!
anything with a good amount of protein in it really.
Try - broth-based soups, veggies & fruits, high fiber cereals w/ skim milk...
Peanut butter and bananas. will fill you up for hours and only has about 200calories

Marty
i go with the veggies as well. ill eat broc, cauliflower, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery..anything thats fiber rich and low cals. this is especially useful when i get that binge sensation. lots of water will also help, but not quite as satisfying. i also like sugar free jello with non fat redi whipped topping...pretty low in cals and the jello is dense and gets me full.
This morning, I mixed a bowl of Fiber One original and Kashi GOLEAN original with a cup of skim milk, since I saw that I had an excess of cereals. Was 38g fiber, 26g protein, and 350 calories. I had to actually force myself to eat lunch later.
a big apple, about 130 calories. drink a glass of water with it and it'll fill you up for a few hours.
Broccoli or apples. :]
I don't understand all of you saying ANY of that stuff will fill you up for a few hours. I eat an apple and a low fat string cheese every day on the way home from work to tie me over till dinner, and I am hungry 15 minutes later! I am almost always hungry.
Egg whites are my absolute favorite- it's almost as low calorie as eating vegetables that I just let myself eat as much as I want! 17 calories/egg white has 3.5 g of protein, which is basically the most protein per calorie ratio out of all foods. When I have a huge bowl of egg whites in the morning (like 170 calories, 10 of them), I find that my hunger is a lot more under control all day. Of course I still get hungry, but not really so... the hunger I feel is a much more distant sensation. Anyway, as long as you're not vegan, you've got to try it, and you'll know what I mean (if you don't already)!
anything high in protein and/or fiber fills me up.
oatmeal, eggs/egg whites, yogurt, warm tea, water, almonds, soynuts, spinach, broccoli, frozen berries.
200 grams of broccoli fills me up for hours and is only 68 calories.
I have found that Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal--1 cup with skim milk--keeps me full for hours and has plenty of protein and fiber--also delicious!
How much peanut butter do you eat with a banana? I wouldn't think it would be much if it is only 200 calories.
