The most important workout you will ever do...
... is the one you didn't feel like doing!
If that is true, I just did my most important workout. I woke up
this morning feeling like staying in bed. In fact, I hit the snooze
alarm and took an extra 10 minutes which I usually don't do. But I
finally drug myself out of bed. I weighted myself and I was 185! That's
almost 2 lbs more than yesterday. ugh!![]()
I reassessed what I ate yesterday and I didn't eat good even though my calories weren't too high. But I ate fast food and movie popcorn, all high in sodium. So I'm sure this gain is only water. And boy to I feel sluggish.
I really didn't feel like walking. I really did want to go back to bed. But remembering that saying about it being the most important workout, I made myself go anyway. I hoped that after I got going it would get easier. I wish I could tell you that it did, but the truth is, it didn't. My muscles ached, my weights felt like they were 10 lbs instead of 2 and to add insult to injury, the mosquitoes were terrible.
I was determined to not let this get me down. So I kept going. I'm glad I went even though it was hard and I still don't feel that great. And I'm sure I feel better now than I would have if I had not gone.
This experience sure makes me see the relationship between unhealthy eating and inactivity. I'm curious how many others have made this same observation.

GOOD WORK!
You know, my dad has a saying that starts out with the same phrase but ends quite differently...
"The most important workout is the one you don't want to go."
In other words, the day you want to stay in bed is the day you NEED to get up and go. Otherwise, soon enough, all days will be spent being lazy. I completely agree with my dad's advice on this - and, those days are also the days when the work-out feels oh soo good afterwards.
Editted to add: Boy - I must be out of it! I swear I read your post as saying something completely different. Maybe I am not awake yet. Now that I re-read your post, I must say congrats :)
Hey OP, awesome job! Wish I could be more like you. I'm just too in love with that snooze button ![]()
I wasn't feeling like working out today but this post may help me do it anyway:) Thanks. I must remember that phrase.
While I agree with the main point here, I would say that any workout that does not feel better as you get going is the one you need to LISTEN to, because it is generally a sign of overtraining/need for rest.
BUT you don't know that until you get up and do it. So it is a very important workout, too, because you know to schedule tomorrow as a rest day!
I cannot think of a time when I kept pushing through "bad" workouts (the ones that don't feel better as you keep going) and somehow I got "better." I always ended up taking off time, usually because of some type of injury.
I still say, however, CONGRATS for getting up to do it. Now enjoy that PLANNED day off! :)
This post pushed me do what I don't want to do! Thanks for the boost!
