Mother & Daughter As They Shed Those Pounds
Mother & Daughter As They Shed Those Pounds
Hello and welcome to this board.
We are a Mother & Daughter trying to shed those pounds.
First of all we will introduce ourselves.
Daughter = joelleRousseau Age: 21
Mother = rockinmama Age: 46
JoelleRousseau: " I started my weight at 165 lbs and I am now 160 lbs. I never used to have trouble losing weight. Over the past year I find it hard to stay motivated on my own so me and my mom thought we should make up a Mother & Daughter Club to help us stay on track. On this board we will post daily or as often as we can with our thoughts, ideas, recipes, encouragement, ect. We invite other mother and daughters who are maybe dieting together to join us on our journey of shedding those pounds."
Rockinmama: "I started at 245 lbs from last year and I am now 220 lbs. I too need lots of encouragement to keep going. I have been yo yo dieting all my life and am tired of the ups and downs of my weight. This time I am determined to shed those pounds! My daughter has always been good at encouraging me to keep going. I am sure there are other mothers and daughters dieting together, why don't we all help each other!"
Come Mom's and Daughters...where are you?
Mom and I are about the same amount of weight, and her weight loss plan is 2 pounds per month. Mine is 10 per month. A healthy weight loss is 1 - 2 pounds per week, and if I drop 2 pounds per week, there's 4 1/2 weeks in a month... that is 9 pounds... I can't guarantee that I'll get 10 off per month, but I am happy with any drop of weight per month. I've dropped 9 this month, actually, but my first week was primarily water weight.
My biggest obstacle actually is going home. I eat the most with my parents, it seems, and I get to exercise the least often at my parents' house. I'm in college, she's a teacher at a rural high school... we talk about what we ate, what we did right for ourselves... and of course, she gives me a talking-to when I eat under 1200 calories... :P
hello, my mom and I are working together to shed the lbs too!
Ginger (daughter)- 5'6 and 220lbs
MaryAnne (mother)- 5'10 and 270lbs
I started at 250lbs, right after having my son on July 4, 2007. I have always been overweight (around 200lbs) and after hitting 250, I decided I was going to do something about it. Life is too short to live unhappily!!! So I have lost 30lbs in 3 months... (I didn't really start dieting until Nov.5) which is a great beginning but I have 70lbs to go!
Mom started at 465lbs. She was extremely obese and having severe health problems. My parents split in 2002 and in her depression, she started to work on herself. Now she has lost almost 200lbs! That's a whole person! She has about 100lbs to go until she gets to her goal weight.
When I told her I wanted to get serious about dieting, and asked her for advice, she told me that we could work together and every Friday compare how many lbs we lost. If we lost no weight, it was ok, because at least we didn't gain! But if we gain weight, we have to do our workout EVERY day that next week and cannot eat out once for a week. It works :)
I started 156 at 5'6'' July 23rd and made it to 138 by October 31, where I have maintained ever since. (age 21... in 9 days!!!)
My mom, however, was at 268 at 5'9'' and I have been on her forever to do something, and it was her 2008 new year's resolution to do so. We are working on our fourth week and she has so far lost 10.5lbs and works out with my 4-6 days a week (depending on her schedule). (age 42)
She doesn't have an account on here, but she does come here for calorie information, so I felt I would post :)
This weekend spending my 20th birthday with my parents was just like the rest. I had about 800 calories per meal, except for breakfast, which was about 400. 2000 isn't bad until your dad goes into the cupboard for what seems like a whole rack of Little Debbie snack cakes... and then you're doomed!
2150 Saturday day, right even to my average daily expenditure (2200).
2320 Sunday, just a bit higher.
No exercise unless you count shopping at a department store for some new clothes a workout!
When I last posted, I was 190 pounds, and today I'm 191. I don't weigh everyday, but this morning I wanted to weigh the damage that this weekend put on me... Luckily it was just one pound, that can be snuffed in the next few days by an extensive workout. 3 more days in the month, I'm not going to make it to at least 188. But I'll certainly try!
Glad to see other mothers and daughters working together. My mom and I live many states away from each other, but we are keeping in contact about our progress and any bumps along the road.
Most of my excercise comes from chasing a 2 and a 5 year old around, but I try to get out and do 3.5 miles of walking M-F depending on the weather. I have a friend in the neighborhood who walks with me and we each push a stroller, but let me tell you it is no stroll.
Mom is stuck with a lot of snow this year so she is walking on a tread mill.
Our goal is another 20 pounds before we go on a family vacation at the end of March. Since joining here at the beginning of January I have lost 10.5 pounds so 20 more here I come.
Leo- Welcome! When you're younger usually your metabolism is better but not always. Joelle has a slower metabolism and she is only 21. Great on your 9 lbs gone. Nice to see that scale go down eh? Oh and don't worry about the 1 lb gain...drink lots of water and it will more then likely come off quickly.
ginger- You're the same weight as me. And that is awesome about your Mom....good for her...she's doing so well. Please keep us inform as to how she's doing. I like your motivation to each other for the Friday thing. Maybe Joelle and I will try that.
mikerwinfan- Good for you too on reaching your goal weight and still encouraging your MOm. Give her a high5 from us on her 10.5 lbs gone.
ceclark77- Joelle and I are 5 hours apart...not as far apart as you and your Mom but still hard at times. Sounds like you are doing well.
Today I did pretty good....actually the past week I did pretty good. A challenge for me is drinking alot of water but I have managed to drink about 2 1/2 litres a day the past 3 days. I retain water so I need to actually drink more then that but I'm getting there. Joelle how are you doing?
Hi,
I'm the mother of three daughters and one, though not on this site is committed to exercising with me.
My name is Patricia and my daughter is Jessica. Jessica just gave birth to her second child in September and is still struggling with baby fat. Fortunately we live within a fifteen minute from each other so we have decided to walk for at least 1 hour on most evenings. ( Some evening I have other committments) I love that, in addition to becoming healthier together, we get to spend time hanging out. Jess is 23 and I'm 43. Her sons, Nolan 2 and Liam 4 months keep her pretty busy so any time we get together is valued. We usually take Liam with us in the stroller but leave Nolan with Dad. He's not into power walking yet. I have about thirty five pounds to lose and Jess has about twenty. Glad to meet everyone and thanks for the great idea.
First of all to everyone welcome to the board. We hope to hear from you as we draw closer to our goal weights. I will try to post to everyone. But if I don’t get a chance to post to you please don’t get offended. I still care! You are not missed.
Ginger that is awesome about 30 pounds in 3 months! Also about your mom loosing so much! Keep up the great work and thank you for the tip. (Mom we should do that...) I look forward to hearing from you again.
Mikerwinfan: Congrats as well on your weight loss! Also good work on helping your mom out! I am sure she can loose as well by working out with you that many times a week! It’s nice that you both are supporting each other! Please keep coming back as well.
Thebledx3: About the username.Nope that’s my full name. Joelle Rousseau. I just put it together. Don’t worry about the randomness. I tend to be very random in my life! Ha-ha.
I’m doing actually really well with the whole counting calorie thing. I manage to stay beneath my cals. Mom was down this past weekend and when I weighed myself I lost 5 pounds to when I last weighed myself! I haven’t weighed myself in the last couple of days. I think I am going to weigh myself every Friday. I really need to start drinking my water. Now that I am feeling better and over my cold tomorrow I am going to drink my water! Also start working out again.
Yes, I am going to have to add flavor. I am not really a water lover unless it is summertime. weird huh?
My motivation was up the past two days, but it hit rock bottom right before that. I called mom and she said get some rest, and have a wholesome breakfast in the morning. Odd how mom's know those things! I went to the gym twice yesterday, but then again, I had 2100 calories, and I had to find at least a slight deficit.
Mom's delighted to see 6 pounds down this month, and I'm back up a few, so we're exactly even. 6 pounds down for the month of January for the both of us! My February goal is from 192 to 182, and mom's goal is 194 - 190.
I don't remember ever being 182. I feel I skipped from 178 to 198 before I knew it! I can't wait to see the low end of 180's for the first time!
I also find my motivation goes up and down. It depends how I'm feeling and who I'm with. When I'm with my mom its easier to loose weight. If I'm with my husband..thats the hard part.
It's really good that you and your mom keep eachother motivated. Yes, mothers do know the right thing to say at the right time! My mom is like that too. :)
Just think! Once you hit 182 you will always remember it! It will be great! It's always better to think of loosing then gaining. So 182 will be a great thing for you! You won't think oh darn..i'm back at 182. You will thing yay!! I am at 182 and dropping! :)
...I like the mix better because you can use as little or as much as you want, and mix to taste. I don't much like "Berry" flavor, but Lemon and Strawberry-Kiwi, I love them.
Anyways... My mom's having some problems, and it's reflecting in both our eating habits. My parents are getting laid off from their teaching jobs (effective mid-June), and we're all stressing over it. My parents have been looking for other jobs, but nothing is looking promising. Mom's eating too much, I'm not eating enough, and the both of us have lost nothing this week.
That's too bad about your parents and their teaching jobs. That is very stressfull. I know because our business went bankrupt 2006 and my husband had to find work. I too had to go back to the job force after not working (Other then doing the books for our business) for 20 years. Very stressfull indeed. Hope things work out for them.
Joelle- Try buying those 100 calorie snacks when Jimmy snacks on fattening stuff. Helps me. But it does get a little expensive though. But I'd rather that then eat over my calories.
Grape (never tried it)
Strawberry Kiwi (Very good)
Lemon (THE BEST)
Lemonade (Very good)
Berry (not my favorite...)
Rasberry Lemonade (never tried it)
And much more... I don't know the other flavors.
I tried a girdle on today, and I decided... GIRDLES ARE EVIL... They do take about 15 pounds off, but they hurt... and they cut off your air supply... and... well, they're uncomfortable...
Mom and I are on the right track, we've each lost 8 this month. I'm hoping for another 8 for February, and she's hoping for up to 5, but fine with any loss at all!
She and I talked earlier, she got offered a job about 50 miles from the house, and she thinks it's going to be a stretch. The housing market is pretty bad right now... But I seriously just saw the house mom WOULD PICK because I know what she looks for.
Edit: I finally uploaded a picture. Take a look!
