I've never gotten much for my mom on mothers day. We're not a 'present' family.

Cook her a nice dinner (use her food if you must!)

Go with her to something of her liking - shopping, antique hunting, something she likes to do!

Even have a spa day at home with her? Paint your nails and have girl time.

Even a handmade card should be appreciated or a photo album/scrapbook with old pictures of the family?

Sometimes I'll include a lottery ticket with the card complete with plans on how we would spend the winnings together!

Will spend the day with my son and granddaughter opening my pool.  Being with them is enough pressie for me.  Knowing my son though, he will cook me up a healthy, gourmet dinner.

thanks guys, maybe i'll make her breakfast.. she loves french toast :)

Mothers day has been and gone here, I took my mum wine tasting.

There are inexpensive cards at the dollar tree. $1 each. Or: More expensive cards. I don't know your exact budget for that. Since you're older you could just try writing her a letter. It's not as glittery/plastered with glue as we get older. Even an page from your everyday notebook stuffed into a regular envelope would be touching.( Just write something sweet to your mom. ) It would be cute to add a fairly current random photo of you two together. It doesn't have to be an expensive gesture to be thoughtful.

btw, I've never seen anyone go wrong with french toast. Yum. Tongue out

We always do breakfast, lunch, or dinner! It's normally about cards, photos, and laughter. We just share a good time together.  My mother: Is the mother of six and grandmother of six. I've done an assortment of things for mothers day over the years.

Her favorite was last year: A rock collection. Lol! Silly. I know. I'd bought her so many expensive gifts and that's the one she loved. I started collectioning rocks from everywhere. Telling friends, my hubby, ect. If you're going to be blah can you pick me up a couple pretty pebbles. Lol. ( Navy friends, ect. We're a navy military bunch so our friends all travel a lot. They're all from an assortment of places, ect. ) These were just rocks from different places visited by us, my hubby/friends visited/ect. Really pretty. They weren't expensive just a combination of rocks. You'd think I'd spent a thousand dollars on the gift. You know those waterfall  displays people buy? She put them in one of those in her bedroom. I gave her rocks and a very small flower pot painted by my daughter that said " God couldn't be everywhere at once so he made Grandmothers!" Filled with mums. It was the least expensive gifts I'd ever given her as an adult... But.. she LOVED them. Told everyone. Shows everyone, ect. My siblings made jokes:

My brother: " I bought her a 80 dollar robe.... and you give her a lil box of rocks... and she likes your gift best......Phft. Brb, mom. I gotta go down by the river.. I'll be back with a new gift! "

One of my sisters recently said: " Getting mom rocks this year? har har "

I don't think I can possibly top those rocks. ever.

Mother's day is so much fun! I love making my mom all sappy. :D

Last year I bought her a spider plant because the one she had had died (she had it for a looooooooong time too!). This year I'm gonna try to get an ornament or something similar with something nicely written on it. You don't need to spend alot (or anything actually) to show that you love her. :D

This year I've entered my mom and I in a Mother's Day 5K for us to walk together.  She's said for a while she always wanted to do one, but never has because she's not up to running one.  (I know I couldn't run that either!)  So this year we are going to do a 5K even if it's just walking.  Maybe later this year or next year we can work up to jogging it together and go from there.

Usually we do cards and breakfast though.

My mom LOVES summer cookouts on her patio.  We're pitching in for fun, inexpensive, plastic, reusuable picnic ware from wal-mart.  You know the bright, fun-colored stuff I'm talking about?  We're getting plates, cups, and some serving dishes as well as a new table cloth for the picnic table.

IS there a beauty or massage school near your home?  You could pay for an inexpensive massage, mani, or pedi at about half the price of a salon but it's equally thoughtful and your mom would probably love it.

Look online for a buy one get one free coupon (usual valpak.com has some) to movie theaters or restaurants in your area.  You could take her on a cheap mom/daughter date.  Most moms would be touched that you took the time to find a coupon so you could  give her a nicer gift.

Does she like plants?  Go to the local florist and instead of a bouquet, buy a nice ivy or other plant that she can grow year-round.  A small-ish plant and nice pot should only run you $15-20.

thanks for the replies guys :)

i made her a really cute card, and i'm gonna make her french toast (using one of cc's recipes haha, yumm).
